From start to finish, there was nothing that could go right for our build. From permitting issues for the the Sri way to having to redesign the driveway. Our 3rd party inspector found several issues with the proper installation of all the anchor bolts throughout the entire frame. All the bathroom cabinets and kitchen cabinets were heavily damaged BUT were still installed. Our building construction manager was informed about the cabinets but was told by the cabinet company they they would not be replaced only repaired. At this point I went to highland homes social media page and expressed my disappointment with the cabinets and the refusal to have them replaced. At the point I got a phone call from highlands regional manager who wanted to meet in person at the home to see the damages. He then expressed his apologies and said that was not to “Highland standard “ he made a call and the very next day all the cabinets were replaced with new undamaged cabinets. By this time we had Laos faith and trust in our building manager and his crews so we decided to show up unannounced to do walk throughs and this is when we found that all the paint and finish work was not up to “Highland standard “. The texture on the walls didn’t match and had to be done 3 time before it finally matched. Master bathroom tiles are loosing grout and the shoulder leaks. The bathroom window leaked for almost 2 weeks before it was resealed. We have grout in kitchen backsplash that is now cracking and separating. And now we noticed that anytime the furnace or ac is on, all the lights in the home flicker constantly.. so here goes another work order and letting more people into my home .. never ending bad dream.... ... since Highland is moving out of this community least care was taken to the customers. Construction manager feels customers are slaves for him. How many times we need to follow up to get the issues resolved. We bought a brand new home so that , there no issues and we are good at least for 2 years. Till date in last 45 days, i had issues with my Air conditioner and roof. I don't know what all are pending. Had faith in highland homes till i bought this home. But now its a question mark.

I was excited to move into my new Highland home, but I had some bad experience after I moved in. I had electrical issues the first week I moved in. My gas stove, most of my outlets and garbage disposal stop working. I also had plumbing issues. I took a bath in my stand alone bath and when I emptied the water out it all went into my shower pan almost causing a big flood of zooer water in my master bath. My toilet also got clog. The same occured my daughters bathroom. For two days I did not have access to both bathrooms. Thank goodness I have a third bathroom. I was disappointed that my first two weeks turned out this way in my new home. The builder over my home project has not been to great with my concerns. ... More

In less than a month after moving in some items failed working and even after reporting to the warranty manager no body came to fix it. Highlands needs to improve on how to handle their customers complains.

Going into buying a home, we were thrilled to choose Highland Homes. After the process we have gone through I would not recommend to anyone based on quality of workmanship and repetitive issues with work being incomplete or done poorly. Overall a very poor experience.

Closed on home with laundry list of items to be completed 60 plus days in home and still not completed nor a timeline to be completed.

Frustrating process with the building of our house.The lack of supervision during the construction stage generated unnecessary repairs and too many follow up actions after the closing.

We had to constantly point-out quality concerns and errors made by subcontractors during construction. Highland Homes agreed to fix everything, but we’re still waiting for some items that were on our closing affidavit to be completed from 2-months ago. This is our second home with Highland. I would not build another home with them.

First off, the sales Experience was TERRIBLE. I was all about what they couldn't do, and there was ZERO follow-through after close from my sales "professional". Secondly, Highland was NOT ready to close on this house when promised. There were so many issues at the time trying to close, many defects, cosmetic issues and functional problems. It took 17 months to complete the build (it was NOT delayed by supply chain), and we had to find other living arrangements during that time. Just simple things like cleaning the yard after close from construction debris was a chore and hard task for the builder after many complaint attempts. Painter's work was the worst I've seen in several houses. There was little follow-up on items that were mentioned, and several re-mentions and attempts had to be done to get things complete. The subs completing the house were clearly very underqualified to perform their tasks. It was really a sad experience all around. ... More

The craftsmanship and attention to detail is severely lacking, heavily impacting the final outcome. Just because a home is livable it doesn't mean the buyer should be forced to accept lippage in the tile, bulging walls, inconsistent masonry, and questionable framing, amongst other things, like we were.

