Due to the workmanship and materials for my new home, I will not recommend others to build house with HighlandHome.

Too many issues to write about. We definitely wouldn’t choose Highland Homes again.

Cabinet person had and awful disrespectful attitude

I don't think our home should have been sold in its current state. All of the initial responders to our problems are gone, we are getting a slow response to repairs and the home is incomplete.

I assume because the rush, the home finishes are not god. ceiling shapes out of alignement, a lot doors handle loosed, some paint finishes in bad shaoe, paint drops in some places. The grass planted came wit a lot of herbs on it. Precesence of ants even into home detected few days after moving.

Poor paint quality, poor trim work, poor wall texture, bad cabinets. Moved in after 15 month wait, and still incomplete. It's a beautiful plan and a very nice area. Just, quality, from a highly expensive builder. Expectations are low.

-Lack of updates/ inaccurate and incorrect updates throughout the entire home building experience. -Constant follow-ups to inform the builder of the inaccuracies provided. -Treated disrespectfully and blown off. -Pointed out several issues prior to move-in that I was assured would be taken care of. (They weren’t when I moved in and I received no communications. I had to escalate and inform the necessary individuals of what the issues were and escalations continue.) -Issues with the AC leaking and a Gas Leak happened during first few weeks of move in. -Continued issues outstanding to date and the amount of follow-up/time spent on issues that should have been done correctly is mind boggling. -Many individuals within the same neighborhood have the same exact experiences and concerns -Horrible workmanship with no one double checking that things were done correctly. -Issues included on inspection report prior to move -in weren’t taken care of before I moved in. These remain outstanding. -Continue to find items that have failed to be done correctly regularly. Face value, it is a beautiful home. However, when you do your due diligence you find that the workmanship and information you have been provided fails to be accurate. Be ready for a fight for what is right and many many hours of your personal time invested having to work through items that should have been done correctly the first time. ... More

Do not close in December. We were rushed to close for the end of the year even tho we new there was a lot to fix. These issues/workorders took months to complete. If i was to do it again, i would wait until the house was 100%. With the rush, there was a lot of poor craftsmanship. To the point we regret buying our family home.

If you’re considering purchasing a Highland Home, I hope you’re reading this review in time to change your mind. In fairness, we purchased our home in Sienna Plantation and our neighbors have similar complaints, but we know others who own Highland Homes in other communities and are satisfied with their purchase. From start to finish, but especially at the finish, Highland was less than impressive. From our salesman giving us incorrect information to our home not matching the elevation we agreed to and ending with very poor craftsmanship, this house is nothing but a headache. I wish I could include pictures to show you, but here are some examples: multiple fans wobbled upon move in and had to be serviced multiple times, there are paint drips and smudges everywhere, paint splatter dots all over the floors, caulk all over the place, many, many, many cracks and openings in the trim and floor including a hole in the wall that was concealed by a support leg for our counter top, tile floor was installed with too shallow grout and had to be redone, shower floor was installed with very inconsistent spacing between tiles and and had to be redone, instead of cutting small pieces of tile to fit into the corners of our master bath, the installer filled those corners with big swipes of grout, grout and black wash from the tile installation is smudged all over the white trim in the bathroom, tile around the tub is poorly installed, especially at the edges, cooktop was installed at an angle in the kitchen, Silestone was the promoted quartz material at the design center, but our actual brand was a no-name, despite our sale agreement specifically listing Silestone, our backyard is a sopping mess and finally, the most egregious: we have RIGIDCORE installed in the majority of our house and the entire floor needs to be replaced. This is a floating floor product and the installers did not evenly spread the float beneath the floor, causing pieces of the floor to “touch down” to the concrete below and gaps between the floor and trim. Additionally, they installed the boards too tight with no margin on the edges for expansion, so our entire floor has peaks and valleys; in the sunlight, it truly looks like it’s a wave. The corners of the boards are chipping across the entire floor because of this. Some of these issues were noted prior to move in, but some we discovered after living here for a few months. Highland fails to hold their trade partners to a high standard and the builders fail to recognize these issues independently; it’s up to you to note all these flaws. Highland promotes that they have exceptional customer service and I would agree that they are quick to respond to items outside of “warranty”, but then drag their feet to get the work done. I would personally rather have a house that doesn’t have these issues instead of spending an absorbent amount of time trying to get them fixed with “excellent customer service.” ... More

