Home is high quality. Issues that were supposed to be fixed within the first 10 days after closing are still not fixed.

Communication with our builder has been terrible. Some of the communication issues are his fault but he's also at the mercy of his contractors that simply don't give a crap anymore. The painters were horrible and two crews were fired during the build process. Now painters who come in are kids with zero experience. Trying to get contractors to show up at all has been an absolute pain. Highland is doing the best they can. We fortunately started the build process early in the year. House was completed in 10 months but we have neighbors who built a year prior and it only took 6 months. Now I'm hearing total build time is 12-16 months. Can't get materials, can't find workers, if you find workers, the quality of their work is horrible. If you must build now, know going into it that it will be a really bumpy ride. If you've built in the past, forget about that experience. This day and age, people building your house flat out could not care about overall quality of their work. If your builder isn't happy with that contractor, that contractor will just get up and leave because they have 100 other jobs they can go too. Again, this isn't really a Highland Homes issue. This is just an issue we all face these days. Even employees in over services areas simply do not care because they can go find another job in a heart beat. If you don't have to build now, I would highly recommend you wait a few years. Yes, prices keep going up but the wait will be worth it. Thankfully our build is complete but we are still dealing with warranty items that are taking months to get completed. Most are 5 min jobs and it's like pulling teeth to get someone to show up! ... Over the home is good not great as far as price. It was just the experience dealing with some individuals that makes you think? Did I make the best decision for myself and family. I know the builder responsibilities are to stick to schedule. Get the house built on time. In some case there was rushed. It stood out once I brought things to there Attention with concerns it was just about written off or down played. If I being honest , on a positive note please READ everything and acknowledge things so you don't have to fight with them about it later. If could I go back to adjust the most common things that's never on your top list I definitely wouldn't let it slip through the cracks. Be aware you might tell the builder one thing especially something your paying for. Hay can you make sure this is done this way or that way. Overall are good, Highland needs to manage all the sub- contracts that used on the project. Some of sub-contracts did not keep the appointments or they showed up later without any notifications to the owner. It took too long to fix or solve an issue.

Process went well considering covid which made closing two months later. Quality in workmanship was less than stellar, items that were to be finished before closing weren’t and still not completed. Covid again? Other than minor things it’s a beautiful house so I believe we got more for our money with Highland than we would have if we gone with another builder.

There were times when we lost trust in this location as far as selling us this home. And it took some rebuilding of trust in order for us to stay with them. Right up to the end we questioned our decisions to buy this home, but we did it and for our first home we are satisfied. I'll say if you can be here everyday during the build, make sure you are!

Overall happy with my new home. A few glitches dealing with the contractor, but that is to be expected.

I love the house, but I hate living on a street with active crews. Not just American Legend, but Highland crews too. They are messy, noisy and inconsiderate.

I purchased a home at Waterscape in Royse City. The masonry work and painters’ workmanship is very poor. Baseboards are as crooked as a politician. I do not know how Highland is regarded as being “the best”. However, I will say most of everything has been fixed so far, but why not do it correctly the first time, or at least have it corrected prior to closing. The sales portion of the build was the easiest. The staff at Highland go out of their way to help you with whatever you need. Overall, it was a positive experience.

Having good models but the prices are overpriced than market

This was the fifth home that my wife and I have built. Our second home was a Highland home as well. This was the most difficult build. It took 13 months to build our home. We signed the contract in August 2023 and construction finally got started in January 2024. Although Highland has a reputation for building quality homes, this time, the workmanship and materials were just ok. Our biggest frustration was with the workmanship of the contractors. Multiple times for a contractor to come back and fix poor workmanship. Also, our builder had just too many homes to oversee resulting in things being missed, broken by other contractors, etc. We asked to close by the end of August but after meeting with the builder and sales person, they ask to extend to September 18th to give the builder time to have everything done. The week before September was a mad scramble trying to get all the contractors at the house to try and finish. We did close on the 18th but still had a lengthy list to continue to get fixed over the next 2 weeks including cabinets in the kitchen with no shelves. Now after 5 weeks of being in, our house is together and we’re happy with the house. I don’t think we’ll ever do a new build again. I will say this, our builder worked tirelessly helping us but working with sloppy contractors and too many house given to him to oversee made his task almost unbearable. ... More

Home buying experience was fine, very easy other than the wait time which was out of their control. The quality of workmanship could be better. Builder tried to make it better and in many ways did get things fixed. A few other cosmetic issues were not fixed and it feels like you’re forced to deal with them or fix them yourself after dealing with multiple do overs.

