Went through the first walk through, tagged everything we needed them to touch up. Second walk through was a mess, because we had issues with the builders lender we really didn’t have a good final walk through. At this point we just wanted to move in. FYI don’t go with this builders lender. We built our home, started in February finally moved in September. Lender said everything was great we were approved for the whole six months. 3 days before our closing date, they said they couldn’t approve us. For two weeks they told me to pay off certain debts I had. Did everything they asked for at the end still couldn’t. Went with another lender got pre approved in 3 days closed in two weeks. After moving in some of the stuff we tagged for them to fix the first walk through was still there. We thought we could trust the builders. Mostly all the door handles including the front door were loose. Went to the builder to tell them. They gave me a screw driver to go do it my self. I have three months living at my home and I’ve already have had to call my warranty twice to come fix things like, no texture on walls, places they didn’t even paint, huge crack on our cement stair way to the front door. Still haven’t came to fix the rest of the stuff I put on the second order of warranty, and it’s already been a month. Like, the huge crack from one side of the drive way to the other side, one straight line across. I had a guy come fix the stair way to the front door and when my wife showed him the other crack that’s on the drive way. He said that they would probably had to do the whole drive way all over again. No one ever came back. Not worth the pay! The only best thing out of this builder is there sales person that’s at the model home. He has been super helpful to us from the get go and even after I bought the house I’ve called him, because I can’t get a hold of the people that are responsible to fix my issues at my house, he’s always picked up and tried to help me in any way he can. Living in this home issues are so extensive it is easier to just list them by category. The final stages were rushed and thrown together. There is a blatant communication disconnect between management, contractor, vendors and service techs. Hot water: The “contractor crimped the gas line” which ultimately affected us and our neighbors hot water, gas range and stove top. Electrical: Some lights switches were mis-wired, the utility box was filled with wood chips and dust, and when I use the closet plug, it would short out the whole Master bed and bath, tripping the breaker. An exterior lamp, was not properly mounted and needed to be adjusted. One lamp in the media room was missing a bottom plate, after many requests eventually our Contractor provided a whole unit. I had to replace the GFI in our master. Paint: When I wipe an area on the wall too hard, the paint comes off. The doors and windows, have paint was just slapped on. There are drops, drips and splashes throughout the home on our tile floors, windows, light fixtures, fans, door knobs, etc. Hardware, taped to clothes racks, just painted over. Some areas, not painted or caulked at all. Tile: They used the floor tile from our washroom for our Kitchen backsplash! The floor tile is not up to par. There are boot prints, from someone stepping in paint and tracking it through the house. The seal in the kitchen and to our bedrooms, was not complete. We had a cracked tile that I would never have found if not for me fighting off spiders and ants, entering the house through the poorly sealed floor. Cabinets: Our dark colored custom cabinets are ruined. This possibly occurred during install and /or when they removed things to replace the tile and the countertops with the correct ones. A substance on our cabinets, that cannot be wiped off, cleaned off, sanded and painted over. The resolution was to order set of new doors to hopefully camouflage the blemishes in the finish. But Burrows lost track of our order or completely forgot about it. Our contractor wants to come to our house with Burrows and re-re-re-examine the kitchen cabinets and mud room drawer. I informed him that Burrows had been here for over 3 visits, including 2 with the touch up guy and one with 2 gentlemen who took pictures and texted their boss to get approval for replacement doors, which we were told would be here in 2 weeks, 4 weeks ago. They have the specifics on the cabinets, what does a visit do that they could have done, prior to our move in or the many visits in-between? More visits means more exposure to potential COVID-19 infection. Also under-neither and around the cabinets, in the kitchen, the mudroom and the bathrooms are incomplete stain/paint and caulking. Appliances: Gas top Range had no flames. See Hot Water. Faceplate for the microwave keeps coming off. When we first moved in, the dishwasher didn’t work. After many service calls, we requested a replacement. Highland replaced the Dishwasher. It was installed, quickly. The installers wore masks. They were very respectful and mostly efficient. They left copious amounts of water under the sink from the removal of the old dishwasher and installing the new one and didn't give us a heads up, which caused us to think we had flooding under the sink, like our first night in the house. Also the installers tested the dishwasher which was great except, they left the paperwork inside to be washed as well. Thank goodness it was all in plastic. A week or so later, the installers returned fix the microwave trim piece. They found an incorrect sized screw, no screws and a screw that was screwed into a void space, the trim piece is now secure. Doors: The doors were not plumb. Several interior doors had no door pins, the contractor has been able to bring them by when requested and I just hammered them in. A door to the attic space, the pin was not seated properly, after many attempts I was able to hammer that as well. Cleanliness: Our Attic spaces were dirty and needed to be cleaned, builders left old soda cans, filled with soda and a petrified banana. Clint, sent one woman to clean both spaces, above the garage and our upstairs. She did very well, and yet I still found old cans with soda in them, where she could not reach. We shudder at the thought of what could be thrown in the insolation and hidden in the crevices unseen. Pest: We hired pest control. We have had spiders, ants and mosquitos, We also have “Carpet Beetles”. Are the carpet beetles tied to the profound buffoonery we are enduring? I would not go so far as to blame Highland homes for this, but our pest issues have exacerbated and compounded the issues we are dealing with. Especially after finding our attic has been used as a garbage can. Yard: In photographs we noticed, several slates had not been attached, many slates are cracked. The sprinklers that were not working properly, an uneven yard filled with potholes and collected water and, flooding/drainage issue between us and a newly finished home next to us. As of this writing, that issue is still in the progress of being resolved. Missing Window: We discovered, by reviewing our plans Highland Homes missed installing a window in our living room. Highland homes has graciously offered to send a construction crew to fix this. We are extremely reticent to have anymore vendors from Highland near our home, let alone a construction crew due! For 2 months straight we have had people in and out of our house, during a pandemic, The interruptions and the lack of competency has become maddening. Highland Homes has attempted to blame us for their shoddy work, no one signed off on the home they promised to have completed. This is on them. Highland Homes: Great sales, lovely house over all, nice people, ruined by bad vendors, shoddy craftsmanship, a lack of communication and accountability. I was disappointed immediately after moving Into our home. Many electrical problems that required me to wait for the tech on multiple days. One day he didn’t even show up. We were told that all appliances were tested. Which would of been impossible because my dishwasher didn’t have power going to it. So a flat out lie. No one inspected the house, or they would have found multiple outlets with no power and the crossed wires in my garage. The home’s media box where the modem and router go are at the furthest point in the house. Sadly we have poor signal because of this. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HOME FROM THEM. ... More

