Do you fancy living in a small hamlet where “everybody knows everybody”? Do you want “to get away from it all”? Do you want “peace and quiet” instead of the surrounding hustle and bustle? Do you want to enjoy the sun for an average of 284 days per year? Do you want to be close to nature and lead an active lifestyle, without compromising your urban accessories? Do you want to achieve all of the above without missing on arts, culture, and history? If so, Tubac, Arizona is exactly for you.
The Tubac community consists only of 1,200 inhabitants. Technically, Tubac is a CDP (census-designated place) within Santa Cruise County, Arizona. It is located only 45 miles south of Tucson, Arizona following Exit 34 down the I-19. Following the I-19 further south, the Mexican border is only 25 miles away. Also, Tubac is 150 miles southeast from the largest city in Arizona - Phoenix. This should be useful in case the “peace and quiet” needs to be supplemented by some big city experiences or commodities.Tubac’s modern history starts back in 1752 when the Spanish colonial garrison was stationed here, and the town was the largest in the vicinity. Subsequently, it survived a mass influx of Arizona settlers, then through many Apache attacks, then through being a ghost town, then through a mining boom, then through being a ghost town again, eventually becoming today’s artist township. The metamorphosis of the town from a violent place to a place for art started back in the 1940s with the opening of Dale Nicole’s Artist School. Many of the school’s students subsequently chose to linger on in the town, drawing in more art lovers and practitioners. Today this small community has probably the most art galleries, studios and workshops per capita in the country. These are complemented all through the year by thematic art events like the Tubac Arts Festival, the Art Walk, the Anza Days, the Art Experience, the Fall Tubac Arts and Crafts Festival, and the Luminaries, when artists from around the country flock to this picturesque location to exhibit their achievements. This, of course, complements the surrounding magnificent scenery around the town. Then again, it may be precisely this scenery which draws the artist’s interest. Either way, Tubac is a lovely place to visit or reside. NewHomeSource can help you make Tubac your new home town and join the community which makes history and art meet.