Beautiful home but there are so many issues to content with. Sadly, workmanship is mediocre at best. Appears workman are in such a hurry to get done that the quality is lacking. Would I buy another Highland home ? Maybe would be my answer. Slowly the issues are being addressed.

We love our house, lots of space, great layout, materials are excellent. However, we all say that the little things are the ones that matter. It is really hard to get Highland homes team to respond to an issue. Lots of excuses when it comes to follow up and communication is broken with the construction team. All we need as a customer is someone to follow up and highland homes team fails tremendously on that.

Will preface by saying we bought in the pandemic boom and have calmed my anger according to the understanding of the strange times. This being said the fit and finish of the home leaves lots to be desired. Getting repairs done is not easy at all and am still waiting for almost all of it. There’s one point of contact and he is totally overwhelmed. Structurally it seems like a great build but time will tell. The sales staff was nice enough through that process.

We have found some workmanship issues since moving in. Responsiveness between initial walk through and final walk through was not great. Several issues still not addressed. We will see how warranty plays out.

Above average builder definitely recommend to buy from.

Our sales consultant, Steve, was great to work with. He was knowledgeable, could articulate the value and was always looking to solve for "yes". Post sales, I thought the the execution on the end product is only as good as the trades that are hired. Quality of materials aside, I wasn't convinced that Highland had any competitive advantage in this regard.

The start on picking out home design center was great.The building of the house we had delays some out of buildings control but some was too.At the final walk through we found things that were marked but not completed after we closed and still for two mouths aren't.Miner stuff we were told to call directly to builders haven't been addressed.

House Orientation to be better and to show all homes is advisable

The buying process have been smooth except that there’s a lot of pending issues of the house that hasn't been fixed until now and it's been 2 most since the closing date. They knew about this issues before the closing date and we have been patiently waiting for them to fixed it. The builder even told us during the buyer's orientation that they will have a 1-month follow up after the closing date to check if how is the house, but no one came, I guess there is no such thing as that. I hoping they'll be more responsive and act timely not just in words but in action.

I do love my new home. Mainly due to the location and neighborhood. I love the Trinity Falls community. I do feel the inside products are very cheap as well as the paint job.

Highland Homes as builder had a good name but in the recent home buying experience I felt little bit different. The construction work took one year to complete and the work was not up to the standard. Even though after pointing out lot of issues and errors in construction it took too much time for them to correct it. The repairs which were supposed to be done prior closing was left out and I was told by the builder that it will be done asap, but it was a false promise. Even today those repairs which was supposed to be done prior closing is not done and I was told to submit a warranty claim for those repairs. I don't understand why should I submit a warranty claim when it should have been done as a part of building process. When I went to the sales office to get more info about this, I was told not to come here and I was advised to contact the person responsible for the construction about this. The house is well design overall. The price was reasonable.

We’ve been in our new home almost two months and have had issues with getting our punch list items resolved since moving in. We have been in touch with our construction manager, and he has been responsive towards us about the fact that they are “working on it”, but at this point even items we have submitted a warranty for are going unamended. Our walkthrough was rushed because of a pushed back closing, but with the idea that a walkthrough takes place a couple weeks before closing so the punch list can be taken care of, it’s frustrating that two months after moving in we are still waiting for this punch list to be completed. We love our home, but it is still incomplete and it seems at this point that we are being given the run around so that issues will be forgotten rather than fixed. ... More
