The lack of care taken in the build was disappointing compared to the talk up of how great the quality was. The young lady selling the house was very helpful and worked with me and my relator on getting the perfect lot. after that was accomplished I could rarely get in touch with her and she was short and would only communicate with email. I ended up dealing with here associate more and he was extremely helpful and pleasant. after paying for my home I received my keys from the design assistant she was very pleasant and helpful. I have never heard from the young lady that sold me the house? The contract was pleasant to work with. I don't feel he gave me enough information in the design meeting. It has been the first time I have built a house and was unaware of what was considered extras. I have submitted a work order and waiting response week out. I am enjoying my home and I like it. a few thing I would have done differently. I have been a bit disappointed for the value. I received a house that was not cleaned very well my master bath floor has a tremendous paint overspray on it. That is my feelings ... More

We still have outstanding items that need to be fixed. The laminate floor People blamed the floor issues on the carpet people and dull have not fixed my floor. A big hole was in the soffit. They came by and replaced the wood without painting it. Water was dripping through our room AC vent during the Freeze. Technician found no issues. Sprinkler system hasn’t worked since Freeze. Cabinet work had not been completed. Etcetera!!!

Our home is beautiful, but over priced for what you get. Highland still has not completed their final punch list of items that were to be completed prior to move in. We did not want to push our closing date as we had nowhere to go, so we went ahead and moved in. Now we have a list of unfinished items, which they promised they would come finish shortly after we moved in, but haven’t. We have reached out to the builder multiple times, no return calls, no return emails, one time he put a meeting on the calendar and we took off of work for him to no show. It’s funny how once they get their money, it’s no longer their problem anymore. Don’t get me wrong we like our home, but be prepared to chase your builder down if you want them to complete anything they “promised”. ... More

Sales process was professional. Massive problems with issues reported before closing - still not taking care off. Too many times we had invest our time for issues and no results. Simple things (i.e. shoe mold in kitchen) is still not taken care off. No communication from Building Manager. Very frustrating. More and more smaller problems occur and NO action after reporting.

The problem still going on after we have been in the house for over 2 months.

Actually disappointed with the new build construction and lack of responsiveness with our Highland home. (Quite inferior to our previous Builder home/experience). No doubt that the bones of the house are quality; however, overshadowed by the subpar craftsmanship of the internal and external finish out. Several major issues pointed out to the construction manager during the building process along with many cosmetic issues prior to closing. Unable to use our master shower upon move in and zero faith that any of our issues will now be address since the money has now been funded to Highland. Just to list a few: chunks of concrete missing on sidewalks and patio, grout lines of disarray and missing completely in some places, 2 doors damaged, backsplash tile uneven, broken marble in the master bath, drywall cracks and visible seams, and paint on tile, wooden floors and on trim. Maybe expectations were too high. But for the amount of money spent on this house, I would have expected a MUCH higher level of craftsmanship in details. Base materials that the builder uses are lower quality (cheap doors, basic light fixtures, flimsy wood flooring, counter materials in kitchen and bathroom, little toilets, light switch locations, etc.). Maybe the "area" commanded such a price, but the end product was mildly disappointing. By the end, it was too late to correct it all. The construction manager was responsive during final walk through but not entirely reactive to make corrections. There was only so much anyone could do at that point without making the product worse. By the end you are committed, your heart is set on the location, and your mind is excited for a new home. Turning back is nearly impossible. Short of a daily inspection of contractors, how can one possibly keep up with and correct issues in real time. Everyday I find things in the house that are disappointing. This is our second Highland Homes new build (the first was in 2012 in The Tribute.) The experience this time around was not at all the same. Overall, we like our house but only because we had to nitpick and complain about things from the day the foundation was poured. Nearly every surface in our house had an issue that we had to manage the builder on. We did have some resolution on certain issues, but overall, the quality of this build and the experience was not what we envisioned. We will probably build another house again in the next few years and will most likely not consider Highland. Also, we are very disappointed that even after our negative survey we filled out at closing to discuss these issues (closing date was October 4) not one person from the Highland Homes corporate sales office has reached out to us for feedback. As a Vetran I feel I was robbed of my Earnest Money for chosen another Highland home in the same Neighborhood.I lost 12,500 which as a Vetran it does not come by easy.If Highland Homes treat Vetrans this bad everytime they will not get too many stars.

This builder has so much potential because there is a good product that could come if the building team took our home seriously in their work. The building team did not walk us through home building as it should have been done so many things were missed and even done incorrectly due to lack of proper oversight. I often voiced concern that I need more information prior to having meetings to decide on things but would not get the information I need prior to or even in the meeting. The building team should have walked us line by line what each category is and meant and not brushed over anything or asked in a general section do you see anything here you want. We are not building professionals. After move in our concerns were brushed off time and time again until I had to provide proof of other homes that I would go visit during their construction that had items we were told were correct (but weren’t) or couldn’t be done (but we’re done elsewhere). Our floor plan is so beautiful but the lack of care has caused this to be very stressful once we were in the home and finding out things and not getting the help we need. ... More

The materials are cheap. Replaced light fixtures in bedroom with ceiling fans and the fixtures were plastic and could not be more than $10. This is throughout the house - I could go on. The warranty department is non responsive. Still waiting for a response and have left serveral messages. The air conditioner is not working properly and will be the 3rd call directly to the company they picked.

A lot of back and forth with the agent and still need some help with a replacement blind and replacement chandelier

There’s too much to negative items to list on this second Highland home purchase. I’d like to highlight that there are still items that are not repaired or replaced. Craftsmanship and quality control lack in this caliber of home. Professionalism lacks from the sales agent of which we never met or greeted by. Again, this is our experience with Highland homes.