While we are happy with our purchase, there were many issues that will prevent me from recommending Highland Homes. The experience I had heard about from various people that have built homes before, was not one that I can say I have had. My situation is unique in that we relocated from NJ and purchased not one but two homes with Highland. Responses I received from home office were unacceptable and that is when I actually got a response at all. I have some instances where I have not received so much as an acknowledgment on my concerns. I also do not like dealing with a company that finds it necessary to bad mouth competitors when Highland, from what I hear is a very well known and reputable company. I had a very bad experience with Highland Homes. I moved in to new built house and on day one, water leakage issues in two bathrooms and one bathroom is clogged with water. Drywall are very uneven. I trusted Highland Homes for Quality and didn't do any inspection before moving to the home, but later realized, it was a mistake. I started realizing the construction quality is really bad. I hope that will realize and do a self inspection before handing over the home to the buyer.

The house was not completed before closing and it was frustrated to ask them to come back the house for fixing stuff. My builder manager is bad at responding and following up with us about when stuff will be fixed or done. The dishwasher got fixed by them at least 3 time but still had not worked until we called the manufacturer people. The living room does not have the outlet behind the TV where we need the most, but the 4 bedrooms have it all The area in front of garage door is too dark and we dont have a light there. My friend’s house is exactly the same house plan with us but she has the light there without any asking or upgrading . Her builder did a lot of extra thing for her that he think they are necessary for the house. I think it is depend on who is your builder person that is responsible for the house. Overall I am not happy about the house and dont want to call them anymore so I just leave it like it is or fix it myself ... More

Not satisfied with the building process. Was always kept in the dark even with repeated requests. Identified issues before closing and was promised will be done in the next few weeks. It's has been almost 4 months, still long way to go.

Great sales consultant. Poor workmanship throughout the entire house from the carpet, to the cabinets, to the floor, to the shoe moldings, to the paint, to the plumbing, to the windows. All of these items had issues and has negatively impacted my home buying experience with highland homes. We chose Highland homes because of the high quality that was promised and expected. Unfortunately, we will not be recommending a highland home to family and friends.

We understood early issues with the supply chain, but two months after moving in and our home is still not complete. Despite the builders having our list from BEFORE closing, we are still fighting to get our home done. Every time we talk to someone about getting it done, we are told workers will be here on whatever day… so my wife stays home all day and no one shows up and our calls get ignored. Don’t close before every tiny thing is done. Or choose more responsive builders. They will promise you the world, but you shouldn’t believe it until you see it. When we went to the model home to see the assorted options for what was standard and what was an upgrade, we were told granite on the countertops and island was a standard feature. What we got was quarts. I did not like the quality of the building material, nor the workmanship. When inquiring about the quality of the material, we were told it was standard quality material. My thoughts are just because something is standard for the industry; it should not mean it is also the standards for Highland Homes. Prior to closing, our home was supposed to be cleaned; it was not. However, I must say every time we reached out to the builder/project manager he answered every call. Overall, I think the value for the price I paid versus the final product is overvalued. ... More

Had to battle to get boulders installed for over a month because the contractors were running over my yard weekly. Home pro installed the clare smart system that hasn't worked right in the 3 months I have lived here. They are currently scheduled to come out for the 3rd time. If they cant fix it this time I'm at the point of asking for it be removed and to be reimbursed. A lot of small things that if done right the first time I wouldn't of had to spend my time off/while working making calls, scheduling, or waiting around for contractors to no show to get this or that fixed. Our house has had a large amount of issues during the building stage. We’ve mentioned them and some we were told they’d get fixed but never did. Now I’m dealing with a vinyl floor that is completely coming off.

Highland designs a beautiful house, but they can't finish it with quality. No attention to detail, no pride in the finished product, and every time an issue was corrected, something else was damaged. Their painters should never be allowed to paint a Highland Home again. The employees are very nice, but their job is 10x's harder because of the subpar trades. Options are WAY over priced and they missed our estimated closing date by 3+ months. They can only blame COVID so many times before it just becomes poor planning and execution on their part.

