We bought several Highland homes before this one and the experience was and still Fantastic. The experience with this home doesn’t feel like you can brand this home as a Highland home . NO WAY . The sad part , everyone blame Coronavirus . This doesn’t justify poor workmanship and poor customer service . It simply doesn’t feel like Highland Brand .

We bought a spec home already under construction so we were not allowed to go to the design center, which didn’t give us options for add-ons such as blinds, adding exterior lighting etc. We were not told that the standard paint was flat, nor were we given the option to “upgrade” the paint. Flat paint is the worst! Our appraisal came in $33,716 UNDER list price and we were told they would not negotiate it and we were stuck since we had already sold our previous home. We have had so many issues and have had the contractors in and out more than a handful of times. Have only lived here for 2 months and have already submitted multiple warranty claims for various things, which go unresponded to, until we follow up on them ourselves (the 7 day to respond clearly is false). Finally, the kitchen. I don’t know what to say. We are currently waiting on nearly every door and drawer to be replaced as they are all damaged, dinged, scratched, or the paint is peeling off. i dont think there is a square wall in this house. We previously had a home custom built and buying from a big box builder has lived up to their build fast and not accurate reputation. the sheetrock is crumbly, the paint falls off the wall if you touch it, the door paint has runs in it. We've had the electrician out three times. The person that we contact if something is wrong, has been fabulous. It's just when you pay close to half a million dollars for a home, you expect it to be top notch not sloppy.

Highland's system to keep track of changes is antiquated and makes it very difficult to keep track of things. It's so bad that even the builder themselves miss things that you order and/or changes you make. It took Highland over two months to give me a final price on our home. Highland has some really great floorplans and they use the square footage well. However, the fit and finish is very poor. Every door jam is full of gouges, paint drips on painted cabinets and baseboards, missing caulk between baseboards and floors in random rooms/areas, paint drips on floor, missed painting spots on doors, flaking paint on doors, missing seals on garage doors, uneven/missing wall texture, barcodes showing through on the edges of wall tile, dirty floors with sticky substance throughout (tile & wood). Overall impression is very poor/sloppy craftsmanship. Most of the items listed above were noted during pre-close walkthrough. Most items were not fixed before closing. Even after closing contractors come to the house and state they are here to fix painting, but they have no idea what painting they are supposed to fix. We've been in our home for two months and we have once again blue-tapped the house and wait for someone to show up... Whoever Highland has that cleans the homes prior to moving in should be fired. Dirty floors behind almost every door, dirt/construction dust on the top of every high surface, filthy windows. While we love our neighborhood, our floor plan, and our selections we very disappointed in the execution of how these selections were installed. ... More

Disappointed in my home. Things are breaking, caulk is already lifted, door knobs are coming up. Overall the price I paid for this home was not worth it.

Did not enjoy my experience with sales at all. Kathi and her team did not make this a great experience. There were times where I’d call or walk in and they’d ask me my name even though I had been under contract for three months!!! There are also way to many points of contact, I was getting emails and calls from 4 different sales people throughout our build. Pricing for upgrades is outrageous and included features could be better. As someone who works in the industry and has sold semi custom homes, I was even shocked when we went to design. Some of the prices were so high our designer didn’t even want to give them to us. Our builder Geoffrey on the other hand was amazing! He had good follow up and follow through. Whenever we had a question he would either have an answer or get one for us. Highly recommend him, he was personable & thorough. Of course there were delays and things didn’t always go as planned, but he made sure to communicate and resolve the issues in a timely manner. The only issue we have with our house is the back fence. It makes us feel like we are prisoners. We were never told that the fence would be 8 feet tall. We have one of the smaller backyards in the track so the back yard is only 5 feet from the patio.We wish that it could be taken down 1 foot so we can at least see something other than a fence.

Had some issues with switching the builder towards the end. Highland has been very responsive on fixing needed repairs.

They can be trusted. Just follow up on everything being done on your home and if you identify any issue talk to them immediately. They will readily respond to it.

The sales office was unreliable--missed scheduled appointments, never in the office. Every change order had to be revised multiple times because it was so wrong, math was off, double charges, and lack of attention to details.

Reliable, trustworthy and responsive !! On down side - all my glass windows cracks, Stair case is terrible, landscaping and Insulation are not worth for the money spent.

I had quite a few issues with my home initially, but they were resolved. I am still having issues with contractors cursing at me when I ask them to move their vehicles from blocking my driveway or making it impossible to drive on the street. I would not recommend being the first in the neighborhood. Especially if you work from home.

Zero complaints about the customer service. Everyone we interacted with during purchase and the build process was phenomenal. Our grievances are tied to the quality of materials, workmanship and the lack of QC. Our expectations were high after seeing HH’s model homes across several different communities. The house they built us definitely did not measure up to those expectations.

