I purchased a speck home that was already designed. Color scheme chose was pretty. Disappointed in a lot of the workman ship in the home however.

1 - Sales experience was great. 2 - Communication during the build process was poor and items that were discussed during sale did not happen during the build. Some of the problems were eventually solved but it was a struggle. 3 - The structural quality of the home is great but some of the finish work was poor (paint, cupboard paint, caulking, tile work, clogged drains)

Keep ose eyes on the building phase, the attention to detail is lacking. For instance: we were assured that the drywall installers used screws instead of nails. I personally saw them pound all the screws inime nails.. No one is keeping track of the vendor work as far as I can tell.

I would just make sure to details. After a month being in our home we noticed more faults. For example we have several cracked tile pieces, cocking missing, sheetrock mistakes. I was not completely happy with my buy if I would do it again I would pay way more attention to details.

I think the quality of materials and workmanship could be improved, especially for the price point. Also there were some pretty obvious issues that were not addressed until I said something, which makes me feel like they were hoping I wouldn’t notice so they wouldn’t have to redo it. There should be a standard of excellence from the builder that contractors understand and comply with or face some kind of consequence. I felt there were too many issues that needed addressing during the walk through and afterward. Because of the price of the home, I do wish higher quality materials would’ve been used such as paint, baseboards, flooring, and faucets. The house is alright. We closed fast and the house was behind schedule. We were promised things would be fixed quickly as we found them but we have found that is not always the case and have had to push to get things fixed.

We moved up our closing date on our home based on Highland saying they would be done earlier than we thought they would. Big mistake. They did not complete in time and we had no where to go and moved in. Still not done with issues and we have been here for 2 months. Not the way we planned. Cabinet company came out in about two weeks and hasn't been back in 6-7 weeks- forget holidays, we are just fed up - that is only one thing that is not fixed/completed. Only move in if completely done and hope you have no issues. I will never move around the holidays again and never take a builders word for when they will complete a home - I will wait and wait and wait to close for never having these headaches and that builder will need to wait on me and will understand since we have this story to tell. The quality of the home is very good for what was done and the sales rep was great but I can not handle the ups and downs again. I have been home since we are still in Covid protocol and that is the one thing saving us for whenever people can come, I am here to get things checked off our very long of things that need to be done. Trust me, this review is being nice since our frustrations run so high but "it is what it is" as a friend of ours always says. We just deal with it. We spent a good amount of money on our home and when we finally moved in, we were and still are disappointed by how many issues we are having in the home already. We have only lived there for two months. The quality of work is subpar. It seems like they rushed the job at the end and used subpar materials to get the job done. Perhaps they didn’t have access to the better materials due to COVID but that shouldn’t result in our home already have cracks in the paint and doors not being able to be closed and opened correctly, including the front main door. The tubs are already peeling. The caulking in many areas are embarrassing. The bathroom tiles that we paid extra to upgrade are uneven. There’s a lot of cosmetic issues with the painting they did in the house. We are still working on a list of things that need to be corrected. The issue is it’s hard to be home every time to have things fixed. But overall, it’s disappointing to have spent over 8 months anticipating our new home and still have to keep going back and requesting things be fixed. ... More

But because of the home being built so quickly, there were many things that were overlooked. Our two main upgrades (Lot size & master shower) were not completed to our liking and we are still resolving these issues. Also the sprinkler system was set up prior to moving in and it was set to run three times a day, every day and our first water bill was almost $900. It would have been nice to know that issue before moving in. Very frustrating!

Could have been better with details and craftsmanship, unfortunately it didn’t turn out exactly as we wanted but “good enough” which is kind of the running theme on some things. In some ways they were very radon’s ice but then they’d disappear with no communication. In the end a couple of big things were missing/didn’t turn out right and I’m tired of having to call them out to fix things.

House quality is great but there are always some of what I would call normal things that pass through during inspection that we have to open warranty claims to get it fixed. And the response time is not ideal... Sometimes the builder will try to push you an easy solution for you to fix or take advantage of your lack of technical knowledge... Having a hard time to have the builder recognizing that my backyard mow has a lots of imperfections which my 3 yrs old son twisted his ankle due to holes between grass sods. Also there are several types of grass so the backyard grass is all colored with different types of green and grass textures as well. Had issues with backsplash installation as well... After many attempts they did it right although I had to accept few minor defects as I was already of people coming to my place after I moved in. ... More

Home was clean when I moved in and ready for me to take over. The service from our PM was great however after we moved in several items came to light that needed attention. Our PM had the small items corrected in no time but the items left on the list have not been corrected such as our dishwasher issue with the hot water needed to clean the dishes etc. Hot water takes too long to get to the master shower and dishwasher so we have a lot of wasted water etc. You cannot foresee these underling issues before you close. After my investigation on this issue all of the highland homes have this issue in Liberty addition. I have called Rheem and explained the issue and found out that highland should have installed a recirculation pump to resolve this issue. My PM spoke with him boss and told him Highland has had this issue for the last ten years etc. S you can see where this is headed! ... More

We moved in December and already experiencing issues of poor workmanship. The houses in this neighborhood are so close to each other and the house which is getting built after we moved in has window directly facing our window. With houses being so close to each other, more thought should have been put to not have neighbors window face each other. Flooring is cheap wood and not perfect for a new home. Would love to provide more details when contacted.

I really like the home and overall it has good quality. There is one part which is not addressed properly. My master-bath granite counter-tops are really rough and does not look a quality product. I had raised this issue to all involved in the home process since the day it was installed, however, I was just told that this is how granite comes. I would really appreciate if they replace with better quality product. The construction manager was good overall. So far I have not seen any other issues.

