Just under 30-miles southwest of Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the community of Mukwonago. The area was originally a Native American village, and the name is derived from "mequanego" which means "the bear's den". This fast growing community strives to balance a high quality of life with economic development and is already home to many commercial and industrial businesses.
Bordering Phantom Lake, Mukwonago is ideally situated for anyone who loves recreational boating and fishing, which is also enhanced by Mukwonago's closeness to Lake Michigan. Mukwonago Park is a sprawling 355-acre park that offers swimming facilities during the summer, sledding in the winter, and hiking year round. The area has some fantastic golf courses, from the nearby Morningstar Golfers Club and Edgewood Golf Course, to the local Lake Beulah Country Club and the Rainbow Springs Golf Club.
Local shopping can include everything from some vintage clothing finds at My Sister's Closet, to day-to-day essentials at Pick 'n Save, Walmart or Walgreens, all within the city limits. The Elegant Farmer is a wonderful deli and market selling a delightful assortment of food and produce. If you don't have time to visit their store, you can order online and have it delivered. The Southridge Mall is a scant 20-miles away and is Wisconsin's largest shopping center. Expect every brand from Express and H&M through to Macy's, jcpenney and Sears. The Brookfields Square Mall has a similar mix of tenants, but like Southridge, does not include a cinema theatre.
Theatre lovers who remember the Lunts will want to make an effort to explore Ten Chimneys, the historical home of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. Ten Chimneys is not just a museum, it also plays host to a variety of theatrical readings and exhibitions. The Alpine Valley Music Theatre is an incredible nearby open-air venue that regularly hosts some of the best rock bands, but you should also not forget to look at the Northern Lights Theatre in Milwaukee.