Contractor's building the home abused the cabinets, bath tubs, plumbing and many others fixtures. Roof in the front was not completed properly. Open holes under gables lack proper sealing. Roof leaks in front under eve. Exterior pieces were not completed properly (sealed on exterior properly). Many items identified in final walk through to be completed as part of the sale, remain uncompleted after 2 months. Lack of response by builder to rectify. Hire your own inspector prior to closing for a new home by this builder. Home lacks insulation over rooms in the attic (it is visible). Demand all items be completed before closing! Having purchased several homes in my life, new and used, I have purchased used homes that require less fixing to repair the household than new on this one. ... More

Our home was initially scheduled for completion in March/April. We told them no rush, as May was good with us. They scheduled closing May 30. I emailed more than once to confirm closing date as they appeared behind, mostly due to them stopping work on my home to build their new model (they verbally confirmed this was true.) We pushed closing back one day due to last day of school activities. The day before closing (on the original close date!), we still had a broken window, no fence, a leak in the bathroom, no inspection certificate, and MANY other major issues. They first wanted to do an affidavit for the repairs, but then after not passing inspection had to delay our closing TWO WEEKS. Had we been contingent, we would have lost the house, or been homeless. They acted like it was no big deal. Once we finally closed, we had to chase down keys, and still had a short affidavit. It took them 7 weeks to finish what they promised in 7 days. And we only got it done because we went to social media and got a meeting with the regional. They still don’t care about how much they inconvenienced us, or the HOURS of my time wasted with their contractors after closing. They made MANY mistakes along the way - I still have things that are wrong that I’m choosing to live with because I’m done fighting them. They admitted they didn’t give us their best but made no other amends. It’s been a horrible, stressful process - right in the middle of our family adopting and going through heart surgeries for our new son - and I could never recommend them as a builder. ... More

The building process was a nightmare due to the construction managers that oversee your home build. They had zero concern over quality or workmanship by the contractors and nothing was made right by them. We have built before and never thought it would be this bad. I’m not kidding! By from a different builder!

From my experience (first and the LAST) with Highland homes is that they used very very cheep materials. we moved in little over a month now, the master bedroom closet where we hang clothes fell off with the metal bar, on the other side the brackets bending down and the wood piece coming off the wall. both garage doors making scary noise when goes up. kitchen entry door from garage always hits the pantry doors, also highland painted the door hinges. first of all I believe using dead cheep materials and poor supervision caused these issues,

The experience was horrible! The quality and lack of carelessness has been the worst. I have bought new houses before and have never experienced this lack quality.

It has been a very disappointing experience. Many issues to fix with the house after moving in. Very poor paint job in some of the rooms, issues with plumbing, the dishwasher wasn't installed properly and leaked on to the floor. The flooring needed replacing after this, but 6 weeks later it still hasn't happened. A light fixture in the kitchen has been broken for 4 months. No replacement in sight. I now dislike my home because of the experience the builder has given me.

