The entire experience was pain-free. All of our questions were answered timely and any work we needed to be done was completed well above our expectations. We highly recommend Highland Homes and this community!

I'll start with my wife was involved in the Sales portion of the house buying experience. That not surprisingly went off without a hitch. The financing portion of the sale was also amazing. Now is where everything starts to fall apart a bit. My wife put in our first warranty issue, and we still don't have a functioning video doorbell. We had a tech come out and get the garage door functional but not the camera after the first doorbell was replaced due to a humming sound. All other issues were fixed on her first ticket. Now is where I come into the fold. I started looking at various things around the house and was starting to find a lot of issues especially with the drywall. The other issues were cracked tile, paint, grout in the bathroom showers, carpet, and some other issues. The initial part of the process was handled within the time frame promised. The paint contractor and his wife came out multiple times to fix several issues throughout the house. The issue they are having to fix over and over are the cracks in the corners of just every room. He also fixed some other minor dry wall issues here and there. The grout issue took a week or more to get that person out. The plumber who came out was on top of his issues really quick and resolved them quickly. The real issue was taking 3 weeks to get a guy out to repair some cracked tile. He pulled the toilet and set it in the tub. Fixed the three cracked tiles originally reported one being under the toilet. Issue there were two more cracked tiles under the toilet that the plumber pointed out when he came to put the toilet back in. Another week or two goes by and they finally get back out to fix the other two tiles. I went out of town on vacation and the tub where the toilet was left is now damaged and will need to put in another ticket on that. The tubs were also left with grout all over them without exception. With the exception of the cabinet company, the low voltage company and the carpet company people have showed up unannounced to do a repair, not a huge issue for me as I am unemployed currently, but I would guess this would be a huge issue for people who are working outside the home. I was also consistently no showed when I was told somebody would be here to fix the issues. I feel a lot of my issues could have been resolved upfront with a better-quality control up front. Tough time to build and buy a new home. High prices with limited supplies and limited laborers. Our General Contractor, Dave, did a great job working through issues and working directly with us. Hard to believe we paid such a high price for the home and that’s no one’s fault it’s just the way it is in this current market.

We love the home, but now have those nit-pickey items that need to be finished. I hope Highland responds well. So far, so good

We had a great experience working with Highland Homes and the entire team at Santa Rita Ranch, including Amy, Jake, and Larry. They were kind, courteous, responsive, and made us feel heard throughout the process. There were some hiccups and long delays as a result of some construction team turnover, but we were able to work through those and are happy with the final product.

While ultimately, we believe that we made the right home purchase for us. the process needs some work. The salesman tells you that Highland Homes can't do certain things and then we find out that for other buyers they might/or will. They tend to blame things on the Developer to get out of doing things for the Buyer. The Builder tried very hard to accomodate us; but ultimately he's limited by what he's told he can or cannot do. The quality of work is lacking. They need to adopt a motto of 'doing it right the first time'. It's got to be costing them a lot of money to come back 3+ times on some issues (cleaning off the brick; having a poor choice of blinds on the back door; substandard work on the tile in the master shower; etc...). The grass they chose is a poor choice for a backyard that gets lots of shade; their landscaper told us so; yet the Salesman would not let us choose a better grass. The wood-look ceramic tile grout is not sealed; and if we seal it within the warranty period, the warranty is voided. The same thing applies to putting in dimmer switches; the warranty is voided. There was about a 3/4 to 1 inch gap between our front door and the door sill. It took nearly two months to get it fixed. We had to jam a small rug under the door to keep bugs and critters out. We were told that we had left over paint in our attic, but none was there. The list goes on. They are all friendly folks; but getting things done right the first time is not their strong suit. ... My homebuying process went smoothly, from beginning to end. Thank you highland for such a beautiful home and sticking to the contract. You guys are great to work with and I will definitely recommend to other potential buyers to check you guys out.

Home quality is good however ensure you have everything documented in black and white, don’t blindly trust year sales person. Don’t assume your builder knows everything. Example I had asked my builder to provide me security camera connections. When the builder says yes and added to the contract your basic assumption is they know the job. Later I found they gave me six 110 V power connections for the cameras whereas normally they should be providing network connections. Come on , in todays world who gives you 6 power connections for the cameras. I had to shell out additional 1200$ for getting the right items. Responses to items which should have been addressed before the house closing are still open after three months and no ETA at all. This is simply unacceptable. I’m not even referring to warranty request after moving into the house. No doubt the house is wonderful but ensure you have patience, document everything and do not rush for closing. Please note in my case the house was delayed for 4 months and Covid was not the reason which was always used as an excuse for every damm delay. If you ask me, will I recommend anyone to highland homes I will list out all the above items to the buyer and then decide accordingly. ... More

