Highland Homes - We purchased a prototype home that was not complete and have

We purchased a prototype home that was not complete and have been struggling for over 3 months for completion to be achieved on several issues. Everyone we have worked with is very pleasant and well meaning but the process has been much too slow. I doubt that non-prototype homes have experienced anything like this but we are feeling that our issues are low priority!

To mention a few issues, The home was not ready to be delivered on the day of close with construction taking place the day off closing, tile pieces and dust all over master bathroom, supplies left throughout the home, and countless issues to follow. The home is still not complete 2 months post closing.

The design is pretty good and looks like the house is reliable but hv to stay and see how it would work

Experience was good throughout the 7 months build process. Our builder tony was amazing throughout the process. Things that could have been done better is all the cabinets they are poor in quality and work done by cabinet company when we moved in they had scratches dirt marks that are not removable. Quality is poor. Paint job is poor quality as well. For half a million home definitely not great. There are lot of things that could be done better for highlands reputation

Terrible customer service after closing

We understood early issues with the supply chain, but two months after moving in and our home is still not complete. Despite the builders having our list from BEFORE closing, we are still fighting to get our home done. Every time we talk to someone about getting it done, we are told workers will be here on whatever day… so my wife stays home all day and no one shows up and our calls get ignored. Don’t close before every tiny thing is done. Or choose more responsive builders. They will promise you the world, but you shouldn’t believe it until you see it. We will update if/when they finally ...

Overall, we had a great experience. A few minor issues along the way, but nothing out of ordinary when building a new home. For a 1,600 sq ft home I feel like the price was really steep, but that is more indicative of the market.

I closed on my home on 12/27/2021. The condition of the home when I received it should not be something Highland is proud of. The carpet was not completed. There was an entire closet that wasn't carpeted, the carpet on the stairs was loose, and carpet was sticking up in several corners. I received the wrong stove and I am still waiting for the correct one. My bathrooms are still missing mirrors and the master bath does not have the shower door, vanity lights, or the glass to separate the shower and bathtub. I have closets that don't have the rods to hang clothes. I have paint on ...

The worker shortage has left Highland Homes, and other builders, with mediocre workers who just don't care. I do not blame Highland Homes, but we are left with shotty workmanship due to our countries inability to get back to work. We all suffer.

Highland Homes responded:

After hearing some nightmare stories about other builders within the community, we knew we made the right choice going with Highland Homes. There were some hiccups along the way, but I was extremely pleased with the final product. The house is beautiful, and the builder was extraordinarily accomodating. There is a reason Highland has repeatedly won Builder of the Year! Do not waste your time dealing with anyone except Highland!

Overall it was a good experience. My wife and I enjoyed the people we worked with as they were friendly, responsive, and respectful. We would buy a Highland home again, but we would watch the building process a lot more closely along the way. I feel they are experiencing labor issues with their contractors and overall workmanship was lacking when it comes to fine details. For example small things being missed, paint and caulking just looks sloppy in areas, etc. Closing ended up being a mad dash to get everything done as the house wasn't ready. This probably contributed to the fine details ...

Building during COVID, wasn't the brightest idea

Communication with our builder has been terrible. Some of the communication issues are his fault but he's also at the mercy of his contractors that simply don't give a crap anymore. The painters were horrible and two crews were fired during the build process. Now painters who come in are kids with zero experience. Trying to get contractors to show up at all has been an absolute pain. Highland is doing the best they can. We fortunately started the build process early in the year. House was completed in 10 months but we have neighbors who built a year prior and it only took 6 months. ...