My experience has been horrible with this builder. Building supervisor never provided prompt updates. I have to call them every day even after 3 months of closing as they still haven’t fixed all issues from closing. Even with so many follow ups, issues are still open.

Overall experience is below average. I believe I have overpaid and the basic items are cheaply made.

The salesman was great . But I’m disappointed in the price of the house and the material that was used for the price of the home i feel Rob because everything in the home is cheap from the mds molding that looks like he goes in a cheap apartment not a 900k home

Promises promises promises and then there is reality They push to close so they dont have the inventory on their books and 2 months later we still hear excuses Horrible follow up

Our experience would have been wonderful if hadn’t been for our project leader - he was full of empty promises and we sit here today 3-4 months post close with items still needing to be fixed. We got so frustrated we stopped reporting and started doing these items ourselves. The workmanship is very frustrating in our new home when you pay $700k plus and get better workmanship from the Highland 45 we purchased previously from Highland in the same neighborhood. Your project lead blew this one!

Highland homes has always been known for exceptional customer service. However, post pandemic I do feel that the bottom line, making money, has now trumped what highland homes has stood for for so long. The experience of buying a home with highland was supposed to be an amazing experience, so I thought. Little did I know that we would experience such horrible things in route to closing and honestly after closing. Highland waited until 2 days before our closing date in December to push our close date out 2 weeks. There was zero transparency in the decision making process on when or why our close would be pushed. What was more horrible about the situation was that my family and I had moved half way across the country and would now be stuck in a hotel. Once our close was push and I was physical close enough to check on the house, there was literally no work done on the home for the first 2 weeks that the home was pushed out, thus forcing another closing push by highland homes. To make matters worse, my home family contracted Covid while staying in the hotel and no place to separate or quarantine. Highland homes offered no compensation at that time for any of our hotel stay. Finally after 3 and half weeks in a hotel we finally closed in mid to late January. However, there were and still are so many poorly crafted aspects of the home that need to be fixed. All in all these are my thoughts: I feel like highland home was ok with allowing customers to spend top dollar on their homes but were not concerned at all with the customer experience during the process. That is a direct contradiction of what highland homes’ values have always been. I also felt that highland homes struggled with having labor to actually build our home. If there was a lack of labor, customers deserve to know that so that way they can have realistic expectations. Also, the labor that they did have to build our homes was poor as so many things that they installed had to be fixed and still need to be fixed post close. My wife and I never heard from any of the project managers involved in building our home, given the fact that there were so many project delays. If your bottom line is customer service, then you start with transparency and communication. Communication is a foundational pillar of any relationship of any kind and if you don’t have that then the relationship suffers tremendously. We are two years removed from Covid and materiel availability has remained an issue. Staying ahead of the supply chain and offering customers knowledge of who the vendors are and any vendor issues in real time would also help customers have realistic expectations. Highland should know that you can’t just hide behind your product and your words. It has to be your actions. Given the last year of building our home with highland and all that we have experienced, highland homes a great deal of work to do to restore the faith that we initially had in them being one of the nations best builders. ... There were promises made and not kept. The work to complete the home continued after we moved in. We’ve had several warranty items that needs addressing, one item we’ve had a visit 3 separate times. Bath is still not complete nor have we had a final cleanup. I will take responsibility for signing off on completed items but I was relying on trust and word being kept.

Level of work poorly done. Contractor would reply in timely manner when contacted. Sales person and contractor both lied that the home will not have a driveway with an incline. Being disabled makes it difficult to climb on slope from sidewalk to the home. I am very unhappy with the work done and selling as soon as I have some equity accrued.

Easy to work with during building process

This is the first new home we have bought and am happy to have done this but there are many things that I wish I knew. First off, if you are buying a semi custom home from Highland do not expect custom quality. It was clearly explained to me by my construction manager (Don) that these are production homes and not to expect the same quality as a fully custom home. This really irritated me and showed the lack of pride of the employee and their management have in their workmanship. It seems like the sub contractors are lowest bid contractors and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Every single home on our street has issues and while Highland is getting to fix things, it is not quick, and done at the convenience of Highland, I fixed many things that needed to be done but waiting on Highland would have meant we would still be waiting. This is really a shame because from looking into Highland, they have a great reputation and I was expecting a better experience. Don’t get me wrong, we love our home, but all the little things sure do add up and have soured me. I think they can provide a good home, just be prepared to really look at everything when you move in to make sure any issues are written down and fixed before you sign off. ... More

The sales component was very friendly and helpful. The quality after has left much to be desired. Needed assistance has been difficult to obtain. Things stated as taken care of were not, quality of repairs provided have been substandard and support as well. The list is to long to discuss here.

This was our second Highland Home. Planning on it being our last, the initial experience was good, but went down hill with a temporary showroom and lack luster selection. Then our Construction Manager was out sick from just after foundation pour till a month before closing. Never the less they kept building, we would walk through on weekends and notice that there was work going on but under no real supervision. Needless to say there were issues but luckily I contracted a home inspector. We wish people were honest and trustworthy but at the end of the day I don’t know what I’m looking at and it’s a lot of money we are paying for to have second rate contractors while being charged at a level of licensed contractors. As we got closer to closing we come and find out that we requested matching hutch and they didn’t submit the request in time so we didn’t get what we originally agreed to and are stuck with someone else’s mistake of being overwhelmed with paperwork and fill other people jobs. Currently going through the house getting ready to submit repairs orders just having to deal with this can be overwhelming.
