Welcome to the Andouille Capital of the World. Don't think we're exaggerating either-- La Place is as Cajun as any part of Louisiana, and you just can't find better spicy sausages anywhere. The Andouille Festival is the best time for visitors to sample the local specialty, but as a resident you'll have them year-round. Bailey's and Jacob's are two of the area's best butchers, and still make the sausage the old-fashioned way, from smoked ground pork shoulder and traditional Cajun spices.
Great food isn't the only thing happening in La Place. Since the bayous of Louisiana are some of the wildest places in America, the area is also known for its swamp tours. Go on a Cajun Pride Swamp Tour and snap pictures of true Louisiana locals--the alligators! Be careful, though, or they just might end up snapping up you. The 'gators aren't the only wildlife you can see on one of these tours. You may spot an elegant heron, dipping its beak into the waters to catch its dinner. Or you'll catch a glimpse of local fish, usually seen above water only for a split second before they dive back into the deep. Cajun Pride even lets visitors hold a baby alligator-- if you're brave enough! Watching from the sidelines may be entertainment enough.
There is no end to the opportunities you'll have to immerse yourself in the deep and mysterious beauty of Louisiana. Take the kids to Peninsula Park, and teach them to fish at the area's best fishing pier. The Parks and Recreation department has a number of organized youth and adult sports programs, to keep you and your family on the go when you're not busy exploring the area.
La Place is truly a fascinating town to live in, and to grow up in. Let New Home Source place you and your family in a beautiful new home in La Place.
