Great communication, trustworthy and great price/value relationship

The Process was easy from start to finish. They built us a great, quality home. Overall, they were very accommodating for our needs. They made it clear that some things were impossible due to supply chain issues, but they always seemed to make something work for us. I would absolutely purchase another one in the future if we had to relocate.

Sales co-ordination was great. Construction timelines and updated were perfect to begin with. Halfway thru, I had to check on the progress almost every week and point out issues. Final walk was rushed enough, hours before closing and with pending works. We moved into our house end of June 2022 and still dealing with issues, which should have never occurred or should have been fixed by construction manager well before closing. After moving in, I got to know almost half the workmen team to fix issues. To name a few - cabinets, counter tops, doors/trims, sheetrock, vent team, electrical, appliances and painters. I’ve researched Highland Homes before I moved to Texas and found this company is buy far the best builder. My concern is the sub-contractors and following up with the quality of their work. Every phase should be checked and the homeowner should get weekly reports or visits if possible to their home. I have a few concerns that is being addressed immediately by Highland Homes warranty, but these noticeable concerns should have been fixed by your construction manager by doing his/her due diligence for the best builder in this state of Texas. I recommend Highland Homes to a friend of mind and they’re having a home built in San Antonio, Texas as I write this review. There completion date is February 2023. Highland Homes...I can't say enough about them. Even though it took a year to build our home, because of the rest of the world's current state, Highland was incredible! Communication was great, they fielded a lot of stress before it ever hit us, so the entire process was so smooth. I knew I could trust them in every area. Jared went above and beyond for us and has even been a support to us post-move-in. Everything they do is high quality. We built our dream house and the building process was a dream come true! We’ve been in our new home almost two months and have had issues with getting our punch list items resolved since moving in. We have been in touch with our construction manager, and he has been responsive towards us about the fact that they are “working on it”, but at this point even items we have submitted a warranty for are going unamended. Our walkthrough was rushed because of a pushed back closing, but with the idea that a walkthrough takes place a couple weeks before closing so the punch list can be taken care of, it’s frustrating that two months after moving in we are still waiting for this punch list to be completed. We love our home, but it is still incomplete and it seems at this point that we are being given the run around so that issues will be forgotten rather than fixed. ... More

Had a horrible experience with Highland being a first time buyer. The construction manager assigned neither provided any status updates nor picked up the calls. He also never responded to numerous emails and texts sent. There were numerous issues during the house built and even after 2 months of closing, Highland is still working on resolving those. Had to escalate every single time and I essentially worked as a construction manager to supervise my house built. Construction manager also made racial comments saying "which part of English I don't understand" after I asked him on the status update after house closing. He got agitated as he lost the affidavit containing the list of issues signed during closing. Highland is now trying to make things better and also did some damage control around the closing time by involving the division manager. However, its not the experience anyone would have hoped for, especially from a reputed builder like Highland. Would recommend persistently asking to change the construction manager if one is not happy with him/her even after the push back from builder. ... More

I know that a lot of the trades have taken a turn downward as far as quality because of who is out there actually willing to work but there are somethings that I feel should have been caught and were not. Over all the quality of the home is great. We are pleased with the structure but there were somethings that we just felt didn't live up to the quality that you come to expect with a Highland Home.

They were excellent in all avenues of the home building process. We've been in the house now coming up on 2 months and they have delivered on everything! Would highly recommend them to anyone looking to buy a new home.

From the first day meeting the staff to final closing, the entire home buying process was extremely pleasant, highly professional and by far the best home buying experience we have had. Sia, Miya, and Brandon always went out of there way to take care of us and always produced extraordinary results. Truly the best team in the business.

I moved in couple of months back and till now I am experiencing issues . My home is still in 50 percent construction zone . I have to fight for things to be fixed . Bad drive way , patio concrete all messed up , lot of finishing issues , had a terrible experience. I wish I got my money back ,

Me and fiance decided to go with Highland homes for our first home. It turned out to best the best decision for us and our experience was fantastic. Working with an amazing builder was a huge part of what made our experience wonderful. Our builder was very responsive and helpful with any requests or question we had throughout our building process. Could not had asked for a better builder to work with. Will always be extremely grateful for what our did for us and making our first home as special as possible!