I recently purchased a new property from Highland Homes, and I must say, the experience has been extremely disappointing. Here's why: 1. Poor Workmanship: The quality of the construction is far below what one would expect for the price. Numerous issues have arisen, from uneven flooring to poorly finished walls and faulty plumbing. It’s evident that the craftsmanship is subpar. 2. Low Quality Materials: The materials used in the construction of the home are of low quality. Doors, windows, and fixtures all feel cheap and have already begun to show signs of wear and tear within a short period of moving in. 3. High Prices: The cost of the home is exorbitant compared to the quality delivered. You are essentially paying a premium price for what amounts to substandard housing. 4. Poor Responsiveness: Trying to get issues addressed by the builder has been a nightmare. Customer service is unresponsive, and when they do respond, the solutions are either inadequate or delayed significantly. 5. Lack of Trustworthiness: Overall, the experience has left me with a deep sense of mistrust towards Highland Homes. They make grand promises during the sales pitch, but fail to deliver on almost every front. In conclusion, I would not recommend Highland Homes to anyone looking for a new property. Things not completed on time. Poor workmanship. Poor delivery. Poor quality of craftsmanship. Poor commitment to homeowner! No ETA. After 3 months into the home, still have so many issue pending. You have forced me to decide that I don't want to live in this house for longer than I have to. No one even thinks like that for a rental home.

We had great expectations when we initially signed in for Highland homes at Lakewood at Brookhollow, prosper but later our experience with the sales and the builder turned to be the worst. It is unfortunate even after paying such a hefty price for the new home by Highland we had to face such an ordeal and still struggling to get many issues fixed. All the work is contracted and there is no proper inspection of the work post completion by the contractor. House was handed to us with many pending issues. The builder took advantage of the fact that we were not in a position to reschedule the closing and left many open items unaddressed. No proper response even after repeated follow up. No proper information provided. Pragmatic living conditions not taken into consideration. Many upgrades were ignored and we had to specifically point out and get the rework done. Almost 50+ days of closing and we still have many unsolved/unaddressed issues. ... More

I would never buy a Highland home again and would recommend anyone buying a new home to find another builder. The sales team is unresponsive, the Highland lending team (which they incentivize you to use) is incompetent, and the quality of work for the actual house is far less quality than you would expect for paying such a high price. We’ve had multiple things wrong with the house, damage to our personal property, and 2 months in to purchasing the house we still have so many things to fix. I wish we never bought a home from Highland and I will never again.

Highland homes used cheap third party companies to do their work like plumbing etc. it’s all lazy work and we found many issues after we moved into the new house. They didnot fix any issues that we have raised . They just say yes to your request and will not implement them later. Totally waste of money and we are extremely disappointed with the purchase. Please stay away from highland homes even when you are getting a better price because you will have to pay for repairs due to cheap quality

Not Great experience with Highland Homes

there are so many mistakes and issues in home we can literally tell it just by looking at it, the builder assigned to us is not cooperative at all, in some situations he is adament and not willing to fix the fundamental problem , we still have so many outstanding issues that are not taken care properly from Paint, Irrigation issues etc... I hope Highland home sees this review and gets back to me to resolve those issues..

I am not totally happy with the construction process which has too many flaws. People who worked on the home are not skilled and that is bad.

I’m verbally your staff have never been helpful at all , we still have some issues that we had addressed when we made the deal , till now not fixed

Recommend you go with a different builder. Our experience = we are the quality control for Highland Homes. When we bring up the too many to list issues on this forum with our home, we are told it will be fixed & then ignored. It appears to us that they are building to many homes simultaneously & ignoring the poor craftsmanship of their subcontractors after the paperwork is signed.

Quality is horrible. Sloppy work. Overpriced. Will Not recommend. House is up for sale. Too many problems.Going to Toll Brothers. Will not recommend!

Cheap materials, extremely high prices not suitable for the final product. We bought almost 2 months ago and we are still dealing with the same walkthroughs issues from before closing time.

I Wouldn’t recommend highland to my dog .We still have messed up cabinets and no one is responding after we close .

