Overall, we are pleased with the finished product. We found it easy to work with the builder and their response to warranty requests has been timely.

I think (Customer Satisfaction) is the dynamism that drives any company, and the most significant characteristic of a company’s failure or success. Highland Homes has this aspect on customer satisfaction “down pat”. From the beginning, working with Ethan (Sales Counselor), he made the difference in our two-year journey of searching for the right home, builder and location. When Ethan met my wife to show Highland Homes in the rain, not worrying about getting wet to show her the lots and homes available, while other sales counselors from other companies…. opted to postpone or meet at a coffee shop to deliver what they had available. My wife and I knew that Highland Homes was positively different. I am currently working overseas and Ethan was instrumental throughout the entire process, he send everything I needed to capture details on lots, area and home we had picked until we closed. Ethan worked inexorably answering emails, conference calls and photos that follow like clockwork on every update and aspect of construction of our new home. He never said “No…. I Am Booked Till This Date” nor “Can We Make It For Next Month”. Often worked after hours to meet our intent. On the finance side, Matthew’s team worked professionally and exceptionally well when we decided to use their company to finance our home. A no pressure smooth and efficient process they competently provided. The same on emails, conference calls, updates and thorough explanation of detail, and step by step on paper work to deliver a better agreement before closing day. On the construction side, Nick “The Builder” played a big role to explain and advise on details throughout the entire construction process. Professional and patient on our demands, promised to delivered our home without delays. After closing, Nick’s team worked hard to listen and fixed mostly small cosmetic issues we had during the closing process Always around to ask if everything was OK, Nick continues to deliver under the new warranty list as promised. The best thing about Highland Homes, the people. Ethan and Sean especially. Ethan is awesome. His attention to detail and follow through are exceptional. The same goes for Sean. They are the reason buying this home was a good experience. Yes we had problems and issues, almost all very minor, but these guys have been there start to finish. That’s why the overall experience rates a 5 star. Because of your people.

When punching out your house before move in make sure to take pictures of each item and put it in a spread sheet to ensure each item is taken care of

Still waiting on items to be corrected, very easy and simple ones like a microwave handle that's damaged from before we moved in 28 Nov 18 and has been on order from about 5 Dec 18. Other items are being fixed on time though.

Quality house, nice and responsive representatives.

Overall we were pleased with our home, but it wasn't without a lot of frustration. Our construction manger left the company after the slab was poured. We were assured the new construction manager would be just as receptive. I believe he was spread way too thin and possibly placed his trust into someone else. We did a number of changes from the standard build plans and the construction crew didn't follow the build plans at all. As someone who isn't in the business at all or is handy blue prints it was easy for me to see the glaring omissions and items that were not built to spec. Since a number of items had to be changed completely and re-done this caused a delay and moved out the closing date by about 3 weeks. We brought up these issues throughout the process and we were pretty much dismissed with "oh, you've never built a house before. This is pretty common". While it might be common in the housing the industry to ignore the blue prints and then have to add things that were missed (like a fireplace, for one) it's extremely stressful on the buyer side. Building & purchasing a house is extremely stressful and certain things are out of your control, like mother nature, but the overall experience wasn't pleasant. We love our home, but based on the overall process I don't think we'd go with Highland again. I'm sure on a spec home they are great, but the ball was dropped on numerous customization items. If we decide to build another home down the line we'll probably go with a builder that is more familiar with custom homes. ... More
