Are you looking for frozen hot water pipes during Christmas. Or perhaps a leaky roof that soaks into the garage drywall. Maybe bad finishes are more of your thing. Exterior doors that do not seat evenly into their door frames, interior doors installed unevenly and do not seat evenly (top of the door sits at a 10 degree angle), baseboard corners do not meet and are filled with caulk, cracked interior door trim that is sloppy filled with caulk and not sanded smooth, unevenly spaced tile, stained grout, visible seams in drywall, (drywall crew can’t do butt joints), crocked drywall due to crocked framing, damaged windows, 1 leaking window. The Highlands construction crew was kind enough to leave a 40oz beer bottle of beer festering within my bathtub cavity. The only reason I found it was because the tile in our master bath had to be re-tiled after fighting with the builder to correct an issue where shower water was spraying through the shower frame into the adjacent bath tub area. Also note that the construction crew that did this repair did not clean up their work area. I did and that’s when I discovered the bottle of booze. I am a first time home buyer that worked hard to save up a down payment for a new construction build so I could focus on my career. Instead my time has been consumed meticulously photographing the bad construction of this home and learning about proper construction methods so I can push back against the builders when they tell me the issues I point out, aren’t actually issues. This gaslighting from Highland homes and their unapologetic behavior is the cherry on top. Let them sit on their inventory. Their homes are not worth what they are priced when they can even execute simple tasks like properly insulating hot water pipes. This is spelled out in the contract. There are so many more issues I can share but I want this to be digestible for viewers thinking about buying from Highland Homes. Questions you should ask: How much experience does the project manager have? Not the guy listed on the contract, signing the paperwork - the actual employee overseeing construction and communicating with the buyer? Will the Highland Homes sales agent inform the buyer if any branded build materials are swapped out for a lesser brand? If the interior of cabinets are damaged, will the builder replace the cabinet wood or opt to cover the damage with wood looking sticker? Will my kitchen cabinets fit neatly within the nock like the Highland Home’s model? If not how will Highland Homes resolve the issue? Are the hot water pet pipes insulted from end to end to prevent freezing? If the installation of my exterior doors do not match the same quality I experience at the Highland Home’s model how will Highland Homes resolve the issue? Can I get this in writing? Should I expect my home to include any unfinished rooms that are not highlighted in the build plan? Is there any insulation between your wood flooring and the concrete slab? Is there any underlayment between your tile and slab to prevent tile from cracking? Now that mortgage interest rates are sitting at new highs I suspect home buyers are not rushing to lock-in interest rates and put earnest money down on these new construction homes. Please take your time. Hire a lawyer to review your contract and hire an inspector to inspect the home before the drywall goes up and before you close. I share this information not to bad mouth Highland Homes but to share my honest accounting of my experience. Our home buying experience with Highland Homes was horrible. The builder we worked with did not respect my wife or our realtor during the final walk thru. He told us what he was not going to complete during that time. We choose to close on 12/15/22 but was promised by the builder all items would be finished in 10 days that did not take place. It’s is 2/8/23 and we are still dealing with him and our master bathroom is still not done. It took us calling highland corporate and sending him multiple emails to get any response from him. His manager has not been much better with communication. Since our bathroom title was cracked the manager said Highland would get us a check so we could replace it after the fact and we still don’t have that. If anyone ask our experience with Highland this is that we would tell them. Why we chose a Highland Home was because of the quality and customer experience and none of those things have happened. ... Very poor experience during the home building and buying process. This was our 5th new construction home so we knew it was going to be rough but could never have