Relocating from out of state meant we needed stronger and faster response on queries we had about the home, statuses, changes/modifications, etc. Buying process was difficult, too much confusion between Highlands (due to a lack of prompt communication), their chosen Title Company and our bank (a major credit union); this was quite a stressful situation on top of our relocation. Title company apparently made a last minute mistake on a closing doc, and we almost missed getting keys to the house on time. Literally had to sit in their offices until they corrected the issue, and they were close to closing for the day. Highlands takes the blame on that because they chose them to run Title; perhaps Highlands should look into a better title company. Moving in was rushed (lots of outstanding problems the day we took keys). Several warranty issues and “blue-tape items” persist even to this day, about 90 days after move-in. Highlands wouldn’t help with any repairs due to the winter storm. Ice Dam or other roofing issue caused interior leak on the house (60 days after moving in). Ice Dams could be caused by poor attic insulation, but despite this, Highlands won’t help or warranty the problem. Really poor experience given we just moved in here. I understand the severity of the winter storm, but we should not be experiencing ice dam problems or roofing issues 60 days after we took keys. Not acceptable. We intend on writing their corporate offices. For what we paid for the home, I definitely expect more. Almost 90 days living here and I still don’t have basic items (“paint kit”, etc) when buying a new home, and several issues are still outstanding warranty-wise. The one thing they did do well during construction was the additions we asked for. Those were well executed (water softener line, and other electrical). That said, it doesn’t make up for the rest of the experience we went through, and I can’t say my wife or I are happy with Highlands (quite upset overall actually). I have owned many new homes from different builders and this has been the one with the worst quality of build.

Poor service. Poor workmanship. Not a pleasant experience.

Overall I am happy with my Highland Home. However, the whole process of building the home was disappointing and unorganized. There were several things in the house that were installed wrong and took a lot of effort and time to get fixed. I realized this was an imperfect process but the amount of issues that arose throughout the build (which usually were caught by my dad who is an architect and not the contractor) made me feel like I was getting taken advantage of. As this is my first home, I was extremely excited to get my keys and officially be a homeowner! However, when I moved into my home, someone had locked my thermostat at 80 which was not fun moving in the middle of July in Texas. Since my contractor was out of the office, my thermostat remained locked for days. Again, I was left feeling under valued. I will say, Tracy, from the sales office completely made my experience. She made my first home buying experience special and made me feel valued for my business. She was actually the one who came to the rescue when my thermostat was locked. She went above and beyond and was taking on roles that were not hers...she is fantastic! ... More

The workmanship is absolutely terrible. The subcontractors that actually build this houses don't care about what they are doing. There is trash everywhere. Beer bottles galore. One trade builds something and the next trade breaks or damages it. It's your average built house. They could do better.

Highland Homes may have built it’s better reputation in the early 2000’s for innovative, functional and almost high end quality materials. But in the recent years it’s quality and workmanship seems to be faltering. It’s been 86 days in our new house and there are already numerous issues of workmanship and quality of products installed. Had it not been with the construction manager and sales agent. I would rated it 1 star.

