We are happy with our house. We did experience frustrating delays and poor communication. We like our builder, but he is spread to thin. We are still waiting on incomplete items. There is paint on our wood floors, our garage door needs another coat of paint, rust ring from a paint can on one of our bathroom counters. It would be nice for someone to follow up a month or two after move in to address these kind of concerns. The one area where the craftsmanship could be better is the cabinets.

Overall happy with my new home. A few glitches dealing with the contractor, but that is to be expected.

The house finishes are not 100%

I am disappointed with the craftsmanship. I wouldn’t buy from Highland again.

Attentive sales, mortgage and builder contacts. The workmanship was a bit shoddy, needing some windows replaced and other concerns. There were a few items in hindsight that I thought should have been addressed in the design center that now we need to implement. Otherwise, fairly positive experience.

Our flooring seems to squeak quite a bit. It makes the floor feel cheap. Some issues with the cabinets such as them not being aligned or drawers touching each other. The landscaping died out soon after moving in even though we had the sprinklers on. There is always mud where the fence is due to poor drainage!

They get you in, sometimes forget about you and after closing is when you find the carelessness in some of the installs around the house. By then it's too late and you have to live with it.

During the home buying process, especially getting ready to close, we were repeatedly told that highland homes stood behind their work and the home. Repeatedly we were told that if we had any issues just get in contact with Castin, the person that was in charge of our construction, and the countless warranties. Well we have had several minor issues, but issues nonetheless, that we have reached out to get fixed. Nothing has happened. And one of those issues I am not sure is that small. From the beginning an area of our yard has experienced flooding, Castin said it would be fixed before we moved in, yet that certain area of our yard is a mud pit. The house is beautiful, we truly believe we got a good deal, however, we are very disappointed with the service we have received afterwards. Quicker response to warranty work

I bought a home during the thick of COVID-19. There were a lot of delays and a lot of what we originally wanted was not available. Ultimately, we got the home and everything worked out in the end. The build quality was a little lacking. The materials were not kept too well and the doors have noticeable damage and patches on them if you are looking closely at it. So far we had to have warranty repair a few things too. It’s not perfect, but we are grateful to have this home and that Covid didn’t stop us from being able to get it.

We moved into t two story Richmond plan. It is an extremely beautiful home and we love our house!! Our Sales rep is the BEST!!! We close in July and realized quickly that there were some issues with our HVAC system. Our builder was very quick to respond to the issues and has been working closely with us to ensure it gets resolved. The people/ companies that Highland contract with obviously struggle in their profession because 5 trips later, our HVAC is still not fixed. I don't blame Highland, but the definitely need to take ownership and look for a more reliable HVAC company.

The sales people are awesome and stay in touch with you. The project manager was quite responsive throughout the process. However, the drywall has multiple cracks in the corners of many walls and the material used for the baseboards seems cheap or old. The caulking dried and shrunk in less than 2 months and several nail pops appeared right away. They don't be appear to be covered under the warranty.

Our salesman Ethan was very responsive, knowledgeable, and caring. He was very helpful throughout the entire process and was eager to solve any and every issue that arose throughout. The construction manager Dylan was the same until the very end when there were some issues with door frames, when brought up he tried to talk his way out of solving the issues by going as far as saying it would push closing back two months. After going to his boss and pushing back it was resolved within a day. My family and I love the house and are very happy in our new home. I am really happy with my home, Highland has created a house I have been able to turn into a home. If you are looking for a home I would definitely go to talk to Ethan. The only problem is there is only one Ethan. He is amazing at what he does, and can tell he actually enjoys what he does. My problem came when some of my bushes and trees were dead when I purchased my house. Although the project manager assured me they would be fixed even though the closing documents said they would not replace them. Once I moved in, and discovered they were dead, the project manager simply told me it was nothing he could do. Little things that could have been included for the money that was spent. Doors, switches, lights these were just a couple up grades I paid for. Was not to happy about how high my foundation was built up in comparison to my neighbors. On the plus Rich n Ken did a good job of our concerns of the home.

Our sales consultant, Steve, was great to work with. He was knowledgeable, could articulate the value and was always looking to solve for "yes". Post sales, I thought the the execution on the end product is only as good as the trades that are hired. Quality of materials aside, I wasn't convinced that Highland had any competitive advantage in this regard.

For a house of that value, one would expect to see higher quality fittings eg light, tiles and wooden cabinets. In addition a better utilization of the space especially to increase the size of the rooms. Carpets are no longer necessary in bedrooms due to allergy issues so could have been tiles or wood for the floors.

The start on picking out home design center was great.The building of the house we had delays some out of buildings control but some was too.At the final walk through we found things that were marked but not completed after we closed and still for two mouths aren't.Miner stuff we were told to call directly to builders haven't been addressed.

Overall good experience, but some of the aesthetic issues called out on the punch list were ignored. I'm not happy with the quality of some of the finishes and faucets, but I guess it's acceptable for the price point. All of the people I worked with were great, there was just a little under-delivery in the final product.

I love my highland home. Some issues through the build process related to quality of work the tile and trim contractors did. All issues resolved in time for closing.

Get the House you want in the area you want

My only interior problem is with the USB UBS? plugs. They don't let you plug anything into them. I have waited weekS for someone to come take them out. I have been using extension cords that are not handy or safe and I am tired of it. And for an energy efficient home, I am surprised that 11 lights come on in the bathroom with one switch! There is no other choice. The garage is so small there is no place for storage. My main complaint with the yard is how uneven the dirt was before they laid the sod. It is lumpy, uneven, with ruts and hard to walk on. It gets very muddy from lack of proper drainage. It slants too much, on the side of the home, to even walk on it safely. I hate it! ... More