expected it to be as bad as it was. Everything on this home had to be done twice basically because people weren't help accountable (the brick even had to be torn down and new brick installed - windows wrong color - wrong fireplace etc.), construction quality was extremely poor for this price point (closed over two months ago and still don't have everything complete - CM is great, things just move extremely slow), paid extra for upgrades that were never done (still working to get it resolved). For example, I paid to upgrade bathroom fixtures and they just installed the cheaper ones and never said anything. I questioned them on it and it is still not resolved (said a back-order issue but this was in my change orders at the design center from a year prior to construction). When I was in buying phase , because of all the crazy bidding and other things in Austin market, I had really different perspective for home builder. Amy and Matt changed the perspective completely after working with Highland homes in positive way. Matt L and Amy A have been helping us from Stage-1 to Stage-10. Even after closing Matt is paying attention to all our concerns and provide explanation/learning as new home owner and address the concerns on timely manner. The house build is so good that during recent ice storm even without power, the house hold the 68 F temperature for next four hours and only dropped to 4 F by morning at 8 am. Outside temperature was 28 F at that time. Energy efficiency was super important for us and it proved to be best during recent storm event. Outside of that Matt and Amy has been teaming up to resolve all the issues and questions we had for different phases of constructions. During the final walk-in, Matt verified all the fixes we have on list. Matt take pride in building home and made sure he/himself is happy with work as if he were to move-in here. Matt is also most knowledgeable when it comes to construction and providing homeowner tips on how to maintain it going forward, and even show us how to do it while Amy has always provided insight into must vs good to have in house. Our overall experience with Highland Homes has been amazing. The team that includes Lesli and Seth have been awesome on every level of us buying our wonderful home. However, we had one issue that has stained our overall experience with Highlands homes. We moved into our home only to find out that we had a rat/mice infestation in the walls and attic of our home within the first week of moving in. A total of 7 rats/mice have been caught since and we believe there are more. My wife and I have lost sleep and our disappointment over the noise and interruption of our daily lives due to the infestation has only made matters worse. And while Lesli and Seth were amazing in responding to our issues regarding this matter, Highland Homes did not compensate us for the emotional damage as well as the loss of value dealing with this mice/rat infestation. They did offer to put us up in a hotel, but we didn't need that as we have friends in the area. We simply wanted some type of monetary value for the issues we dealt with and are continuing to deal with as it relates to the infestation. Our lives have been severally impacted and disrupted with this issue. We've had to cut open our walls to insert rat/mice traps, we had to have a pest guy visit every week on the hour to inspect what is going on. We even had holes outside of our home that were discovered by the pest guy after we moved in that needed to be closed and patched up properly. This should never happen to a homeowner who has spent nearly $1Million dollars to buy their home. It made my wife and I feel as though we weren't valued and or listened to regarding the time we have had to deal with on this issue. Our new home experience has been marred and difficult since we moved in. I only wish that we had selected another home now due to the experience we've suffered through due to the rat/mice infestation that we continue to deal with. I'm a little embarrassed to show off our home to our guest and family members as well as gush over the home with our new neighbors due to our rat/mice infestation problem. Again, this is not a reflection on Seth or Lesli. They have been great leading up to the buying experience of our home. Since we've moved in, the infestation has been a nightmare. I only pray that no other homeowner goes through what we have gone through. We will continue to grin and bare this experience that has not been fun to deal with unil all rats/mice are removed and sounds within our home dissipate. ... More

