Willis is a city in the Montgomery County of Texas on the Missouri Pacific Railroad. The community came into existence when the Willis brothers donated their land for the Great Northern Railroad in 1870. The population of the town grew gradually once the railroad became operational.
The timber industry is a major player in the economic growth of Willis. After 1980, other sectors like manufacturing and retail services developed in addition to the mainstay of agriculture. The Interstate 45 passes through the city while two airports - the Montgomery County and the George Bush Intercontinental Airport are located 10 and 35 miles away respectively.
