I felt the response time in addressing some issues were very slow and some of the workmanship left a lot to be desired installing damaged goods are just not acceptable

We have previously built a new home with Highland some 13 years ago, and our past great experience was not matched this time. Not even close. They were resistant to even minor changes in the house plan, and one employee noted the business model had changed 4 or 5 years ago. Frankly, the house was just not ready for move in, and the punch list grew longer every day. There have been electrical issues, plumbing issues, landscape issues, and more . 8 weeks later we still have items not completed though staff says they are working at it. Would not do this again.

I moved in October of 2021 it’s now end of January 2022 and my issues are still not being addressed.

The quality of the materials and workmanship in Highland homes is not what you would expect for houses of this price range, the wood they used in our house during pandemic supply chain issues was substandard, base boards and all interior trim were installed as fast as possible leaving behind A LOT of small little cosmetic issues, if there is a spot where is hard to see around the trim, chances are there is no paint on it. If we try to remove a small stain from a wall using a damp cloth, the paint dissolves and the paper that wraps the drywall gets exposed immediately, several crooked electrical outlets around the house and a long list of small issues. They claim to cover all under their warranty, but they of course don't come to install higher quality materials you claim warranty fixes, they just come to fix things using the same original materials and they will give you 4-5 hours windows that you have to stay home from Monday to Friday for every single detail you need to get fixed. They offer competitive prices for the BASE model of the houses, but things that you would expect to be standard are not, everything is an upgrade and once you are done "upgrading" your house you are at least 50K - 60K above the "base price". ... This is our third new home buying experience and overall it was not a great one. We had a closing date that was moved, we a an fairly significant closing addendum for items that were still not finished at the time of our new closing date. We are still working on getting a few of those items done almost two months after close. The home itself is beautiful, but there is some question about the quality of the build and what we cannot see or what may come up in the future.

Home buyers need to follow up closely during the process or get a third party inspector because a lot of mistakes happen.

Meets code, but certainly doesn't exceed. Low quality fixtures and paint. Very nice friendly folks

Quality promised was not present after closing. I am not happy & I should be.

We purchased a Highland home in April of this year and have had multiple issues. One of the main issues was our granite kitchen countertop had a crack that ran from one side to the other and our previous construction mgr didn't want to replace it and kept telling us it was a natural fissure which it was not. We had to go to his boss to get this resolved and it took several weeks but they finally replaced it 2 weeks after we moved in. We did our 10 day walk through before our closing day and marked multiple issues that needed to be fixed. Several of these issues were not addressed and we had to deal with them AFTER we moved in. Our home was 90% complete that day we moved in and had to have multiple people come over weeks after to fix all of the unfinished/improperly done items. The people that we dealt with @ Highland are hard to get a hold of and not very responsive or communicative. The sales person disappeared as soon as everything was signed on the dotted line and money was funded. He knew how many issues we were having and has not once called or checked in to see how our experience has been. I have reached out several times, no response. Pretty much after 4/5 pm, you can't get a hold of anyone and they won't even text you back. We had to constantly reach out to them to get any response and to get anything done. It has been 7 weeks since we moved in and the last item is finally getting resolved on our home. We looked at multiple home builders and we went with Highland based on their reputation and reviews. This has not been a great experience for us as first time home buyers. They build a nice home and it is laid out really well but all of the issues we have had along with the communication issues has really darkened our experience with Highland Homes. ... More

Would hesitate to recommend this builder

My home buying experience with Highland is a mixed review. From a floor plan/neighborhood perspective they have very nice floor plan options that are in very nice areas. My sales manager, Sarah T., was fantastic! She was very honest about answering questions and extremely responsive. She walked through each phase step by step. Without a doubt she was what sold me on building with highland and making my experience pleasant. I also appreciated my lending team and my design center consultant. When it came to the project mgmt/construction side - things unfortunately were not as smooth. I assume things in Covid added a layer of complexity in terms of materials and timing, but that should not have an impact on the quality and finishes on the home. When it came time for final walk throughs and closing my home was "finished" with lots of missed items which proved a lack of quality assurance (cracked windows, screws missing from glass door, damaged tile, bathroom drains filled with corrosion, messy cocking, VERY THIN flat standard paint which comes off EXTREMELY easy, etc.). Also there were A LOT of construction remnants left for me to clean and fix in a brand-new house which I feel is unacceptable (I.e. paint spots on floors, pencil markings on the tiles, base boards not flush to the end of the wall, windows not clean, dust on counters, paint/cocking all over most light switches door knobs, and more). My project mgr was responsive but I feel it was hard for my points to be fully understood and made priority. Highland makes a beautiful - I have toured several model and completed inventory homes to confidently say this. What I would say for new buyers is stay on the project mgmt side and ensure they are doing what they should be in terns of finishes. I’ve been dealing with Loud clacking noises over the stove top since I’ve been here. My front porch has large gaps between the bricks I can trip and fall or my visitors. I have asked to this to be fixed. Very disappointed in the quality of the home.