Highland Homes are beautiful! I love the open concept floor plan and high ceilings of my single story home. The staff is easy to work with and answered all of my questions. I moved from another state and was able to sign most of my documents online which was helpful.

Hello, Overall, my house is great. It's the construction around my house. Currently, two highland homes are being built by me. The construction workers are messy (leaving mud prints all over my driveway) and play loud music during evening times (after 6 pm) Please fix this.

It is really very nice

Right from when we started talking to our sales agent Todd to getting the keys in our hand, we had a very pleasant home buying experience. Everyone was very transperant and very receptive to all the questions we had. Our builder Garrett was amazing to work with. Empathetic, polite and always receptive to ideas, suggestions and changes. In such a competitive market, it really was a stress free experience building our house with Highland. Highly recommend them.

The 40 ft lot is just too small. The house needs just a few feet more width for the rooms to not be awkward sized. The garages are very small. There are a lot of nice features as well. Builders is very responsive to warranty requests.

We are so thrilled to have a Highland Home. We had been under contract with 2 other builders that didn’t work out, but when we came to Highland, EVERYONE bent over backwards for us to move in our beautiful home! Tom was absolutely amazing from the beginning and Chris worked a miracle to get us closed before Christmas. It truly was an amazing experience. My family and I are forever grateful for our Highland Home team!

My family and I are extremely pleased with the communication, craftsmanship, and overall customer service that we received from Highland Homes! Monica was on point from day one with addressing our every concern. Sydney always cheerful and happy to help whenever needed. My experience with my new home is good and could be better if the list of pending items are not so high! When I bought the house, the seller mentioned the inspection process and every item that was not in accordance with my expectation would be fixed. I walked through the house, and we found lots of items that needed to be fixed and unfortunately lots of the items were not solved and even after 1 month, we still have items to be fixed. My second point is related to house cleaning. The carpets, garage and attic were very dirty with dust, and material left behind by the crew. My expectation is that I will receive the house cleaned. One of my frustrations is regarding the sprinklers, because when I bought it, it was mentioned that I could manage the sprinklers through the app on my phone, however it was not mentioned that I need to buy the network card. It was set an expectation and when I wanted to see working, it was communicated that I needed to buy a card to see working, so the expectation that was set created a feeling of frustration and disappointment. My last comment is related to the good Job that Andres is doing to fix all pending items that I have to work on my house. My only suggestion is Hinghlands implement an inspection process with superior quality because some of the rework can be minimized and overall client satisfaction will be better. ... More

My experience with Highland Homes has been poor. First using their partner lender, they increased the amount of down payment I owed by $8K at the 11th hour for something they could have found out months in advance. Once I moved into the house, the finish work on some of the tile, paint, and door casings was actually terrible. All of the issues of the home inspection have still yet to be resolved. I closed on Dec 16 and am writing this on Feb 3. Highland preaches their build quality and customer service and I have not had a positive experience with either.

Highland Homes is a top builder. Overall quality of the end product is excellent, and we really like our home.

Salesperson Jay was great and very helpful as we looked at inventory homes and decided to buy one. Builder Jimmy was unbelievably awesome in responding to all the final touches and requests that needed to be done to complete the house; he was very attentive and came through on every request (some took longer than others, with final items finishing 3 months after closing, but we were informed why, in the context of each delay that occurred). We are generally very impressed with the workmanship on our Highland Home! Great job and thank you!

We are pleased with the overall results of the long / arduous / frustrating process. Having said that, one major takeaway is this: the outsourcing of the design meeting (IBB) and the electric meeting (InCharge) has had a very negative impact on the timeliness, professionalism, and overall quality of the experience that people have come to know and expect from Highland Homes. It's not the same anymore, unfortunately.

Brian has been amazing. He is extremely patient, responsive to any concerns, and has made this experience a lot less stressful than anticipated. He has been communicative and transparent every step of the way. Would not have wanted to go through this process without him.

My experience with Highland is absolutely fantastic. From the sales to the design gallery and to the construction process, everyone involved went above and beyond to make sure that the top-notch materials, resources, and services were offered. They kept me updated so that nothing would become a surprise until and after closing. My inspector went in before the final walk through and was also deeply amazed by the quality of their work . He said, directly quote, "they did so good that it was actually off the chart." I will keep recommending Highland Homes to everyone who's considering building.

We absolutely love the quality of materials used for building our home. Cannot say enough of Garett, our builder. He is the most knowledgeable, professional, responsive, dedicated, flexible and customer obsessed we have ever seen. Despite being in seller’s market, we had a wonderful experience working with Garett. Even after we closed our home, he regularly checks and makes sure that everything works fine. Garrett never said no to anything, be it 4am Sunday morning he will be there for you. We are so glad that we chose Highland and Highland chose Garett for us!