Home buying experience was fine, very easy other than the wait time which was out of their control. The quality of workmanship could be better. Builder tried to make it better and in many ways did get things fixed. A few other cosmetic issues were not fixed and it feels like you’re forced to deal with them or fix them yourself after dealing with multiple do overs.

I want to start off by saying that everyone we have worked with at Highland has been phenomenal -- Juan (builder), Kathi and team (front office), both Brians (one helping with issue resolution and one a customer service rep). This is the first home we've built, and the entire time was helpful, informative, responsive, and very kind. We couldn't have asked for a better group of people to work with. We are concerned about the quality of our home and hope we made a good decision investing in a Highland Home. When you purchase a Highland Home, you know you will pay more for quality. We have heard nothing but great things about Highland prior to buying our new home. We have had more issues than we would have liked with our home. We have had to file several warranty claims, mostly for minor items, but things you would expect to not have to worry about in a new home. I understand the current state of things has likely made it more challenging -- there are less laborers available and supplies have been tight. However, we feel there could have been more quality control checks in the process to help resolve some of these issues before we moved in. Any Warranty request we have submitted has been resolved in a timely manner, so we cannot complain about that. We are looking forward to getting all items taken care of via the Warranty process and we hope to enjoy our home for years to come. ... More

This does not apply to all Highland Homes in general, just my particular community. Responsiveness to issues is non-existent, no follow-up, doesn't follow through on agreed upon affidavit items and home still has multiple items pending to be resolved even after closing. Although there is a 1-year warranty, it may be useless as they will not respond to resolve.

Very poor quality of material used for construction for a 640k home

Great experience with Highland Homes, the quality of the build was second to none!

The house is just perfect for me. Due to the delays I had to wait 3-3/2 months in a hotel room nearby. There were a few mistakes made that the builder took care of. I'm hoping Darren will come by to see what we have done.

Due to delay in construction many of the interior trim materials are water damaged and will need to be replaced. Cabinet work is very poor in quality and workmanship in installation is bad. Numerous issues with doors, and paint and texture on walls. Construction team ran a vehicle into the brick on the side of the garage and the frame is still split. and brickwork is wonky. Door handle on the half bath was reversed. Wrong bathroom fixtures were installed and replacement was so dangerous that we purchased and installed our own due to possible injury to children. This is my 3rd house to build and I can say it has been the best build of all. Scott was great in all aspects of the process. Highly satisfied with him and Highland.

I want to give the Highland Home teams millions of big thumbs up. They built my house in time despite of the global supply chain crisis 2021-2022. Although most of house is delayed and postponed due the supply chain issue, they prepared well and built my house in time. I was able to get a best mortgage rate since they built my house in time. I really appreciate their hard work, especially for Doug Yaklin, he's awesome!! My family really loves this house. Thank you all!

My new home is beautiful, but it’s becoming more apparent as I live in it that the trades consistently cut corners. For now it’s mostly superficial (e.g. door knobs started coming off and bathroom grout started cracking/peeling first week) but I’m concerned that major issues are just waiting to be discovered. I know the housing market is crazy and everyone is stretched thin, but it seems pumping the brakes is a better solution than rushing and having to re-do each job. Perhaps my hopes were too high for a five-star home based on Highland’s reputation…

Blake, Kevin and Sue made our experience much more pleasurable. They are a very professional bunch. Would do it all over again if those 3 were involved in the process.

From the job site constantly looking like a landfill and there never being less than a dozen empty beer bottles and / or cans inside the house alone to the shoddy workmanship of every facet of the construction of the home and Construction Managers being forced to close on homes that are not even ready, this has been one of the worst experiences of our life. We have been in our home for 2 months and we’re still trying to get the original punch list items completed. The longer we live in the house, the more things wrong we find. Every contractor sent out to repair something damages at least 2 other things that, then, need to be repaired. It’s a never-ending circus. Even at this point, if we could get our money back and walk away, we would do it without hesitation. We picked Highland because of the reputation for quality. That is a thing of the past. Don’t be mistaken by the quality of the model homes. Your home won’t look like that. Just like pictures on a fast food menu. Contractors take zero pride in their work and display absolutely no common sense whatsoever. A pre-owned home would take less work to make right than this brand new home is taking. Instead of being happy that, after an 8-month wait to move into our beautiful, brand new home and being able to settle in and get on with a normal life, we’re disappointed beyond belief at the entire process and, almost can’t stand the house now because it is nothing but a source of never-ending stress.