We purchased our Highland Home on a 70-foot lot in the La Cima community. While the home is visually attractive, we do not believe it was worth the price paid. Our appraisal came in below the contract price, and Highland strongly contested it, relying on trade adjustments rather than true comparable market sales to justify the higher value. There were also construction issues that should never occur at this price point. The exterior brick was installed incorrectly — set inside the foundation edges rather than flush or evenly overhanging — which resulted in a loss of interior square footage. We paid for several upgrades, yet every upgraded feature had quality issues. For example, the upgraded soft-close cabinets (a feature that is standard even in many lower-end builds) were poorly constructed and remain an ongoing issue to correct. The drywall and paint work throughout the home were subpar, with visible imperfections everywhere. The flooring appeared rushed and shortcuts were taken, including the use of quarter rounds to conceal poor workmanship. When those quarter rounds were later painted, paint was splattered onto the flooring, requiring multiple planks to be replaced. Overall, attention to detail was clearly lacking. The home felt rushed to meet closing deadlines rather than properly finished. Electrical outlets and switches were placed inconsistently or impractically. Doors consistently creak. Concrete work throughout the property looks unfinished and careless. Additionally, Highland offered a smart-home package to buyers who paid less than we did, then informed us midway through construction that the package was no longer available to us. Low-voltage wiring was improperly placed, incompatible, or missing altogether. While not legally required, we believe Highland had an ethical responsibility to disclose known safety concerns or potentially dangerous conditions or individuals in the area, which was not done. Based on our experience only and on our opinion only, we would not choose Highland Homes again and would advise prospective buyers to thoroughly inspect workmanship, upgrades, and pricing justification before proceeding. ... I'm not going to spend much time here because I doubt they'll allow this to be posted. My home was rushed by the builder, not me. I was actually saying I'm fine with the expected delivery date. The builder wanted to meet their numbers for the year and pulled my home in by several months. There have been a few issues as a result of the short build window as well as some expected issues. In both cases, I would be fine if they were fixed in a timely manner. Instead the average time is around three weeks. Some issues never responded to at all. I paid for some extra things that aren't currently usable. Now that I'm here, I learned I'll have to spend more money to actually use those items. Completely unacceptable. The sales office was an outstanding experience. That was very nice. I'm glad part of this was enjoyable, but ultimately it all has to be there and Highland just dropped the ball on my home. ... More

We have had issue after issue. Some of our service requests have been submitted multiple times. We have received a faulty water faucet a total of 3 times! We have still not received our gold lighting that was in our signed contract after 3 months of being in our home. Our roof leaked after the snow day which left our ceiling stained. The buying experience was great but the service sucks! I gave it two stars because our sales consultant was wonderful. It’s after buying the home that’s been the most stressful! This home cost too much money to have this many problems.

I paid the full price for the home, including all items that were supposed to be included in the price. However, many things were not installed, such as fans and lights. The fence planning was completely mishandled, and the retaining wall was either not built or left incomplete. Additionally, I found several issues with the AC, drainage, tiles, doors, and more. I'm very dissatisfied with the price, especially since it's over $100k higher than homes in other communities built by the same builder within Dallas city. Well there were many excuses. Change of builders, weather, rushing/more time, etc. They literally built my garage in the wrong spot and then messed up the island. Luckily we caught the island in time to fix it. But I now have a garage that is not functioning the way I needed it to be. The tile for backsplash was awful. There are holes and missing paint throughout the house. Fixtures were the wrong color. The quality assurance didn’t happen. Literally no one walked the house and tried to fix anything before we showed up they just built it and let us move in. We had a leak in the bathroom the first week. Not sure if they thought they could do a crap job because we weren’t in town to watch their every move but they are having to pay for it now. And it’s super frustrating to be living in construction, when it was supposed to be completed. Thea was knowledgeable and responsive and if she didn’t know she tried to find out asap. ... More

This has been one of the worst home building experiences I’ve ever had or heard of. Nothing but issues all around and it’s taking weeks to get resolutions. When one thing is fixed, something else comes up. I don’t understand how this company is rated “high” when I’ve had nothing but problems. Home was poorly crafted and rushed to be completed.

