It was not a good year in the USA to build a home

  • Grant H.

Many things were done brilliantly! Many things are the worst quality I have seen in over 45 years of building experience! Was it COVID? Lack of competent workers? Backlog resulting in "hurry-up" management and oversight? It was all of the above and more. I really don't fault an individual person or company. Our brand new home is one of the biggest disappointments in our life. It just lacks the expected quality and attention to detail. Every corner that could be cut was cut in most instances. Delivery of finished homes slipped in their scheduling and pressure came down from management ...

Beazer Homes - The process of buying was very pleasant and exciting.

The process of buying was very pleasant and exciting. The complacency and lack/slowness of action on significant warranty issues has greatly tempered that excitement. The building has been "completed for almost a year now, and still dealing with significant problems with security system, exterior lighting, and rain water leakage (leakage may have been fixed last week, waiting for next rain to confirm).

When we signed the contract, we were told we had to move quickly through design and then the new home kick-off. After our design appointment, it was almost one month before we had the initial home project kick-off. Project updates weren't as frequent as we expected. Our realtor had to reach out on a couple of occasions to get a status update. We found out there was an issue with our plot being filed incorrectly. Beazer was very apologetic and worked with us on how to correct this issue. We may have decided on another home if we knew that the walls are insulated for efficiency but not ...

Enjoy our Home, but Warranty Process not great.

Love my home, but it does feel like a constant battle with the Warranty process. After you submit and you have to constantly prove what's wrong for them to come back and just say no. Then when you get a no, they tell you how to fix it that costs the buyer extra money. I would look at how you can make the Warranty process simple especially when you are building homes around someone's finished home.

Beazer Homes responded:
We are happy to hear you love your home, Reginald. We are sorry for any frustration you feel with the warranty process and want to let you know we are always here to help. If you ever have questions about submitting a case or have questions about a current case, our New Home Contact Center is always happy to discuss these with you. Should have been told upfront that garages were too small to be able to fully open a car door once parked inside. No garage should be built that narrow.

I love our house now but the only reason that I would have rate it perfect or great is they should have been more open on "what the homeowners want" . I hate to hear from a builder "Oh sorry we can not do that!" . Some features was not offered to us, which I like to have and it was informed to us that we could, like "vaulted ceiling". Simple features they can't add like pot filler which I like to have and central vacuum. Placements of additional cable/power wires for your TV should have been on the deciion making before dry walling so you really know where to place it and not before ...

The initial buying process was great. The design center was great. However, when it came to the finishing touches on our home, many things were overlooked. My husband and I emailed about several issues we wanted fixed. Which they attempted to fix for us before closing and we were pleased with at the time. But, now after living here a month, realized some of their “fixes” were just bandaids. Paint is chipping off, low spots in the floors, and tile work that was hastily installed. Overall the home is still very pretty, we were just disappointed in the hasty work that was done in the last week ...

We have had many issues with communication betweent BEazer and myself or my husband. We have issues with our sod has been ruined by a trade partner, and we are waiting on someone to tell us when it will be fixed. We had multiple issues trying to prepare for closing, and our dates were moved, after being told they would not move and were set in stone. Additionally, we had an issue with our front door, that finally arrived. The painter for Beazer did a much less than stellar job on the door, and even got paint on the floor. The house is lovely, though I felt in the sales process they were not as transparent as they should have been. I had a few items I made clear were important to me and I was told they would be easily met only to find out it was known that wasn't possible or guaranteed. For the most part the sales process was seamless. After living in the house a while it feels a few things were rushed or shortcuts taken. Windows not quite at 90 degree angles that made blinds tricky. Baseboard separating from the wall and waiting still on someone to come fix it. Plumbing not put in right. They sod the front but ...

The house holds heat and air conditioning very well and seems to be well built, but the finish work is atrocious. From paint, base boards, shower install, door handles, and door hanging just to name a few, the finish work and craftsmanship is horrible. Not pleased at all with the final touches of my home.

I have heard great things about Beazer homes and am excited to be a part of the community now. I must say that I have not started off as I had expected. In the last three weeks I have had no heat- No hot water- I still have no heat down stairs. My toilet has already backed up twice. The door stop for the front door broke and I have a dent in my wall. When I am in my bathroom I can hear my neighbors talking, moving around. My husband and I recently purchased/ built our home with Beazer. We love our home but unfortunately it has not been the best experience. Our realtor was great and very helpful since day one. Our home was not ready when we closed and is still pending a few items after being here for almost two months. It's quite annoying still having blue tape on our cabinets. Our heat did not work, our dishwasher does not work and we did our final walk through the day of our closing since it was not complete the Monday prior.

The buying process was good. I felt the preferred lenders were a little aggressive. The builder listened to my comments and concerns through the building process. Although, sometimes I had to give reminders. The sales/building team had regular calls which was great since we were not nearby. My biggest issue has been the yard. The yard was put in early May. We closed at the end of May. It is now almost the end of July and the yard is still on a punch out list and not addressed. That has been very disappointing - as I like a good looking yard and they knew it was important to me. Now ...

Disappointing Craftsmanship; Great Sales Person

Our experience with working with the Sales Representative, Tom, was great. Tom was very thorough and supported us through the entire sales related process. However the build craftsmanship was mediocre at best. Too many issues to report them all. In summary, no attention to detail - appeared speed of completing (in some cases, not completing) task was the goal. And, the landscaping in terms of grading and sod was horrible. Sod laid on top of large rocks, plastic trash, even a broken pressure gage was the norm.

Beazer’s customer service was amazing until after we moved in. Once we closed in our home, no one cared to make sure things were satisfied to our liking. Too many “corners” were cut to save time & money. (For example: having to have our brand new home repainted, because upgraded paint is still flat builder-grade, spray paint.)
