Hampton was named after Revolutionary War soldier, General Wade Hampton after the railroad was built in its area. Located at the southwestern section of Henry County, Georgia, Hampton is the only major city west of I-75 and is a great place to call home. Hampton City has several parks equipped with play areas, basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer, baseball, and softball fields. Batting cages and other facilities, are mostly handicapped-accessible. Parks that residents frequent include North Mt. Carmel Park, Hampton City Park, Liberty Square Park, Nash Farm Park and Lovejoy Regional Park.
Hampton also provides excellent schools. Parents may enroll their kids in public schools that operate under the supervision of Henry County School District or Clayton County School District. Public Schools include Dutchtown Elementary School, Rocky Creek Elementary School, Dutchtown Middle School and Dutchtown High School. Colleges and universities nearby are Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta Technical College, Clayton University, and Griffin Technical College.
