I expected more

My house is valued at $305,000. While that's not on the more expensive end of the spectrum of what homes can cost, it is still hundreds of thousands of dollars. I expected better quality workmanship in this home. The paint, the cocking, the cleaning, the baseboards, etc. are all consistent with what you would expect from a rented apartment. In fact, they remind me a lot of the apartments I lived in during my college days. For a house that I paid hundreds of THOUSANDS of dollars for, I expected better quality workmanship.

I love the house, but I hate living on a street with active crews. Not just American Legend, but Highland crews too. They are messy, noisy and inconsiderate.

We got an excellent price on our home, and the materials are what we would expect. However, the workmanship was below standard. We submitted a list of warrantly issues and none of them have been addressed.

We love our home! We wish our construction manager had been better, though!

We love our Highland Home! Everyone was wonderful in the process - we even did financing with them. Everyone was incredible... until we got to inspection time with our construction manager. He was remarkably unprofessional and dismissive. We still have items he promised to fix that are incomplete a month later. And we aren’t picky! His responses to us included “it’s just a spec home”, “I have a bajillion thing going on, so turn it in to warranties”, etc. We don’t even know what to do. (Note: we aren’t alone in our disappointment and frustration with Matthew).

Love my new home but there should be more attention to the little details that stand out once you move in. Maybe not so rushed to make sure everything is correct. Overall I would rate a 4 out of 5 stars. There’s always room for improvement!

I purchased a home at Waterscape in Royse City. The masonry work and painters’ workmanship is very poor. Baseboards are as crooked as a politician. I do not know how Highland is regarded as being “the best”. However, I will say most of everything has been fixed so far, but why not do it correctly the first time, or at least have it corrected prior to closing. The sales portion of the build was the easiest. The staff at Highland go out of their way to help you with whatever you need. Overall, it was a positive experience.

The whole buying process was great, the construction manager, the sale counselor was great to accommodate us since this is our first time purchasing a home, let alone a new construction home. I think the workmanship is lacking up to Highland Standards.

Still waiting on items to be corrected, very easy and simple ones like a microwave handle that's damaged from before we moved in 28 Nov 18 and has been on order from about 5 Dec 18. Other items are being fixed on time though.

We really liked HH (HighlandHomes) interior design and exterior design, which led us purchase the new-construction home. Sales experience was smooth and initial interaction (prior closing) with builder was nice as well. After moving into home, we opened more than expected warranty issues in first 2 months. We feel that HH is very strong in sales, interior/exterior design, overall home building standards, however we found that workers (i.e. contracting agencies doing actual work for HH) are rushing up and producing just okay. Electric/Lighting warranty issues are repeating several times. We ...

The quality is sub par. Gaps in cabinets. Unfinished paint. Poor finish work. Don’t even get me started on the concrete. We have had the driveway the front steps re-poured and they can’t get it right. Flaking concrete, permanent foot steps, discoloration, etc.. It’s been amateur hour here. I’m not a contractor and I’m pretty sure I could do a better job at this point. No attention to detail.

I signed the home purchase contract on February 11, 2024 and closed on October 10, 2024. I hired an inspector before my final walkthrough. Unfortunately, the gas pipe to the heater was not even connected for testing on October 1. Having great respect for Highland Homes as a Trusted builder, we took their promise that the heater would working and it shouldn’t be a concern. We are very disappointed when I had to suffer 2 days without the working heater for my new home when the temperatures plunged to 19 degrees outside. The house inside temperature dropped to 49 degrees in the morning and ...

We were sold the idea we were buying a high end or quality build. However, the home has been problem after problem so far and the builder in our opinion cut many corners during the build process . There seems to be little to no focus on build quality or craftsmanship.

The quality of highland home was not good. The lumber material is very cheap compare to low quality builders. The communication towards customer is not good.Sales representative Amy is good at Parkside on the river. But don’t recommend the highland since the quality of wood for framing is not good and also restroom doors.Highland lost its quality. There is one more firm highland homes loans which is company owned lender, One of the worst company to take mortgage loan.I don’t recommend to go with hh loans.

I love the location and do like my home but there were a lot of things left undone after close that took 3 months to correct. Prompt communication is not their forte. I am hoping a year or two from now I can look back and say I got a good quality home. It’s too early to tell.

Kathi - the selling agent and her team - was incredible! She went above and beyond to help everything go smoothly! Ryan the builder, was great up front, but there are things that still need to be done to the home that were on the closing list from June. The response to complete that list has been a little lacking.

Too many workmanship issues for new construction

Lots of workmanship issues found at the home. We bought online so we didn't have a chance to see the house before moving in. Had to escalate issues to senior leadership in order to get things moving. One contractor came do an incorrect job and I am still waiting to hear back and get a date to get a replacement cabinet door. Too many defects for new construction. Not willing to recommend Highland.

The buying experience was terrific. Anytime we had an issue, we got an immediate response and a solution to the problem, but after closing, things could not be more different. We have been waiting months to get things fixed, and nothing has been done. Keep sending emails, and Highland says o we have sent that over to the warranty team with no response or timeline as to when things will be fixed. On the other hand, highland home loans have been outstanding both before and after closing, answering any questions and not forgetting about me after closing.

Our house has cracks on walls and garage and they continue to extend. We did call it out prior to closing and some of them were addressed. Probably put paint over the cracks. Kitchen cabinets were painted poorly. I requested a few to be redone prior to closing. It was somewhat fixed but overrall cabinets quality especially in the kitchen l would rate 1 star .Concrete in the garage lots of cracks and we were told thats normal unless l can put a coin in the cracks, thats when its considered to be addressed Service and responsiveness was great but the quality not so good

Sales co-ordination was great. Construction timelines and updated were perfect to begin with. Halfway thru, I had to check on the progress almost every week and point out issues. Final walk was rushed enough, hours before closing and with pending works. We moved into our house end of June 2022 and still dealing with issues, which should have never occurred or should have been fixed by construction manager well before closing. After moving in, I got to know almost half the workmen team to fix issues. To name a few - cabinets, counter tops, doors/trims, sheetrock, vent team, electrical, ...