Well if you show a model home and say you would give a customer the same exact without only one item the customer needs to hold your word for it. If the customer is paying for a premium product its not right to short change them. The fence color did not match and we were told they will fix the issue which ended up not getting fixed to date. The outside up-lights went missing and that is one of the signature aspect that made me go for the model that i bought. All similar models next to me have the and apparently when i asked i was told it was am upgrade which is not what i was told at the time i did my purchase agreement. House was supposed to be cleaned and garage pressure washed prior to our arrival that never happened. ... More

We closed on February 19th and STILL have issues waiting to be corrected. At first we were told materials had to be ordered and they were delayed. Now we are told no one will come out with the COVID scare. Not overly confident that my issues are going to be taken care of ever at this point.

When punching out your house before move in make sure to take pictures of each item and put it in a spread sheet to ensure each item is taken care of

There was lack of supervision during the entire build process. Corrective action were poor. We were pushed to close even without things being completed. I have broke water lines in the sprinkler system. I had expressed concern about leaks in the sprinkler system before close and I was told they were fixed. First water bill was extremely high and I am still waiting for the lines to be fixed and outcome of the water bill reimbursement.

Highland does not adhere to its quality promise in Painted Tree. The construction manager who originally worked on the house left and the new one shrugged when pointed with the issues. Everything was rushed a lot including the home orientation. Just after closing the home we started identifying issues with flooring, issues with water leakage in washer/dryer unit which damaged kitchen flooring. Lawn is not setup correctly with water not draining. Even though the customer service is good and responsive, we did not expect the issues we faced in a new construction home. The quality of products and material used in a 735K home is poor. The floor is painful to walk on due to no padding under wood and low grade padding under carpet. Wall finish is matte. Shower marble tile was not even attempted to look cohesive.

I bought the model home that was 6 years old. I was told that I had a warranty. NEVER NEVER did they tell me differently. I have an issue with the refrigerator that came with the house. I asked about putting in a warranty and was told then that there was NO ONE YEAR warranty on the home. I was told that they GAVE me money back to buy a 3rd party home owners insurance. The paperwork I saw, after closing, seemed to say that highland homes was paying for the insurance. Been informed now that that's now how they understood it. Bottom line, it's a very nice home BUT Highland Homes was NOT open and honest with me about this. I trusted and believe them when they told me that I had a warranty. Not a good buying experience with Highland Homes. They were not forthcoming re lending and Sales Manager Margaret D. was never available and when she was she was not helpful. We made some bad decisions and are in a Highland Home which is a result of those decisions. The building contract managers were great and extremely helpful as was the assistant sales manager Kelly A. Otherwise extremely difficult experience.

I feel that the Highland promise did not live up to expectations. Cost was high, processed was rushed, too many errors and quality concerns. As one of the first to move in to this new development, extra consideration should have been taken to protect and assure a great experience. The people are very good people, but the overall corporate objective leaves a lot to be desired.

Great sales team, helped us through every phase. Not everything was finished at closing and construction supervisor promised everything would be done very soon. Over 2 months later we still have a lot to be done. Funny how once they have their money very little, other than empty promises, happens. I wonder when they’ll get around to fixing the details???

You don't feel like your living in s house of the price tag. Poor workmanship on multiple aspects, lacking higher end feel that the simple things out s house give you.

We love the layout and floor plan, however, that is the extent of our happiness. For the most part, every sales rep and/or project manager or superintendent was pleasant to work with, but the follow through was lacking. The quality of workmanship and materials was abysmal, not something worthy of aligning itself the reputation Highland Homes has come to have over the years. Simply put, anyone on the executive leadership team would be disappointed...except for maybe the person trying to cut costs or save a dollar, it shows with the contractors working in this subdivision. In some aspects, we are heavily using the 1 year warranty to get things right, in other aspects we are doing it ourselves because we take pride in our work and attention to detail is of the utmost importance.