What is my character limit here? Because I need a LOT of space to explain. The process started fine, with some adjustments for COVID. But even accounting for some delays, Highland construction was hideously mismanaged. - From August to October, virtually zero progress because the local construction manager was not scheduling inspections with the city of Kyle. 10 week delay. Lots of yelling and screaming when we found out, they reassign a new construction manager who assures us he is on it. Expected move in now pushed from November to February. - House was making some progress at least, inspections being scheduled. We pointed out several items that would need correction - assured by construction manager that they would be taken care of. - February passes, still slow progress, being told due to inspections but when pushed on it admitting that they were failing inspections. Escalated to Highland Regional Construction Manager to get control of the situation. - March and still no closing date scheduled. Several items we had been pointing out for months are still not corrected. Construction manager assures us he is "on it". - April, and FINALLY a closing date. Several items still outstanding. Main one of which is outlet and switch covers (48 in total) that were cut WAY too big (some over 1/2 in too big) during drywall phase. We ask to get them fixed. Contractors spackle and paint WITHOUT REMOVING THE COVERS, so covers are now covered in spackle and paint, texture is missing around them. We complain about this and some other items enough that the regional manager, area manager, and local construction manager all meet with us at the house a week before closing. We are ASSURED it will all be fixed before close. - Day before closing - multiple outlet and switch covers still not fixed, along with a number of other items. We escalate to delay closing. Are ASSURED it will be fixed by end of day. [Narrator: It was not fixed by the end of the day] - Closing day. We sign papers. We go to inspect our new house and get keys. EVERYTHING IS STILL NOT FIXED. We yell at the construction manager, we call the regional and area manager. We are ASSURED it will be fixed before we move in the next day. - Moving day. We arrive at the house at noon. There are drywall workers with 5 gallon buckets of spackle, spray guns, and spatulas working all around the house. Plastic sheeting is spread on most of the floors. WE HAVE 3 MOVING TRUCKS OF STUFF ARRIVING IN 20 MINUTES. On the phone with Regional Manager who says they'll get done and out as fast as they can, but we need to not put stuff around the walls because they need to come back and paint the next day. So basically, we can move our stuff in but can't really unpack. It took a WEEK to resolve to the point that we could actually put furniture where it belonged. - Post move in, it took 6 WEEKS just to clear the Closing punch list (stuff that should have been fixed before closing). Contractors showed up with limited to zero information on why they were there, and us having to explain every time what needed to be done (this should be Highland Homes job, right?). - Post closing, still finding items that were clearly not installed correctly that should have been identified by any competent construction manager. Entry way doors with zero weather stripping as an example. - In the end, we love our new home's floor plan, our lot, and our neighborhood. But never again will we put up with such a horribly mismanaged construction process. ... More

The workmanship of their contractors are some of the worst I've seen in central Texas. The construction manager tries to keep up but he was constantly missing details and big things in the house. The floor was an absolute disaster and doesn't look anything like the design center. They all point fingers at each other to excuse the poor workmanship and materials.

Terrible quality workmanship, would not recommend!

After hearing so many good things about Highland Homes, I decided to build my first home with them. I am honestly disappointed with the quality of workmanship. I would come by every week to see what had been done and the quality of work was very poor. When something new was done, something else was broken or damaged and had to get redone, which caused further delays in the process. I feel there’s no one watching out for the contractors to ensure work is being done properly; whatever gets the job done is done even if it looks bad. Even worse is that I had to bring the visible issues to the construction manager’s attention because it seems he didn’t care. I closed with some outstanding issues that were promised to be fixed after closing and I still have more than half of the issues pending. There is no urgency by anyone to get things done for the customers. They were quick to get me through the closing process to get my $$$, but the quality was definitely lacking and made it a not so good first time home building experience. Do not close on your home until it can pass the final walk through. No one wants to take responsibility for the many mistakes that were made. I was told the things that are wrong is how things have been done for the past 5 yrs. Very sloppy work. I will never buy a Highland Home again.
