Highland Homes - I think the quality of materials and workmanship could be improved,

I think the quality of materials and workmanship could be improved, especially for the price point. Also there were some pretty obvious issues that were not addressed until I said something, which makes me feel like they were hoping I wouldn’t notice so they wouldn’t have to redo it. There should be a standard of excellence from the builder that contractors understand and comply with or face some kind of consequence. I felt there were too many issues that needed addressing during the walk through and afterward. Because of the price of the home, I do wish higher quality materials would’ve been ...

We spent a good amount of money on our home and when we finally moved in, we were and still are disappointed by how many issues we are having in the home already. We have only lived there for two months. The quality of work is subpar. It seems like they rushed the job at the end and used subpar materials to get the job done. Perhaps they didn’t have access to the better materials due to COVID but that shouldn’t result in our home already have cracks in the paint and doors not being able to be closed and opened correctly, including the front main door. The tubs are already peeling. The ...

Too long to respond on warranty claims

House quality is great but there are always some of what I would call normal things that pass through during inspection that we have to open warranty claims to get it fixed. And the response time is not ideal... Sometimes the builder will try to push you an easy solution for you to fix or take advantage of your lack of technical knowledge... Having a hard time to have the builder recognizing that my backyard mow has a lots of imperfections which my 3 yrs old son twisted his ankle due to holes between grass sods. Also there are several types of grass so the backyard grass is all colored with ...

Home was clean when I moved in and ready for me to take over. The service from our PM was great however after we moved in several items came to light that needed attention. Our PM had the small items corrected in no time but the items left on the list have not been corrected such as our dishwasher issue with the hot water needed to clean the dishes etc. Hot water takes too long to get to the master shower and dishwasher so we have a lot of wasted water etc. You cannot foresee these underling issues before you close. After my investigation on this issue all of the highland homes have this ...

Don't get me wrong, we like our new house. Our frustration was with the build process and post close process. It feels like quality control in the build process is non-existent. My advice? Be diligent in making sure everything is completed appropriately. Be demanding to ensure you are fully satisfied.

Our home buying process was easy. No hiccups along the way and it was a pleasure working with Daniel, that part was a 5 out 5! However after we moved in we noticed a number of issues that weren’t done to our liking. We even noticed a few “blue tape” pieces still on the spots where we left them, signaling no one even saw it. We were told that we would notice things but I did not expect major appliances needing to be fixed or changed out. I gotta say based on our awesome building process and your reputation, I was expecting a little more out of the home itself.

We haven’t paid much attention to quality of work before closing. We identified few issues but didn’t insist too much on getting them corrected. After closing we ran into many minor issues from wall paints to lose door handles breaker issues wrong door type poor quality electrical outlets etc etc While none of these are big issues…. I didn’t expect to run into these petty issues which highlighted the quality of construction I do want to note that Highland had been very responsive and are trying to fix the issues.

Sharing my experience with the builder right from day one, I decided to go with this builder based on past reviews in YouTube videos. I had read in a few places that they were one of the best in the price range I was looking to buy our home. However, my experience turned out to be bittersweet. The first discussion and contract signing process were too hurried due to high demand and limited available lots. The sales agent even threatened to cancel the contract if it wasn't signed the next day. Moving on to the design studio, there weren't many choices available. The IBB design studio appeared ...

We had many builder options and assessed most models. It seemed that Highland were the quality and value package. Unfortunately our experience wasn’t quite that. We’re a month and a half post close and still have contractors every day completing or correcting work after being promised we would be done months in advance in a date we need to close.

This does not apply to all Highland Homes in general, just my particular community. Responsiveness to issues is non-existent, no follow-up, doesn't follow through on agreed upon affidavit items and home still has multiple items pending to be resolved even after closing. Although there is a 1-year warranty, it may be useless as they will not respond to resolve.

Home quality is good however ensure you have everything documented in black and white, don’t blindly trust year sales person. Don’t assume your builder knows everything. Example I had asked my builder to provide me security camera connections. When the builder says yes and added to the contract your basic assumption is they know the job. Later I found they gave me six 110 V power connections for the cameras whereas normally they should be providing network connections. Come on , in todays world who gives you 6 power connections for the cameras. I had to shell out additional 1200$ for getting ...

Hello- Our sales associates for the house build and the front office were top notch and still are. High quality folks. They have been terrific. I even wrote a email raving about them. Our home closed three plus months ago and we still cannot get some of the items fixed that have been on the closing documents. Many things have been addressed but we are not complete. Lots of reasons why, but we have paid in full for the house being completed and have been very patient for what seems like a long time.

Sales process was very positive. Building process less so. Great building superintendent assigned to build. Midstream he quit for a new builder. Replacement hood but not aware of all issues that had been agreed to. Supply chain issues. We have been in house for 7 weeks and still don’t have key appliances. Follow up on punch list is weak. Overall house is great. Pleased with build but frustrated with follow up. Too many “the other guy did it “ excuses. Someone needs to take responsibility. Can’t always expect us to believe that the other guy is so irresponsible. Who chose the other guy? The ...

The current market has allowed even the top builders to do the minimum because there is a line of people to buy the homes. We had an average experience with a builder that I went into with high expectations based on family in real estate and being a long time resident of DFW. If Highland is now ok I would hate to experience the builders that don't have the best reputations.

This was a tough situation Covid and weather made things go slower than normal. On one hand they were very responsive to making upgrades, changes and things that we were paying for. We did need to rush into the house a little sooner than normal due to the lease we had expiring so there were some touch of things that needed to be done and that is acceptable. The biggest negative I have is with the yard. The sod was dormmate when it was laid down and then the weather hit. It is starting to come around but there are large patches with no grass. Second the irrigation people didn't level ...

Highland Homes - There’s a massive lack of detail with highland homes.

There’s a massive lack of detail with highland homes. Maybe it was just our experience though? We had three different building supervisors, I don’t know maybe they just didn’t care. I can walk into any room in my house and find a handful of things that are wrong. On top of that, there are a lot of things that just look sloppy. No attention to detail, they just threw everything up as fast as possible and there was no supervisor watching. For the amount of money we paid and the quality of work performed, not impressed.

The sales representatives were fantastic. We were always treated with respect and courtesy when visiting the sales/design center. Once in the house, things changed slightly. On move in day, we attempted to hook up our dryer (electric) when I was shocked due to the plug being wired incorrectly. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the plug had no ground thus allowing for electric feedback. I had to re-wire the plug correctly. Next, after a further (detailed) inspection of the house it was discovered that there are many quality related issues that in my opinion are ...

Overall Highland Homes is one of the better builders but their subcontractors are not that great. They are rushing through the work, making mistakes and have poor quality craftsmanship. The communication with the sales team could have been better especially when it came to moving the closing date.

The homes are being built be the same mediocre subs as the "lower end" builders in the neighborhood and as a result the homes have the same mediocre end result. The materials themselves are fine and what I would expect at this procepoint, but are often installed wrong or with no regard to workmanship (chipped tiles, broken studs, miscut carpet, missing hurricane ties, scratched windows, chipped cabinets, chipped counters, etc.) and getting anything corrected before or after closing is like pulling teeth. This is our third new home buying experience and overall it was not a great one. We had a closing date that was moved, we a an fairly significant closing addendum for items that were still not finished at the time of our new closing date. We are still working on getting a few of those items done almost two months after close. The home itself is beautiful, but there is some question about the quality of the build and what we cannot see or what may come up in the future.
