Did a building your own kit instead of using a custom builder and we should have gone custom. We moved in June 10 after months of delays and no work being completed. Our punch list from our walk thru June 2 still isn’t done. Took our construction manager off our house and sent him to a neighborhood 3 weeks before we were supposed to move in. Communication as to delays was horrible. Communication as to completing this punch list has been nonexistent unless I reach out and follow up. We were constantly advised that issues would be taken care of, however, they were not. Too many issues for a home that you are paying a half million dollars for. Items that were supposed to be handled within two weeks of closing have still not been taken care of almost three months later. Just too many headaches and issues.

Everything was good until we closed. Once we closed, outstanding issues have been pushed to the back burner. We’ve had to repeated ask for follow up. We have major drainage issues in our yard which have yet to be resolved. Concrete subs were terrible. Porch step has yet to be redone and repoured because it was done incorrectly. All of the extenuating issues have outweigh the good at this point.

Several miscommunications on Drees’ end during building process that cost us a lot of time and money. Building experience almost entirely dependent on foreman assigned to job and their individual communication skills. Craftsmanship much lower than expected and several major issues with home at close. Once you close they ghost you and it’s extremely difficult to utilize your home warranty. Drees does not stand by their product.

We are so disappointed with the quality of our Drees “custom home.” The interior finishes are awful and we will be spending time and money trying to fix them. Trim throughout was so sloppily installed, it looks like a bad DIY…nearly every floor trim joint is a lumpy, caulked mess. The “professional” painters left paint splatters on the floor along the molding as well as many missed areas of paint, paint splatters on granite, paint on switch plates and outlet covers, paint on ceilings, and interior doors as well as paint embedded in the joints of several floor planks. If you want a home that is full of unskilled workmanship for a premium price, then by all means buy from them. If you want to spend the first several months angry over all the items that were not finished before you moved in that you can’t get an estimate on when or if they ever will be done then go ahead. Drees does not respect the customers time from scheduling meetings, contractors showing up without prior notification post-close, to lawn completion. We have been left with a dirt yard for going on 3 months after closing. For dog owners, this defeats the purpose of purchasing a home and has left us with an absolutely miserable experience. The home buying experience was overshadowed by the lack of adherence and unprofessionalism related to agreed upon purchase items to the house. Additionally, minor design flaws are not easily corrected through Drees (fixing myself). Ultimately, Drees came through in fulfilling their agreement for purchased items and corrected most but not all issues.

My overall experience with Drees is they do what they can with what they are given. Their biggest issue is lower management and their contractors. Management doesn’t hold the contractors accountable and the contractors do the bare minimum to get by. You as the homeowner have to micromanage the build from the start and make sure all the items you signed for are completed. It made the process incredibly stressful and not enjoyable. Hopefully the issue can be resolved and improved upon. Hopefully making future homeowners processes more enjoyable.

The warranty page is mostly exclusions and legalese , and it basically left to their discretion as to how to interpret the validity of your complaint. They have standard reasons why a defect/quality/workmanship is not covered , even if you know that was not the reason. They will quickly cover the small stuff..faucets , trim,lights, paint etc. But Structural cracks, leaks ,foundation etc..are bit more of a heartburn.They will cover leaks for a year, by getting the crack filled from inside ( 1/2 hr job ) and the repair contractor supposedly covers those specific repair locations for 10 ...

I honestly think that these homes were not built very well and cheap materials were used to erect them up so quickly. Walls are definitely not sound proof. I can hear noise on the 2nd floor from the basement.

A poor experience with semi-custom divison

Our review is for Drees on Your Lot, semi-custom homes. Regretfully we would not recommend them. Communication from our market manager and on-site contractor was vague at best. We were misinformed about a major structural change and ended up extremely dissatisfied with the configuration of our front stoop. We appealed to the company at different levels as we believe we were taken advantage of but they declined to remediate their mistake. Additionally, many of the interior finishes, namely carpentry, paint and carpet install were just plain poor workmanship.

Was told it would be 7-9 months. Took almost 15. Went through 3 builders and none of them ever said the same story as the last one. They liked to blame supply chain and the job market, but they spent a lot of time on rework. Dug the basement and foundation, saw that it had field tiles draining into it, and ignored it for a month while the sides collapsed. Had to excavate more and do a lot of extra backfill because of that. Most of the time we were waiting on something it was because they messed up. We love the neighborhood but the quality of work for the price we paid is very disappointing! Even after coming back several times to fix items, we are still waiting for them to come again. Everything is way overpriced. I needed to match towel bar and called their distributor and she quoted me $60 for one towel bar. Lowe's has same bar for $22. Our builder Brock was the only positive in the whole experience. He is such a genuine person who did all he could to make our experience a good one. Unfortunately, he wasn't the one doing the work.