We lived in a 1904 Victorian home in a Chicago suburb and purchased a new Highland home in Texas. I loved my old vic.so this new home was going to be a huge adjustment for me and I was sad to leave my old home. Our new Highland home, I’ve fallen in love with quickly! The details in everything... a pantry door that shuts on its own so it doesn’t stay wide open if you forget to close it, sealed fold down windows to make cleaning easier, everything seems to line up perfect, the gap under the door so the rugs and carpet don’t make closing the door difficult, the design of the home, the front bedroom almost seems separate from the other rooms of the house for privacy, the selection of tile, backsplash, flooring, not to mention the workmanship of the tile work and floor work. I call myself a perfectionist.... this well built home has met that for me! The staff we worked with are amazing individuals. They seem to sincerely care about what they do and their homes. They are kind, informative, helpful and are quick to come to resolve if you have an issue our concern. ( Toilet squeak after a flush... plumber was out in a week or so to resolve, nothing major just water level sealing). Highland Homes has done all the hard labor to make us feel our home has been made with quality materials, it’s strong, meets our families needs and will last a lifetime for us. To me, Highland Homes takes pride in keeping their home building name at the top of those in the state of Texas. Now it’s our turn to make it a home. I love my new Texas home!! ... More

My experience with Highland to purchase my first home has been exceptional. Debby was great and answered all my questions before I was ready to jump in and was responsive all throughout the process. Jeff was great to work with and was always available when I had questions. He and Blake were very thorough in the walk through, which was appreciated since I have never dealt with most of this before. Jeff has also been great these first few months after I moved in and has quickly fixed any issues that have popped up (all minor). I would highly recommend Highland and will use them again if the opportunity comes up in the future! ... More

I purchased it recently and found the water leakage in the two-bedroom and still working on and not yet finished the work. so many defects in the home.

We should be compensated for having to manage the completion of our home, post closing. This is our third new home in four years and this is by far the worst experience. The build process, the attention to detail, the finished product upon delivery at closing was despicable. Had interest rate‘s not been rising we would have made them complete it but my gut is they’re impotent when it comes to fine detail and quality as they were known a few years ago. Three months in our kitchen is still unfinished, we are still pressing the construction team to complete items every day. We have been managing a spreadsheet of simple things. I understand that the tradesmen are a major issue but Highland should add more staff or employed directly to obtain the level of completion and detail that we expect on an $800,000 house. It is so bad in our new neighborhood that a group of Highland owners gathered in the street and talked about a class action lawsuit because of the quality, workmanship, and issues that we are finding in the property. Add to the mix all the homes under construction, the beer cans the trash, the trash, the trash and it’s obvious why our homes are not finished. When you walk a property in there are alcohol containers inside or on the outside such as our house and our neighbors house that is a clue. We feel like educated, experienced, reasonable buyers since we’ve done this with two companies over three new homes across for years. This process that is still unfinished three months after closing Has been the worst nine months in our marriage because we have argued in battles over should we stay or should we go and that continues on a daily basis and that is all due to Highland lack of attention to detail or respect for customers. We will never buy from them again and every person that I talk to I tell our experience and advise them to avoid Highland homes. I feel for their local sales reps and construction lead, the main organization should do more to help the employees serve the customer. I likened our experience to their previous manager when I said have you ever stood on the assembly line of your new dodge pick up and made sure that the corporation was putting every piece where it needed to go, every fit and finish with perfect? Do you get frustrated when you have to take your vehicle back for a recall? We have purchased something that is 14 times the value of your truck and yet on a daily basis we are having to manage the construction and completion of this home and you would never go for that for your new pick up. Overall a horrible experience, and I don’t get angry as I look at my kitchen countertop that is still incomplete, missing molding, while I make coffee Everywhere in this house to include barn doors that are 2 inches too small for the opening is a reminder that unless we argue, push, fight for what we paid for Island homes will do their best to take advantage of us. ... For the most part the home is very nice. Quite a few of the finishes are cheap for the price we paid for the home and we've needed lots of things fixed, straightened, touched up, or replaced already. Somethings are fixed quickly and others have taken a very long time. Double check the listing you buy from as well. Ours said the house would come with gutters...it didn't, a double oven, it didn't, and other things like this.

