Our overall experience with Highland Homes has been amazing. The team that includes Lesli and Seth have been awesome on every level of us buying our wonderful home. However, we had one issue that has stained our overall experience with Highlands homes. We moved into our home only to find out that we had a rat/mice infestation in the walls and attic of our home within the first week of moving in. A total of 7 rats/mice have been caught since and we believe there are more. My wife and I have lost sleep and our disappointment over the noise and interruption of our daily lives due to the infestation has only made matters worse. And while Lesli and Seth were amazing in responding to our issues regarding this matter, Highland Homes did not compensate us for the emotional damage as well as the loss of value dealing with this mice/rat infestation. They did offer to put us up in a hotel, but we didn't need that as we have friends in the area. We simply wanted some type of monetary value for the issues we dealt with and are continuing to deal with as it relates to the infestation. Our lives have been severally impacted and disrupted with this issue. We've had to cut open our walls to insert rat/mice traps, we had to have a pest guy visit every week on the hour to inspect what is going on. We even had holes outside of our home that were discovered by the pest guy after we moved in that needed to be closed and patched up properly. This should never happen to a homeowner who has spent nearly $1Million dollars to buy their home. It made my wife and I feel as though we weren't valued and or listened to regarding the time we have had to deal with on this issue. Our new home experience has been marred and difficult since we moved in. I only wish that we had selected another home now due to the experience we've suffered through due to the rat/mice infestation that we continue to deal with. I'm a little embarrassed to show off our home to our guest and family members as well as gush over the home with our new neighbors due to our rat/mice infestation problem. Again, this is not a reflection on Seth or Lesli. They have been great leading up to the buying experience of our home. Since we've moved in, the infestation has been a nightmare. I only pray that no other homeowner goes through what we have gone through. We will continue to grin and bare this experience that has not been fun to deal with unil all rats/mice are removed and sounds within our home dissipate. ... More

We are pleased with the overall results of the long / arduous / frustrating process. Having said that, one major takeaway is this: the outsourcing of the design meeting (IBB) and the electric meeting (InCharge) has had a very negative impact on the timeliness, professionalism, and overall quality of the experience that people have come to know and expect from Highland Homes. It's not the same anymore, unfortunately.

I was not as happy with the quality of my Highland home as I was my last one. The mason work was sloppy and the cabinet work was also not the best. My sales person was non-existent, only talked to him 3 times during the process. Didn’t help advise and wanted upgrades but were not aware. Our contractor Alex was amazing. The closing was painless. Overall I would say average to moderate experience.

Overall our house is beautiful. Several issues that i need to mention. Building it took a year to finish( delays due to HOA not approving our choices of exterior color of bricks). Safety issues during the actual building of the house such as sheet racks not properly piled and nails lying on the floors. Upon moving in several bathtub faucets are loose and one was actually leaking. Wirings for internet was not working ( was spliced during construction). Doorbell was put to low for cameras to be installed and wires were knicked and touching each other that apparently caused chime box to short circuit and almost causing a fire. Cracks on both 1 car and 2 car garages seem to getting bigger. Home pro security key pad not sensing all the sensors in the house 1 day after it was installed so as of this time we have no security alarm when doors and windows are opened and it takes 1 month to schedule repairs .Jim has been very receptive to all of these issues but for the price of the house most of these issues should not happen in my opinion. Highland Homes passed the buck for not having Internet to the Developer. Either way they should have been able to make sure that their new residents get Internet, a basic necessity for work from home folks. They didn't provide any alternatives for this either and their contract states that they are not responsible for making sure Internet is available at their homes. Apart from that they have been very responsive to fix things, and their workmanship seems above average. They charge extra considerably for having rocker switches instead of the toggle switches ($650), adding recessed lights in the bedrooms that should have been included in the original price. Most importantly, one of the windows needed re-glazing and they removed the window to measure it but did not seal it back with silicone due to their negligence. This heavy window fell inwards due to the wind m and almost missed my wife and infant baby by seconds! Would have paid a huge price due their negligence and we just got lucky. Still angry about this incident. The window smashed in so hard that it would have been fatal to my infant and wife. There is no lock on the owner's bathroom, and apparently this is standard with their plan. Any toddler or pet can just push the door open. Apart from all of the above, the house has good finishing. But the window incident and the lack of internet have soured our experience greatly. ... More

We love the floorplan and how the home looks, but it was not finished by the closing time despite all the promises and now almost months after closing we still have unfinished items. I spent tons of time following up with the manager on finishing it and very frustrated with it. Thq quality of finishing is another point of frustration. There is no attention to details, a lot of stuff done roughly, uneven, with spots, sharp edges dents, scratches, etc. The builder didn't care about fixing it unless we insist

Communication was not always good including the lack of consistent, periodic updates on construction status and warranty work. Some subcontractors were good, others were sloppy and unreliable.