Our home buying experience with Highland Homes was horrible. The builder we worked with did not respect my wife or our realtor during the final walk thru. He told us what he was not going to complete during that time. We choose to close on 12/15/22 but was promised by the builder all items would be finished in 10 days that did not take place. It’s is 2/8/23 and we are still dealing with him and our master bathroom is still not done. It took us calling highland corporate and sending him multiple emails to get any response from him. His manager has not been much better with communication. Since our bathroom title was cracked the manager said Highland would get us a check so we could replace it after the fact and we still don’t have that. If anyone ask our experience with Highland this is that we would tell them. Why we chose a Highland Home was because of the quality and customer experience and none of those things have happened. ... *For perspective, I have 24 years in the building industry (sales side) and built my last 2 homes in another state with other builders. My comments below are beyond the normal issues all new build have. What is not included is the lack of follow up, attention to details and planning. This home build with Highland has been rough. Tears, frustration, unease and distrust all flowed thru my family….but we went thru the build because we had no other options because we moved from out of state. Currently about 2 months into the home and we still have major repairs going on, here is a quick recap in the current state, I am grouping it by locations. Inside: General -curved walls due to bad framing. -holes were punched into the Sheetrock all around the home to find a bad wire because the power in the bath would not turn on….the breaker was tripped. Now have variations in the wall texture because no one looked at the breaker box before punching holes into the wall. -paint issues all around the home, painter had been back multiple times, just takes the tape off the wall and moves on. If any painting were done, paint drips and splatter ended up everywhere. Outside -had 3 driveways poured. 1 was cracked, 1 was installed with a expansion line that veered off 8” from center. The latest driveway has a significant chunk taken out of it and patched…also tool grind marks are in the driveway. I gave up on having a decent driveway put in and instead asked for a nicer sidewalk for compensation. They will do that…just have been left with no sidewalk, just a hole in the ground for several days. -the front profile of the house was compromised by weather proofing wrapping around the front of the home, unlike the model or other homes….it was just faster for this Sub. They corrected it but left black glue marks on the front brick. -several brick were left off the house and the soffit/gutters were installed leaving a 8”x4” hole in the side of the house. This “passed inspection”. -soffit boards and trim was cut short, leaving 2 more holes at the back of the home. Also passed “inspection”. -3 areas where we had stucco, 3 different profiles. Had to have them replace it to all match -had to redo the fireplace outside on the patio, the firebox was installed crooked. Also had to redo the whole front of the brick and hearth, crooked, cracked and glue was on it. Also needed a new mantel. -new front window was needed, scratched. -needed a new front door, the change order was not followed. -holes in the front porch brick/grout/mortar. Had to have them back twice to correct. -the front of the house had the wrong stain installed, had to get a new garage door and shutters. -shingles had to be replaced, brick debris stained the shingles. Living Room/Kitchen -for the first walk thru before Sheetrock, they had the wrong plans/no change orders. (Also didn’t bring a pencil, I lent mine I had on me). -fireplace was built to the small version, paid for the floor to ceiling and for a floating mantle. Had to tear out the corbels and add the top of the fireplace…5 different grout lines and uneven brick work on top create a wave effect. Had to tear it out to try again, still was poor workmanship (this time there was cracks in the brick from the tear out). Had to tear it all out and reinstall, this one looks good. -Flooring, in the process of the fireplace being fixed, they installed the wood floor and left it u protected, leaving chunks taken out of the floor from falling bricks. -back patio door is not squared up the transom above it, ordered the wrong size door. No fix for this besides hiding it with curtains (this is their current solution) -the wrong cabinets were ordered, the Change Order had no wine cabinets and instead regular cabinets put in. They installed the wine cabinets. -many doors and drawers in the kitchen have touch up not completed after several follow ups. -countertop had a deep gouge. -the top crown above the hutch was stalled crooked due to ceiling issues. -wood floor had oil stains on it from construction. -wood floor had been split, carpet installers nailed into the wood floor. Master Bath/closet -the wrong closet for the master was wrong, did not follow the change order. -once the right one was installed, the profile was not like the model. It was explained that there is 3 versions of this closet that Highland Corp designed and there is no way to know which one will be installed. We not have it corrected with nail holes visible , cut marks and glue painted over in a gloopy fashion. -master bath had a leaking window. -the tile has cut ends in the shower with paint on those ends, already peeling 2 months in. Should have used trike trim Upstairs/stairs -the skirt board on the stairs had 2 profiles, leaving up to 1” holes on one side where the riser and the tread meet. The solution was too stuff carpet into those holes so we wouldn’t see it. Also had a handrail that looked like a ski jump. As if this review, this is still not done. They fixed most of this, but caused enough damage that there needs to be another major tear out. -wrong carpet was installed upstairs. -all the bathrooms upstairs had their shower handles installed incorrectly, there is no fix for this unless the whole bath wall is torn out. -the window upstairs with an arch, had to be redone 3 times. Main floor -wrong tile installed in the powder room, they still installed the sink and toilet on top of it. New tile and grout has left behind stains on the trim. There is so much more , but getting tired of writing. Hope this paints a picture of the issues involved and why a 1 star is justified. ... More

Make sure you get a home inspection and do not sign for the home until everything...And I mean EVERYTHING...is fixed no matter what they say or how bad you want the house. Quality of craftsmanship is pretty bad. Work is sloppy. You won't be able to tell until you clean the home really well. A lot of things were broken or broke quickly after moving in. Warranty work is shoddy. It's all patch work to get you to sign for the home, no quality repairs or quality work throughout the house. Unfortunately, all of my neighbors are saying the same thing. Very sad to see.