Was a good experience.. Maybe to be more clear on the process for those that do not have experience (it is our first house)

My builder promised me a beautiful home and Highland delivered on that promise! My home inspector said this was the highest quality new home he has seen in ages and actually thanked me (the buyer) for the great experience! My builder (David) was awesome, and office contact (Debbie) stayed in touch with me throughout the process. The insulation surpassed my expectations and the few problems we identified during the inspection, walk through, and after move in were fixed, or are in the process of being fixed. The quality of faucets, door knobs and light fixtures were builders' grade so I did update those after moving in. I have one suggestion for Highland and I did share it with my builder. I spent thousands extra for a free standing tub and frameless shower in the master bathroom - I consider them the centerpiece of the room. There were only two options available for finishes (polished or brushed chrome), but I wanted black or oil rubbed bronze. It is expensive and difficult to replace these items, and I wish Highland would have offered more options. Also, three holes were drilled in the free standing tub for the faucet and knobs, right in the middle, making it a little hard to get in and out of, and not the look I wanted. I would have gladly paid extra if I had been offered the option of putting a free standing faucet fixture in the corner on the floor, giving the appearance that I wanted with the spa tub. This issue was my only major disappointment. My realtor recommended Highland Homes as a high quality builder, and other than the one disappointment, I am very happy with my beautiful Highland Home!! ... More

Highland made the 'new home' process very easy. From the beginning, everyone involved was very responsive and available. Now that I am in the home, dealing with the warranty folks has been amazing. Again, the local supervisors are very responsive and they follow up to be sure everything is done to my satisfaction. Highland is truly a quality home-builder with top notch employees.

These are genuine individuals and they care a lot. We were blessed to work with all of them. Our entire process was very easy, and we are very thankful to have worked with them. We can’t thank them enough.

Overall my experience has been amazing. Love my new Home. Layne and Aaron are the best.

Worst customer service evern I have seen in my life

Home building is not an exact science right now. Be aware that even though you think you might have a date or expectation for completion that can change. Just know you should still expect weekly updates as the build progresses.

From initial contact to post-closing issue resolution, Highland has been great to work with. Would definitely recommend them. One suggestion: for the study/office, having a pre-wired (or more) Cat5 drop would be ideal. For those that work from home, hard-wiring the computer to internet connections is infinitely better.

We did a ton of research and walked through many homes under construction before deciding on Highland. Even before we ever spoke with a salesperson, we could tell their standard options and quality of materials was much better than the other builders we were considering, even builders whose homes started at a much higher price point. Before we pulled the trigger with Highland though, we asked other neighbors how they felt about their build experience with the various builders in our neighborhood, and Highland was the overwhelming favorite. We also know that so much of our positive experience is owed to our builder, Chase. 2021/2022 was/is a crazy time in the building industry. Chase was straightforward with us from the start that our build would likely take anywhere from 9-15 months due to a combination of material delays and labor shortages. As predicted, we hit a few bumps along the way, but he always kept us in the loop. Not once did we have to reach out and ask for a status update. He sent us weekly reports of completed progress and what was coming next. Even when he had nothing to report, he would still check in to let us know why this or that was delayed, and when he expected to start moving forward again. In the end, our build took 13 months to complete, which is pretty impressive considering the supply chain issues plaguing the world at the time. All of our questions and concerns along the way were very quickly addressed by both Chase and our salesperson Anna. They could not have been more patient or accommodating with us. And in the almost 3 months since we closed on our house, Highland has been quick to inspect or remedy the couple of minor issues we have brought to their attention. I am reasonably disappointed with our home. I DO NOT think we got what we paid for. I have owned a number of homes over the years, several of them were new construction homes like this one. While this one was the most expensive by double, it was the least well constructed. Too many cost-cutting measures. As an example, for a home that cost over $750,000, EVERY home on our block has the exact same outdoor fixtures (excluding doors which are an option). The master bedroom closet is well appointed but the poles that hold hangers are extremely cheap and skinny 3/4 inch diameter instead of 1-1/2 inch wood poles as would be expected in a home of this price. It appears that subcontractors are either required or encouraged to slap their parts of the house together as quickly and cheaply as they can, and then they ARE PAID to come back and fix mistakes later. Tell me how this doesn't always end in the subcontractor being financially encouraged to screw up. We had to have nearly the entire roof replaced prior to closing due to just this kind of effort. The home is turned over to you in a manner described by the supervisor as "Contractor Clean" (His words and this was related to me by my neighbors as well). I would not want to live in a home with a contractor if this is the case. Just cleaning my floors required 4-5 hours with a Swifter and an entire box of Swifter pads. It was filthy. One of the guest bathroom tubs had a dent with rust in it prior to mounting COMPLETELY installed with tile around it so of course when shown prior to closing, all of the tile had to be removed in order to replace it. Two months after closing, we are still having to get things repaired not because they have failed, but simply because they were allowed to be left uncorrected. Outdoor fence was installed with only one nail on each support, randomly placed and disrepair a guaranteed occurrence with the first wind. I have never, ever had a home this poorly constructed. EVER. To their credit, the sales rep and the construction supervisor have a positive attitude and do make the effort to assist us but the people who make decisions over this process are clearly overpaid and underqualified. ... By purchasing the model home. We did find some odds and ends that was damage which we understood because the house was a model home. But the garage was new and broke in a couple weeks. I can say Highland did not Wasted no time making sure the contractor took care of it ASAP. Other then that we love our home.