I truly wish I could provide a more positive review, however, I think due to the timing of my build/purchase, my Highland experience was less than expected. I was aware of Highland's reputation as a quality builder, positive reviews per research I did, and recommendation from realtor, so I focused on purchasing a Highland home. Due to several issues, I'm running into now, I believe the building of my home was "rushed" and that certain quality control mechanisms were missed. I do attribute some of these issues due to building demand and market conditions during the Q2-Q3'2022 timeframe. However, based on Highland's reputation combined with the price I was paying for the house, I expected a more positive experience. General issues included missed due dates for installations/repairs, lack of proactive notifications and follow up (I usually was reaching out to either the sales team or project coordinator for updates), continued unresolved repair issues. Part of the problem may be due to lack of subcontractor control and volume of business with resources being spread very thin. Unfortunately, I felt I was unnecessarily caught in the middle and that I was not a priority for the team hence the low rating. ... More

Builder made promises at the time of closing that they have not fulfilled close to 3 months after closing. Bathroom cabinets are broken, missing fixtures, unpainted items, etc.

Our family fell in love with Highland's floor plans and overall design. It was different from the other model homes we visited. After a long fail attempt of trying to purchase a home we decided to just build a new construction. Glenn was great from the beginning, he made us feel really comfortable and we felt really good with starting the process. Unfortunately we had a major delay with CenterPoint, as frustrating as it was we understand it wasn't Highlands fault. What we feel like was Highlands fault is that the craftmanship wasn't up to their standard. The house sat for months with imperfections that could of been address instead of when we moved in. Sheetrock and paint has been a horrible experience. We are extremely disappointed. Sheet rock was poorly done, we had waves, lines weren't straight, uneven texture throughout the whole home. You would think since the walls are textured they would be able to hide how imperfect the walls were, but nope we literally can see where all the walls were joined. I would like to think after paying so much for a home, that if they can't get it perfect it would at least come close to being perfect. We've been to homes that close half of what ours cost and their walls and paint didn't have any imperfection, because yes we are the type to look for things like that. We have base boards and door trims that look like they have a bunch of dings and a fail attempt to patch it. My door trims around look like it has acne and paint to patch it up like make-up. We were extremely proud to have Highland be our builder, but now we wouldn't recommend anyone purchasing a Highland Home. We love our house but do feel for the craftsmanship, we extremely over paid. ... More

Highland has excellent customer service, but the workers they use will cut every corner and leave your brand new home unfinished and looking like a home 1/3rd the price. Micromanaging every aspect of the build is required and even then more mistakes are made. This is acceptable according to them in this current labor market. Wife, daughter, baby and I have even had to relocate to a hotel(covered by Highland), so they could fix issues, 1 of which was a HUGE saftey violation nearly 1.5mos after closing. Im sure Im just the outlier here as Highland is one of tbe best, but it doesn’t change the face that my family suffers after making the biggest purchase of my life. ... More

Love the house. A lot of small things needed to be fixed.

Although I love the house and the location , the overall moving process lacked in several areas. The exterior of the house is different than the one we thought it would be. We only found out about that later in the process. When we received our closing date, we thought everything would be ready for the move in date but it wasn’t. We did the final walkthrough one day before closing and noticed that there were items missing, like Mirrors, Shower Window, Door bell and Oven vents. Our builder did tell us that we had the option of postponing the move in date or have these things added before we moved. At that point everything was already scheduled to move in so that wasn’t an option for us. The day of our move in, the house was nasty dirty. Like dust on the bathroom drawers , counters, etc. it looks like their cleaning crew came to clean the floors only. Our builder did stay on top of things after we moved and got everything that was missing and communication was great! We know the market has been crazy of late and labor is scarce so we totally understand why those things happened but definitely wished we were told of it before that that was a possibility . Besides that, I would buy it from them again, but would definitely be more active through the process in asking updates. ... More

Overall my home is good, but the paint job is just very poor. I did use the entire roll of blue tape at the walk thru. Touch ups were done incorrectly and my experience with the painters did ruin my excitement for my new home.

Disappointed in the lack of attention to detail in workmanship. Builders rep has been responsive, but the quantity of discrepancies and the duration of time to remedy them has been frustrating. Some repairs have caused the need for subsequent repairs which have not been addressed. Unfortunately I would not recommend Highland Homes to others.