We were excited to build a new home. But when we moved in, there were several items that were not completed. The house was not cleaned at all except for the carpets which had mud stains. They should have not been stained by workers. We had to clean the garage, which was filthy, and the attic was supposed to be straightened but not done. We pointed out that there was paint on the floor but that was not cleaned moving into the house. We had to do all that work that should have been done before we moved. The driveway was covered in oil paint from the house next door. The workers should be informed that these are expensive properties and care should be used while working on house to prevent damage. They do not take care when doing their job like getting paint on the new flooring. Also, our property should have been power washed before closing. We had our work-through and taped "bad" spots on the walls, but they did not fix until over a week later. Several pieces of the tape fell off, so they ended up not being fix. In fact, some of the items we pointed out were not finished the day before closing. We pointed out stuff before closing that needed to be done (and said was done) but later found out it was not done. After closing, we let the contractor know some problem issues. We had pointed out before closing, 2 bushes were dead, so they needed to be replaced when the water ban was lifted. These were eventually replaced but think that the landscaping should have been watered or not put in until water ban was lifted. We had several issues that had to be fixed. Our vanity lights were not installed before moving in. The lights came in and under the LED lights, the wall was not painted and textured, which we asked if it was done so the lights could be installed when they came in. It was an additional 2 weeks before the wall was fixed so the lights could be installed. We had to fight to finish the bad paint job. We were told we had been given the opportunity to QC the house, so it was our problem. We are paying 700,000 for a house and think that the builders should QC their homes. We pointed out that they did not paint house right after we QC'd and tape came off. They had sent painters, but we were not informed they were coming. They ran in, slapped some paint on, and ran out. We did not have chance to point out spots they missed. After bringing up our point, new painters came out and they did an excellent job. We also had an issue we pointed out before closing that was not addressed until a month plus later. There was a piece of trim in the master bathroom the was not finished. It cutoff at a very sharp angle. We asked that to be fixed but it took long time to get addressed. There were many minor issues. Some took a long time to get addressed after bringing them up, so I ended up entering warranty issues so that they could be addressed. After that, things got addressed and there are no outstanding issues. As far as what we requested, we ordered a lighting package, but it was discontinued. The new lighting came with a single pendant light. We wanted three pendant lights so builder ordered pendants from another lighting package that had 3 pendants. We are very happy with those pendant lights. But we were supposed to have an extra outlet in the garage between the two garage doors, but it was put in the back of the garage where we cannot use it. It was supposed to be near the front so we can use power tools to work on projects. Lastly, the quality of construction is poor. Being that we are from a strong union state, our standards may be higher than here. The fence is new but most of the nails are not nailed into the studs and will need to be re-nailed. The windows are not even. House seems like it was "eye-balled" instead of making sure it was level and plumb. We are happy with our floor plan and our design choices. But we would probably not recommend Highland Homes since their quality of work is low and they do not turn over a clean house. ... More

Going into buying a home, we were thrilled to choose Highland Homes. After the process we have gone through I would not recommend to anyone based on quality of workmanship and repetitive issues with work being incomplete or done poorly. Overall a very poor experience.

We had heard only good things about Highland, so we were excited about our new home purchase. However, we've had nothing but issues with the house since closing. We've had at least 6 work orders for repairs on items that were not installed correctly, already broken, or just plain shoddy craftsmanship. Flooring that's come apart, cracked tile and leaking in the showers, carpet that is not nailed down and is exposing wood underneath, dishwasher with no proper padding or insulation, uneven walls and baseboards throughout, bent air vents, broken window latches, uneven flooring with lumps throughout the carpeted areas. We find new items each day. It is clear now that the house was built as quickly as possible, with little to no attention to the details that make buying a new home so rewarding. I don't think we would ever purchase a Highland home again knowing what we know now. Cheap labor + fast build + poor products in the home = a really disappointed buyer who now has to keep pouring money into an already expensive home. Too many issues not built for durability. Lots of issues with sheet rock finish, trim finish, leve 1 quartz had finish issues, door handles keeps poping out, concrete finish is sub par. Overall thry just using the brand and contractors they used to built homes is not doing good job
