Overall I am happy with my Highland Home. However, the whole process of building the home was disappointing and unorganized. There were several things in the house that were installed wrong and took a lot of effort and time to get fixed. I realized this was an imperfect process but the amount of issues that arose throughout the build (which usually were caught by my dad who is an architect and not the contractor) made me feel like I was getting taken advantage of. As this is my first home, I was extremely excited to get my keys and officially be a homeowner! However, when I moved into my home, someone had locked my thermostat at 80 which was not fun moving in the middle of July in Texas. Since my contractor was out of the office, my thermostat remained locked for days. Again, I was left feeling under valued. I will say, Tracy, from the sales office completely made my experience. She made my first home buying experience special and made me feel valued for my business. She was actually the one who came to the rescue when my thermostat was locked. She went above and beyond and was taking on roles that were not hers...she is fantastic! ... More

Builder was easy to work with and you were allowed to make changes (to add or delete) to the existing floor plan within reason.

Great quality build

The workmanship is absolutely terrible. The subcontractors that actually build this houses don't care about what they are doing. There is trash everywhere. Beer bottles galore. One trade builds something and the next trade breaks or damages it. It's your average built house. They could do better.

We were nervous about the process of building a house having always bought prebuilt homes before. Highland Homes was easy to work with and made it a good experience. I've also noticed that they are more responsive to issues that arise than other builders in my neighborhood comparing experiences in my neighborhood's online community group. So bravo Highland and I recommend them highly!

During my walk through, I had addressed a few issues as well as poor paint job. The subcontractors removed the tape and did not address most of the issues. Now due to COVID I can’t get the subcontractors to come back and address the issues that should’ve been taken care of before closing.

Highland seems to be resting on a reputation they should no longer have. They were perfectly nice & accommodating when it came to selecting our house and the optional finishes that would drive the price of the home up. When it came to the execution of actually building the home, that is where they did not hold up their end of the deal. Countless issues of just poor and sloppy work occurred leading up to the close of the house. When a home inspector challenged their work, they proceeded to discredit the inspector, rather than fix issues. The only time I saw them work hard on our house was to get us to close on the agreed upon date when the house was clearly in no shape to be moved into. During our final walkthrough, there was still no grass, no A/C, and a 20+ foot hole in the front yard due to some plumbing issues when we were told it would be move in ready. Between the mistruths of the status of the house, their reactions to fix their issues, the lack of quality and attentiveness of the vendors they use, and the fact that at the time of this review, there are items that are still not fixed that contractually they are supposed to have been done over two months ago, I would think long and hard about selecting Highland Homes to build your house. ... I’ve been dealing with Loud clacking noises over the stove top since I’ve been here. My front porch has large gaps between the bricks I can trip and fall or my visitors. I have asked to this to be fixed. Very disappointed in the quality of the home.

From the start day to closing day, Hector and Layne always made sure we were taken care of and we had a great experience!

Builder foreman was thorough and responsive, and caring. Efficient and effective; love the floor plan.

We moved into t two story Richmond plan. It is an extremely beautiful home and we love our house!! Our Sales rep is the BEST!!! We close in July and realized quickly that there were some issues with our HVAC system. Our builder was very quick to respond to the issues and has been working closely with us to ensure it gets resolved. The people/ companies that Highland contract with obviously struggle in their profession because 5 trips later, our HVAC is still not fixed. I don't blame Highland, but the definitely need to take ownership and look for a more reliable HVAC company.

We have had many many problems with our new home, which include Quality control with workmanship and several warranty issues, including the AC. Our AC shut down after only 6 weeks and the company we are required to use made it extremely difficult to schedule service. They also will not allow us to lower our thermostat below 72, which we were never told would be an issue when purchasing the house. Upstairs rooms don't cool properly because of mistakes made during installation and the AC company refused to come out to fix for a whole month because it wasn't an emergency. We have a roach issue in the house, despite paying our own pest control to come out 3 times in 8 weeks. We have never had this issue in the past. These are baby roaches also, which does not result from construction in the surrounding areas. This means there is an issue in the home. We were mislead upon expressing interest in the home and told that the lot size was 2000 sq ft larger than it actually is. We expressed that this was important to us and were still mislead with an inflated size estimate twice. Granite in the kitchen is chipped but chip was concealed with amber colored resin. Our backyard floods with water whenever it rains for a few minutes, which worries me when it comes to future heavy rainfall. The construction manager John has been extremely nice and helpful where he can be but I know he can only help so much. I feel the house we moved into was not the luxury home that was advertised to us and its very disappointing. ... More

Highland homes was the easiest home purchase we have ever made. Incredible Sales Team and Chase the Builder, FANTASTIC!

Overall, my experience was good. I decided to use an outside vendor for one of my walls to add collapsible doors and I wasn't able to install the doors before I closed, which would have been helpful for me as I had to pay to demo a brick wall which was 3-4K.

Good area and neighborhood

Admittedly, I found my home when it was mostly built. But Highland Homes (and Highland Home Loans) were extremely easy to work with. They answered all my questions, and produced a high quality home that I will be proud of for years to come.

A great company to build a home with. Sales and warranty manager is great.

The Sales Person was a 9/10 from first impression to follow through on the zillion change orders we had was impressive. Consistent and Clear communication as well. Very pleased with our experience from that department. Construction Mgr was very friendly, accommodating on different fronts and solid communicator. Frustrations: Construction Mgr was changed after the first Pre-Con Meeting thus creating a lag in construction time for start. This put the project back 4-6 weeks which was trying for the Construction Team and stressful for us. We felt our Mgr had too many projects going at once and many things were missed, not supervised, and incomplete thus requiring numerous meetings and 're-dos'. I feel the quality of the home would be more than we received if Mgr had more time to walk our home more consistently and do QA inspections on his Teams. although we had struggles at times, I enjoyed the working relationship with the MGR and feel the MGR's priorities to make us happy are appropriate.