The actual buying process was ridiculous. The sales agent was not informed, and what’s worse didn’t appear to care if she didn’t have correct, timely or complete information. The home design is lovely. The light, the layout and the function is beautiful. If there was less upper loft area, which could be dedicated to larger second bedrooms, the plan would be fantastic. The workmanship behind the walls seems to be competent. The finish work is bad, among the worst I’ve seen. Looking at the details of finish, you would think the subcontractors do not care about their work. Additionally, they do little to protect their, or others, work, so many parts need to be replaced or redone. Having said that, the responsiveness of the warranty team has been terrific, thus far. We may not always agree about things that need to be addressed, but they are always courteous and show care. Hopefully that will continue as we move forward. They have turned a rather sour process into a positive relationship. ... More

I was a first time home buyer. For the most part things went smoothly. I feel the sales department was pushy at the beginning. They also didn’t communicate very well through the entire process, there was little to no reach out by them. The home was done but many things had to be touched up after we moved in.

I want to start off by saying that everyone we have worked with at Highland has been phenomenal -- Juan (builder), Kathi and team (front office), both Brians (one helping with issue resolution and one a customer service rep). This is the first home we've built, and the entire time was helpful, informative, responsive, and very kind. We couldn't have asked for a better group of people to work with. We are concerned about the quality of our home and hope we made a good decision investing in a Highland Home. When you purchase a Highland Home, you know you will pay more for quality. We have heard nothing but great things about Highland prior to buying our new home. We have had more issues than we would have liked with our home. We have had to file several warranty claims, mostly for minor items, but things you would expect to not have to worry about in a new home. I understand the current state of things has likely made it more challenging -- there are less laborers available and supplies have been tight. However, we feel there could have been more quality control checks in the process to help resolve some of these issues before we moved in. Any Warranty request we have submitted has been resolved in a timely manner, so we cannot complain about that. We are looking forward to getting all items taken care of via the Warranty process and we hope to enjoy our home for years to come. ... More

Highland Homes builds beautiful homes. Workmanship issues with various crews and insufficient quality control resulted in many issues. However, Highland Homes does attempt to resolve the issues. The process is slow but steady.

Due to delay in construction many of the interior trim materials are water damaged and will need to be replaced. Cabinet work is very poor in quality and workmanship in installation is bad. Numerous issues with doors, and paint and texture on walls. Construction team ran a vehicle into the brick on the side of the garage and the frame is still split. and brickwork is wonky. Door handle on the half bath was reversed. Wrong bathroom fixtures were installed and replacement was so dangerous that we purchased and installed our own due to possible injury to children. It took 8 months to build and I went through multiple construction managers. There wasn’t transparency during the process and my closing date changed due to delays. Communication was not the best and the sales agent was helpful at the beginning but after the sales contract was signed, she was no longer useful or informative about what was going on. Overall, the design process was the best part of purchasing my home.

So many things still need repair as we closed before all work was completed properly due to rising interest rates. Plumbing failed within 4 weeks of moving in and backed up into the bathrooms. Shane is on top of these things and I will be happier when all of the work is completed, but for the price point on this home, I expected things to be much better.

Love our home but there are few issues I would loved to have addressed. After moving in we found a couple of minor flaws that I wish we could have fixed. For example, our driveway and pathway to our front door is not great. There are small imprints that are visible in the concrete. In our hallway, we have two light switches that control the same light. One of the switches should control the kitchen light. I was not aware of this issue at the time of our walkthrough. I was also not aware that I could have asked to have the driveway repaired prior to moving in. These are basically the only two issues I have with our home. While ultimately, we believe that we made the right home purchase for us. the process needs some work. The salesman tells you that Highland Homes can't do certain things and then we find out that for other buyers they might/or will. They tend to blame things on the Developer to get out of doing things for the Buyer. The Builder tried very hard to accomodate us; but ultimately he's limited by what he's told he can or cannot do. The quality of work is lacking. They need to adopt a motto of 'doing it right the first time'. It's got to be costing them a lot of money to come back 3+ times on some issues (cleaning off the brick; having a poor choice of blinds on the back door; substandard work on the tile in the master shower; etc...). The grass they chose is a poor choice for a backyard that gets lots of shade; their landscaper told us so; yet the Salesman would not let us choose a better grass. The wood-look ceramic tile grout is not sealed; and if we seal it within the warranty period, the warranty is voided. The same thing applies to putting in dimmer switches; the warranty is voided. There was about a 3/4 to 1 inch gap between our front door and the door sill. It took nearly two months to get it fixed. We had to jam a small rug under the door to keep bugs and critters out. We were told that we had left over paint in our attic, but none was there. The list goes on. They are all friendly folks; but getting things done right the first time is not their strong suit. ... Although Highland is traditionally known as a high quality home builder, our experience was underwhelming. In the end the same trades work on all the houses, so the quality is really driven by supervising the trades closely. Unfortunately that didn't happen in our case. In fact, I don't think we have a straight wall in the entire house. We also just discovered our kitchen island and related countertops aren't level. Those sorts of things shouldn't be issues from any builder, especially one like Highland.
