Very happy with our first Highland Home. Our sales rep Laurie helped with lot selection, orientation of the home and went to bat for us to get the best value. We were constantly at the site and often talked with our construction sup Brody. Being involved in the process gave us a much better understanding of our construction. The 4 star on workmanship and materials is likely a function of increased demand on third party vendors. Trim and paint guys seemed to be in a rush and it shows up. Still a great house and would be fantastic with a little more attention to fine details.

Patty and Thea at the Ventana Subdivision have been amazing to work with! We are so happy with our new home and look forward to selling more to friends and family.

Caulking, transitions between different paint colors get sloppy, window lift not debur and it’s very sharp

Be upfront with the buyer and let them know exactly what they are getting. Do not blame or penalize the buyer for a mistake Highland made. Have real sample of building materials in one location so the buyer will not have to pick materials from a picture ina 3 ring binder. Finally make sure that the Highland team in the area you’re selling home has the knowledge , experience, and customer service skills to sell your homes.

Highland Mortgage and Highland Builders did a outstanding job!. We completed the offer, the loan and closing in 30 days.

Highland and their employees did a great job of getting us into our home in a timely manner. Any flaws we've uncovered since we moved in have been quickly corrected. We're very pleased with them and recommend their homes highly.

Not much choice on "cheap" (but not-inexpensive) light fixtures, need to add 1/4 round at base at wood floors and floor tile and not just large caulk joints. Same at the end of wall tile, there are several ways to finish off the end of tile other than large caulk joints. Overall workmanship on the house was Excellent!

The Best Builder in Texas

We really liked HH (HighlandHomes) interior design and exterior design, which led us purchase the new-construction home. Sales experience was smooth and initial interaction (prior closing) with builder was nice as well. After moving into home, we opened more than expected warranty issues in first 2 months. We feel that HH is very strong in sales, interior/exterior design, overall home building standards, however we found that workers (i.e. contracting agencies doing actual work for HH) are rushing up and producing just okay. Electric/Lighting warranty issues are repeating several times. We hope that HH enforces contracting agencies to take ownership of faulty work and produce better quality home to customers. For only these reasons, I am reducing my rating for quality of workmanship & materials from 4 to 2, and Value for the price paid from 4 to 3. Builders are very responsive to warranty issues, we are still new to the home so we are hoping that warranty issues are resolved at customer's satisfaction. For new-construction home buyers, we would *highly* recommend buying Highland Homes over other builders for the value for the price paid. Overall we were pleased with our home, but it wasn't without a lot of frustration. Our construction manger left the company after the slab was poured. We were assured the new construction manager would be just as receptive. I believe he was spread way too thin and possibly placed his trust into someone else. We did a number of changes from the standard build plans and the construction crew didn't follow the build plans at all. As someone who isn't in the business at all or is handy blue prints it was easy for me to see the glaring omissions and items that were not built to spec. Since a number of items had to be changed completely and re-done this caused a delay and moved out the closing date by about 3 weeks. We brought up these issues throughout the process and we were pretty much dismissed with "oh, you've never built a house before. This is pretty common". While it might be common in the housing the industry to ignore the blue prints and then have to add things that were missed (like a fireplace, for one) it's extremely stressful on the buyer side. Building & purchasing a house is extremely stressful and certain things are out of your control, like mother nature, but the overall experience wasn't pleasant. We love our home, but based on the overall process I don't think we'd go with Highland again. I'm sure on a spec home they are great, but the ball was dropped on numerous customization items. If we decide to build another home down the line we'll probably go with a builder that is more familiar with custom homes. ... More

In less than a month after moving in some items failed working and even after reporting to the warranty manager no body came to fix it. Highlands needs to improve on how to handle their customers complains.

Our home buying process was easy. No hiccups along the way and it was a pleasure working with Daniel, that part was a 5 out 5! However after we moved in we noticed a number of issues that weren’t done to our liking. We even noticed a few “blue tape” pieces still on the spots where we left them, signaling no one even saw it. We were told that we would notice things but I did not expect major appliances needing to be fixed or changed out. I gotta say based on our awesome building process and your reputation, I was expecting a little more out of the home itself.

