Overall, the sales process, lender and closing services with the title company was very good. However, the operations, ( builder and warranty service) has been less than satisfactory. It took serval calls to get someone to respond to our requests for warranty service. Our original builder did a walk through the less then a week before closing and a final one a day before closing. There were still issues with our house the day before we closed. The were some things wrong with our home that that was very obvious and which should have been addressed, yet he chose not to. We have someone else assigned to us due to the fact that our original builder's unsatisfactory response for service and the fact that he waited until the day before closing to do a walkthrough with us. The fact that there were details that still needed to be addressed and/or corrected a day before is completely inexcusable. Local Highland Team are great. Local Subcontractors are Poor. Product and materials vary from good to poor. Processes need work.

Lot unfinished work need to be done. T Jet tub not working.

Highland Homes hurried to finish my house leaving several items unfinished or not working. The construction manager soon left the company leaving my house incomplete. The replacement construction manager did make sure unfinished and broken items were completed but it took significant time. The house is nice with some technology upgrades but some design aspects like garage size are problematic.

No attention to detail. A lot of small problems that could have been quick fixes were ignored. Took too much time replacing or repairing items.

Make sure one ask questions about how do you (owner) make decisions on what customers want when it comes to master bath having a towel and linen rack when second bath has one, providing more room for master toilet, internet service, cable or direct TV. Making decision as to being upfront on informing us customers on all things important to us. Showing customer prices of incentives and allowing customers to be able to order all necessary. Walls are too thin no privacy. Providing pest control so they don't move in to ants, spiders because it seems as though you don't care. Be more concerned in customers to get higher ratings. I was rushed to close as I was told the house would be ready when I moved in. Since I have moved in the issues I have pointed out have been slow to be addressed and I’m still dealing with a lot of the same issues. Once they are addressed they seem to be handled. Just shouldn’t be so hard to have things handled when I did my part.

My husband and I thought we did our due diligence in researching different builders. We chose highland homes because of their great reviews and the praise they received by close friends and family. Anytime I would tell someone which builder we were going with, the response would always be “I love highland homes”. Our builder was super nice and once the building process began, he was really great at sending weekly updates of what was going on and what they were working on. I’m not sure if it was because there were so many other homes going up at the same time as ours (our builder did state that there was 2 other homes closing on the same day as us) or what went wrong, but I definitely feel as though they hired cheap, third party contractors and other construction workers that they typically don’t use. Upon moving in, our cabinets weren’t closing properly, our house wasn’t properly cleaned (paint stains on bathroom floors), hallway lights weren’t working, under the master bath sink was dirty, chips/scratches in wood flooring, our outside brick paint (which we paid extra for) was thin and you could see the red brick coming through, our dining chandelier wasn’t centered, our master bath counters weren’t fully glued down, crooked baseboards, our ceiling Sheetrock is not flat/can see where the sheets intersect and the worst of all- a master shower leak which required 1.5 weeks of in depth fixing. Our builder was really great at coming in to fix things in a timely manner but overall, the work just seemed pretty sloppy and it was disappointing to move into your brand new home and pretty much live in a construction zone as workers came in and out fixing things that should’ve already been done to begin with. They'll overcharge you for upgrades. But realistically, adding ALL the upgrades only gets you to today's standard. Most of their basic fixtures and options are dated. Don't get me wrong, everyone is very nice, but these are cookie cutter homes with yesterday's design. It'll take a lot more investment to sell.

Home is average, had multiple issues upon moving in but the service and timeliness to tend to the issues were excellent. I must commend the sales/ construction management team on their service, but I would not buy nor recommend a Highland home to anyone.

Don't get me wrong, we like our new house. Our frustration was with the build process and post close process. It feels like quality control in the build process is non-existent. My advice? Be diligent in making sure everything is completed appropriately. Be demanding to ensure you are fully satisfied.

The houses are nice. However, we are still waiting on the builder for some warranty repairs to be done (they’re really busy).

Overall we were pleased with our home, but it wasn't without a lot of frustration. Our construction manger left the company after the slab was poured. We were assured the new construction manager would be just as receptive. I believe he was spread way too thin and possibly placed his trust into someone else. We did a number of changes from the standard build plans and the construction crew didn't follow the build plans at all. As someone who isn't in the business at all or is handy blue prints it was easy for me to see the glaring omissions and items that were not built to spec. Since a number of items had to be changed completely and re-done this caused a delay and moved out the closing date by about 3 weeks. We brought up these issues throughout the process and we were pretty much dismissed with "oh, you've never built a house before. This is pretty common". While it might be common in the housing the industry to ignore the blue prints and then have to add things that were missed (like a fireplace, for one) it's extremely stressful on the buyer side. Building & purchasing a house is extremely stressful and certain things are out of your control, like mother nature, but the overall experience wasn't pleasant. We love our home, but based on the overall process I don't think we'd go with Highland again. I'm sure on a spec home they are great, but the ball was dropped on numerous customization items. If we decide to build another home down the line we'll probably go with a builder that is more familiar with custom homes. ... More

Our home buying process was easy. No hiccups along the way and it was a pleasure working with Daniel, that part was a 5 out 5! However after we moved in we noticed a number of issues that weren’t done to our liking. We even noticed a few “blue tape” pieces still on the spots where we left them, signaling no one even saw it. We were told that we would notice things but I did not expect major appliances needing to be fixed or changed out. I gotta say based on our awesome building process and your reputation, I was expecting a little more out of the home itself.