Highland Floor Plans are amazing! That being said the experience and attention to detail in workmanship was not as expected. Small things here and there to be finished is to be expected after closing on new construction. Having to call back because workmanship is sloppy should not happen. Pointing out issue with work performed and being told it will be fixed because I don't like it when in actuality the work should be re-accomplished because it was poorly done is ridiculous. We are not too happy in the beginning when we looked at purchasing our home from highlns. The problem is that I believe this was a bit oversold in terms of trying to get us in the home. We initially made contact with a salesperson back in April 2019 and was told the home we were purchasing would be completed in late July. It was a play on the excitement in our eyes to have something ready shorty after arriving in San Antonio. Well to our surprise and without any delays that were mentioned to us... the home wasn't completed until late August. Meeting with the program manager and conversations with the Sales Manager seemed to be working in our favor, but it was frustrating. We were frustrated with not getting information, timelines and the changes in construction manager. The next constructions manager was better at responding. It was almost like the salesperson knew we were in a rush and we had to contact lead Program Managers/Constructions Managers all the time just to get updates. And the problem with that was contacting the office in the local area. I had to call the office in another city just to get through to the team in San Antonio. I called an office in Dallas to get transferred to the main officer here in San Antonio. There was little communication and finally we were able to get information on when the home would be completed and ready to move in. It was a rough few months especially with our daughter in the NICU for a few months.. and as we were not in the area to check in at times on top of having a newborn without a place to live was really frustrating. I know that we were upfront with letting the salesperson know that we would be in San Antonio the first week of July. I know that we mentioned that we wanted the tub a certain way. I know that we had GREAT communication with our realtor, but it appeared that the only people not responding to our questions or not listening were the team at highland homes. We frequented the property when we arrived and found a few areas of concern which we were told that would be addressed and taken care of as soon as possible. A new salesperson who was only here temporarily was very knowledgable about everything Highland and we so wish that we would have had her initially. This was a rush of emotion and frustration that would have been a lot easier had there been some clear communication from team Highland. Im that we initially trusted Highland homes to the fullest extent. The lack of communication and with the salesperson telling us this home would be completed in July kinda made it hard to ensure out needs were met and questions were answered. My husband and I thought we did our due diligence in researching different builders. We chose highland homes because of their great reviews and the praise they received by close friends and family. Anytime I would tell someone which builder we were going with, the response would always be “I love highland homes”. Our builder was super nice and once the building process began, he was really great at sending weekly updates of what was going on and what they were working on. I’m not sure if it was because there were so many other homes going up at the same time as ours (our builder did state that there was 2 other homes closing on the same day as us) or what went wrong, but I definitely feel as though they hired cheap, third party contractors and other construction workers that they typically don’t use. Upon moving in, our cabinets weren’t closing properly, our house wasn’t properly cleaned (paint stains on bathroom floors), hallway lights weren’t working, under the master bath sink was dirty, chips/scratches in wood flooring, our outside brick paint (which we paid extra for) was thin and you could see the red brick coming through, our dining chandelier wasn’t centered, our master bath counters weren’t fully glued down, crooked baseboards, our ceiling Sheetrock is not flat/can see where the sheets intersect and the worst of all- a master shower leak which required 1.5 weeks of in depth fixing. Our builder was really great at coming in to fix things in a timely manner but overall, the work just seemed pretty sloppy and it was disappointing to move into your brand new home and pretty much live in a construction zone as workers came in and out fixing things that should’ve already been done to begin with. They'll overcharge you for upgrades. But realistically, adding ALL the upgrades only gets you to today's standard. Most of their basic fixtures and options are dated. Don't get me wrong, everyone is very nice, but these are cookie cutter homes with yesterday's design. It'll take a lot more investment to sell.

Don't get me wrong, we like our new house. Our frustration was with the build process and post close process. It feels like quality control in the build process is non-existent. My advice? Be diligent in making sure everything is completed appropriately. Be demanding to ensure you are fully satisfied.

The houses are nice. However, we are still waiting on the builder for some warranty repairs to be done (they’re really busy).

Our home buying process was easy. No hiccups along the way and it was a pleasure working with Daniel, that part was a 5 out 5! However after we moved in we noticed a number of issues that weren’t done to our liking. We even noticed a few “blue tape” pieces still on the spots where we left them, signaling no one even saw it. We were told that we would notice things but I did not expect major appliances needing to be fixed or changed out. I gotta say based on our awesome building process and your reputation, I was expecting a little more out of the home itself.

We love our new Highland home. Kate in the office has been phenomenal from start to finish and continues to be great if we ever need her. I wish I could say the same for the builder. Emails were consistently ignored, communication on repairs were poor, and excuses were plenty. It wasn't until we complained that we started to get the service that we expected in the first place. The house had the normal things that needed to be repaired but nothing major. The one issue we have is the varying levels of the backyard. From this water collects on one side of our yard. The fill used for the dirt is poor so it stays muddy several days after it rains. When asked about this our builder said "well, it's up to code". It'll now be an added cost on use to fill the low spots. There are a few areas where it was clear the workers got lazy but overall we're happy with the house. Now if we can only get neighbors who don't leave dogs out all day to bark(obviously not on Highland but important to consider in the Morningstar neighborhood). ... More

Everything is just average

Initially everyone was great. But as closing came, things were different. Brick color was different from what we chose. There were so many little things that was promised but didn’t happen. Frontyard was just not great looking. Trees look dead. I asked the builder multiple times… not much response. I had to ask to power wash the garage. Had to ask to clean the floor before moving in. I wish the handover would have been more official and smoother… and 100%. I had bought some houses from other builders.. had completely different experience.