The sales representatives were fantastic. We were always treated with respect and courtesy when visiting the sales/design center. Once in the house, things changed slightly. On move in day, we attempted to hook up our dryer (electric) when I was shocked due to the plug being wired incorrectly. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the plug had no ground thus allowing for electric feedback. I had to re-wire the plug correctly. Next, after a further (detailed) inspection of the house it was discovered that there are many quality related issues that in my opinion are unacceptable. The quality of he painting is quite poor and there is paint on everything (tile, wood floor, cabinets, etc). I know for a fact that the contractors were back several times to repair issues but there still seems to be a disconnect with what quality work is expected. I know this seems petty but there are many other cosmetic/ quality craftsmanship issues that are too much to list. The final issue that effected the overall rating is the waterline to the refrigerator. On move in day we brought in our refrigerator and hooked it up to the waterline for the ice maker. After trying the water dispenser it was discovered that there was no water supply to the line and therefore this feature was unable to be used. I emailed Highland of the issue and waited nearly 1 month to hear back. Once I sent a reminder email, the contractor was called and scheduled immediately. The contractor arrived on the appointment day to check but was not able to fix the issue. Even though I thoroughly explained he issue, they still sent a technician over to see if the waterline was turned on and ensure the line was connected correctly. Once this was verified, I was told that he was not able to fix the issue since this is not a one man job. He told me that the office would call to reschedule and they would need to send over another crew to investigate. I have not burned a days vacation for a 10 minute appointment with not result. The frustrating part of the entire process is that the contractors who need to perform the repairs are only available Monday thru Friday during normal business hours. This means that the homeowner must rearrange their schedule so the poor quality craftsmanship can be repaired at the contractor convenience. Seems a little backwards from how customer service is supposed to work. I really had high expectations from Highland since we've looked at this houses before, lived in one previously, and had such a great experience with the sales team. I question whether or not I would repurchase another Highland Home and currently feel as though I would definitely not recommend them to friends and family. I truly hope this was just a one off experience but only have this experience to judge them on their customer service. Hope to hear from them soon. ... More

I had built a home prior to this with a different builder and assumed I'd experience much of the same issues and related stress with this new build with Highland. Thankfully I was wrong! The process from start to finish was like a dream. When any issues did pop up (as is the nature of new construction), the Highland team (especially the builder and Sales Rep) were nothing short of outstanding! I actually enjoyed every phase immensely and I am so grateful to Highland for that experience. They have my highest recommendation.

Home was delivered as promised and in excellent condition. All items we subsequently found that we wanted addresses were quickly fixed with no hassle at all. Very pleased with Highland homes.

We love our new Highland home. Kate in the office has been phenomenal from start to finish and continues to be great if we ever need her. I wish I could say the same for the builder. Emails were consistently ignored, communication on repairs were poor, and excuses were plenty. It wasn't until we complained that we started to get the service that we expected in the first place. The house had the normal things that needed to be repaired but nothing major. The one issue we have is the varying levels of the backyard. From this water collects on one side of our yard. The fill used for the dirt is poor so it stays muddy several days after it rains. When asked about this our builder said "well, it's up to code". It'll now be an added cost on use to fill the low spots. There are a few areas where it was clear the workers got lazy but overall we're happy with the house. Now if we can only get neighbors who don't leave dogs out all day to bark(obviously not on Highland but important to consider in the Morningstar neighborhood). ... More

Love the people at Highland Homes and their home designs. The home building industry has a shortage of qualified skilled labor so end product suffers. I have maybe two walls in the house that does not have a texture/paint flaws. I thought a half million dollar product would look better. I think all builders have the same problems though. Again the people at Highland Homes are OUTSTANDING!!!

Overall, we are happy with our home...but there are little things we think Highland could have done better at. Since moving in we've found things that either the construction manager or the subs should have caught before releasing the home. For instance - uneven grout, tiles with clearly visible chips, wobbly paint lines, inoperable or poorly installed data cables, and overall cleaning prior to release. I will say that when brought to the attention of the builder, they have been quick to remedy. Like I said, we are happy with the house but I doubt we will go with Highland if and when we need to move to a larger home. Although a semi-custom builder, don't believe they really took the time to make sure the house it perfect. More concerned with closing and moving on to the next house in line. ... More

Our home buying experience was great. Lisa, Rich, and Nunnie were great in getting my family into our home in Parkside.

There was lack of supervision during the entire build process. Corrective action were poor. We were pushed to close even without things being completed. I have broke water lines in the sprinkler system. I had expressed concern about leaks in the sprinkler system before close and I was told they were fixed. First water bill was extremely high and I am still waiting for the lines to be fixed and outcome of the water bill reimbursement.

I believe that I got a great home, however there were many things that had to be done well after the move in. I believe it was rushed and therefore much was missed. The employees of highland however have been really great and truly want to help so that has made it easier to deal with things that were missed. Overall it is a great place to live and a great builder to purchase with. The biggest thing they need to work on is finishing everything to the customers expectations and get a new cleaning crew!!!! I had to pay over $400 after moving in just to get my house clean! Worst cleaning crew ever!!!! If they continue to use the ladies they are using now expect to have to clean your house multiple times over just to get it livable to expectations! Paint is still on my floors, caulk in the drains, grout in the drains, trash in the yard. Windows I’m still cleaning 2 months after the fact due to paint on them I can’t get off. We recently moved to a brand new valuable home with excitement but turned out to be a miserable life living inside the house from day 1. We are seeing many mice inside the brand new home from day 1. I wish Highland homes should have informed me regarding mice issue in the subdivision to give me a choice to consider to by a house or look somewhere else. If I was informed by Highland homes prior to buying a house regarding mice concern in the subdivision then I would have consider not to by this particular house but look for a house in different area. I hope someone from Highland homes will contact me to resolve this major issue. ... More

Great to work with from design to build to finish. Everything we asked for before, during, and after the construction process was completed as promised. They made everything right!

Everyone was great - from the sales staff to the builder supervisor all the way through to warranty issues!!
