Our home was initially scheduled for completion in March/April. We told them no rush, as May was good with us. They scheduled closing May 30. I emailed more than once to confirm closing date as they appeared behind, mostly due to them stopping work on my home to build their new model (they verbally confirmed this was true.) We pushed closing back one day due to last day of school activities. The day before closing (on the original close date!), we still had a broken window, no fence, a leak in the bathroom, no inspection certificate, and MANY other major issues. They first wanted to do an affidavit for the repairs, but then after not passing inspection had to delay our closing TWO WEEKS. Had we been contingent, we would have lost the house, or been homeless. They acted like it was no big deal. Once we finally closed, we had to chase down keys, and still had a short affidavit. It took them 7 weeks to finish what they promised in 7 days. And we only got it done because we went to social media and got a meeting with the regional. They still don’t care about how much they inconvenienced us, or the HOURS of my time wasted with their contractors after closing. They made MANY mistakes along the way - I still have things that are wrong that I’m choosing to live with because I’m done fighting them. They admitted they didn’t give us their best but made no other amends. It’s been a horrible, stressful process - right in the middle of our family adopting and going through heart surgeries for our new son - and I could never recommend them as a builder. ... More

The building process was a nightmare due to the construction managers that oversee your home build. They had zero concern over quality or workmanship by the contractors and nothing was made right by them. We have built before and never thought it would be this bad. I’m not kidding! By from a different builder!

During the purchase of the home, everything was great and we were assured that Highland Homes takes care of their buyers before and after the purchase. We have found that to be untrue. Our experience after moving in has been very poor. We still do not have a working stove exhaust hood and we have been in the home for over a month now. We have a ceiling fan making a loud noise and when the warranty manager came to look at it he explained that it doesn't make the noise if we keep the fan on low. This is the fix?! You have got to be kidding me! We have an exterior back door that has warped and the security sensor keeps giving us a false unauthorized entry alert. Again, the warranty manager came to look at it and said he would have the security company move and realign the sensor. This is the fix?! Leave a warped door on our brand new home and move the sensor. We are extremely frustrated and need help from Highland Homes Upper Management. Please help us. ... More

We were very pleased with using Highland loan source. We are NOT pleased with dealing with construction and warranty issues. This is our second highland home in 5 years . The first experience in 2014 was great. Now in 2019 this experience is much different and to be honest very disappointing.

We’ve bought several new homes in the past 20 years and I must say this is the worst by far in regards to quality, workmanship and service. We selected Highland in Wright’s Landing 50’s based on the advice of our broker and the fact that our last neighborhood in May Valley only had Highland and Village Builder homes - which were of superb quality. The appeal of selecting an employer owned company was also attractive because of the assumed personal attachment to the craftsmanship, quality and details of the finished product. The contractors used in the construction process simply either don’t care or are incompetent or both. Sadly, construction management does little to reinforce these issues. The experience was so disappointing, that the director of construction management for the greater Houston area changed project managers after we closed on the home because of his ineptitude. The second construction manager was much, much better but unfortunately it was too late to change our perception of Highland. It is hard to believe that painters would be sent out 5 times to retouch the same spot on a wall, which is still shoddy. Can you believe that we were told by their electricians that it is acceptable for our lights to dim and flicker when we vacuum or use a blender because this is a byproduct of the house’s energy efficient design? (We were literally told this by Highland electricians two weeks ago). Their main concern was to get us to sign the affidavit, which we begrudgingly did due to the exhaustion from this process. We are embarrassed to tell family and friends that our new home is a Highland product and to tell them the unfinished, sloppy concrete stories (which still exist) or the tacky cabinet and doors finishes issues (which I am looking at now). It’s interesting to note that the sales experience was amazing. This poor rating addresses the pre and post construction process and poor customer service related issues. At this time, we would not recommend Highland to anyone and would welcome a phone call or visit from one of their executives. ... More

I was very disappointment with the whole process. First the tile and the flooring, back splash was installed with the incorrect ones from the ones I chose. The house was not complete for our first walk through and we had to do another one which had a lot of issues also. We are now having issues with leaking in our roof and has damaged the drywall in our garage. The water meter is leaking and has caused me to have a very high water bill. This issues all have been dealt with but I feel that this should not have even happened in the first place. I think it was poor workmanship and materials that caused the problem but as a home builder it should be your job to manage these issues from occurring. ... More

Poor walls and supplies used. Paint rubs right off. More than 20 items needed to be fixed or repaired AFTER moving in. Been here for more than 3 months and still waiting for repairs and replacements.

Too many build quality issues. Concerned they will not fix some of them. Most materials used are of low quality. Installation of many items not done well. Very slow to address issues.

Please please have your own inspector The labor they hire are worthless not good workmanship. They do not take pride in their work There is never a foreman in site yo check behind workers. I been in my home abouy 2 months now. Im still having problem. Had a leak in my house the first month. Poorly built. Im not satisfied about my house. I had to have highland come back and nailed down my floor board still having electrical problems present day 3/20/2019. Very very upset about my whole building experience. Never never again. I will never never refer highland homes to anyone, not even have a homeless dog live in an highland home. ... More