We love our new Highland home. Kate in the office has been phenomenal from start to finish and continues to be great if we ever need her. I wish I could say the same for the builder. Emails were consistently ignored, communication on repairs were poor, and excuses were plenty. It wasn't until we complained that we started to get the service that we expected in the first place. The house had the normal things that needed to be repaired but nothing major. The one issue we have is the varying levels of the backyard. From this water collects on one side of our yard. The fill used for the dirt is poor so it stays muddy several days after it rains. When asked about this our builder said "well, it's up to code". It'll now be an added cost on use to fill the low spots. There are a few areas where it was clear the workers got lazy but overall we're happy with the house. Now if we can only get neighbors who don't leave dogs out all day to bark(obviously not on Highland but important to consider in the Morningstar neighborhood). ... More

Love the people at Highland Homes and their home designs. The home building industry has a shortage of qualified skilled labor so end product suffers. I have maybe two walls in the house that does not have a texture/paint flaws. I thought a half million dollar product would look better. I think all builders have the same problems though. Again the people at Highland Homes are OUTSTANDING!!!

Overall, we are happy with our home...but there are little things we think Highland could have done better at. Since moving in we've found things that either the construction manager or the subs should have caught before releasing the home. For instance - uneven grout, tiles with clearly visible chips, wobbly paint lines, inoperable or poorly installed data cables, and overall cleaning prior to release. I will say that when brought to the attention of the builder, they have been quick to remedy. Like I said, we are happy with the house but I doubt we will go with Highland if and when we need to move to a larger home. I believe that I got a great home, however there were many things that had to be done well after the move in. I believe it was rushed and therefore much was missed. The employees of highland however have been really great and truly want to help so that has made it easier to deal with things that were missed. Overall it is a great place to live and a great builder to purchase with. The biggest thing they need to work on is finishing everything to the customers expectations and get a new cleaning crew!!!! I had to pay over $400 after moving in just to get my house clean! Worst cleaning crew ever!!!! If they continue to use the ladies they are using now expect to have to clean your house multiple times over just to get it livable to expectations! Paint is still on my floors, caulk in the drains, grout in the drains, trash in the yard. Windows I’m still cleaning 2 months after the fact due to paint on them I can’t get off. I bought a Highland home because of their wonderful reputation however, I was disappointed in the quality of work and the oversight. While I love the home itself there were many issues during construction and after. The finishes of the house are poorly done and it feels like cheap labor was used just to complete the job. I thought Highland was known for great customer service however, was disappointed in being brushed off by the construction manager. The sales agents were great to work with during the buying process. Also, the finace agents were great to work with. The construction manager got changed during the process. I am not happy with the following items: 1. The towel rod is in the master toilet room, not placed next to the tub. Reason from the manager: The trim person is not allowed to drill into tile, because it could crack. This maybe true, but the window blind installer did it and the shower installer did it. This made think about the skill level of the workers. This is a high end home builder, therefore they will have very skillful workers. The manager should get the shower installer put in the towel rod. 2. The light switches in the master toilet room and the second bathroom are placed far away from the door, it got placed more than 2 feet away from the door. Reason from the manager: There are studs in the way to move the wires. Yes this is true, but it can get rewire. 3. The keyhole for the interior garage door is upside down. Reason from the manager: This is how we build all of the homes. The process to change the keyhole is very simple. I had to do it, it took 5 minutes. I would not have purchase this house, if I knew that the above items could not get resolved. I feel it should have be caught early in the building process. ... More

There is no quality assurances. There is no trust to installer. After moved in and spent time cleaning up the house. I found out there are lots of damages, uncleaned while installing. If something they thought buyer can't see at walk through. they left damaged products in new home.

The experience with him is not quite good, there are some upgrades in the house that was not mentioned and it was too late to add it in, and there are some that are missing like a middle shelve in the main closet and he said it doesn't have one and the corner edge of the bathroom tiles doesn't have covering and its showing all the roughness of the tiles and there's one towel holder in one of the bathroom that is missing. There are paint issues all over the house that its not address yet. Not satisfied, might sell the house.