The attention to quality control was almost impossible because of the "assembly line" process of a single construction manager trying to oversee multiple homes (15 plus in our case). The electrical work was incomplete and incompetent at times. Lack of crown molding and the use of basic base molding was dissappointing. Trash pickup in and around the house was infrequent . The choices for lighting were few, and upcharges were excessive for additional ceiling fans (should have been standard for bedrooms and porch). Too much vehicle conjestion on the narrow street. The house design and the beauty of the Mustang Lakes development is attractive, but the process of a single street being constructed simultaneously was frustrating, especially with houses only 10 feet apart. The home is beautiful, but the best time for a review is after 1 year of settling in and utilizing all aspects of the new construction. ... More

We have mixed feelings about our experience with Highland Homes. While we love our new home, it does have its flaws. The Short Version The overall purchase process was alright; everyone we interacted with was friendly and professional. However, several issues arose during construction that have left us somewhat disappointed. The Long Version Initially, everything was going well. The team was professional and helpful. Unfortunately, a construction fire early in the process caused a significant delay. Thankfully, no one was hurt. As construction progressed, we began noticing several concerning issues: -Mysterious stains on the plywood -Windows left open after drywall installation, allowing water inside -A leak in the area where fire repairs were made, due to missing shingles To their credit, Highland Homes addressed the major structural issues, and the house is structurally well-built. We had the option to back out, but after consulting with several lawyers, we decided to proceed. Our main disappointment lies in the sloppy delivery: -Mortar chunks left on the porch and patio -Miscolored concrete and sloppy patch repairs -Poor construction cleanup before closing, including paint splatters on the tile and cabinetry -Smeared silicone caulk on tiles, making them difficult to clean -Questionable smears on the walls/ ceiling We expected a higher level of quality from Highland Homes, especially since this isn't our first build and we knew what to look out for. I’ll start by saying that HH was by no means terrible and in the end we are very happy with our home and it’s beautiful and the finishes HH offers are all very nice. That being said, my biggest gripe with HH is likely that I came in with higher expectations having built homes in the past with other builders in different states where the process was exceptional. I came in expecting the same and HH fell short. Everything eventually got done and taken care of but it involved a lot more leg work and follow up on my end to ensure things were getting done and were correct ( there were several errors.) In the end the attention to detail and lack of communication at all levels Sales, construction manager and HH loans was disappointing, but to their credit they have for the most part been responsive and taken care of everything once I followed up. Everything was going great until the day after funds were transferred on closing. There are still items from our second walk-through that are pending. There is absolutely no communication on getting these items fixed. I have called multiple people at corporate and have always been redirected and left voicemails because i was reassured that I would get a return call but that hasn't happened yet. It has been over two months since closing and items from our walkthrough are still pending. The process with our construction manager was seamless. However after closing, It's hard to reach anyone and communication is minimal to none. I would suggest that anyone buying a house to make sure everything is fixed before transferring funds. I can't imagine how horrible it will be submitting warranty request when items from before closing haven't been done. It is night and day difference how highland homes treats you when they already have your money vs when they don't. Our sales folks and builder never seemed to be on the same page from the get go. Despite several attempts to bridge the gap between us and the builder, we had to bring in the senior manager to help rectify the situation. Once that was done, the customer service and communication improved to an acceptable level. The home was delivered later than promised, but the quality is definitely there.

Negative: Extreme disparity between standard and upgrade expectations. Very confusing! Extremely low quality workmanship! Continuous need for repairs before closing. Disrespect for owner’s investment. Dents and gouges in upgraded cupboards. Positives: Great interaction with sales staff and design center during building process. Quality fixtures, appliances, flooring, etc. Construction manager’s attention to concerns. Quick follow up to issues after closing.

If your sales person is Haeli then be specific to the details. She doesn’t provide you with any details as she thinks it doesn’t matter to us. But end of the day we are paying money so ask every detail of lot inside and outside of perimeter. These people just work for the money and don’t value you after signing the sales agreement. I realized cheap products being used in some places of the construction. Highland homes loan officer Lindsay, not provided any steps details. Loan process was not transparent. She never told until I ask for. Over all rating okay to buy from highland homes but there bunch of other builders too. Try to consider other builder if you have options. ... More

Make sure you get your own home inspector!

Cabinets are worse than off the shelf Hone Depot or Lowe’s . Typical drywall and electric issues that a production builder does. Minimal oversight and although some stuff gets fixed, the overall house is way overpriced. At least we did not spend more for the same builder in another community.

My biggest gripe is the homeowner doesn’t really get a say so on the house. For example the height of the shower head. I’m 5ft but the shower head is placed so high I had to buy a removable shower head so I could bathe. You don’t get to choose which side the locks go on the gates. It’s perceived that you are part of the decision making as far as the house but you really aren’t. You don’t even get to choose the type of door bell you want or where it’s placed.

We did our closing in August. During closure, we had few things which were pending, but trusting the builder went ahead and closed. Its been 3 months since then which has ruined the overall experience since those list of issues have still not closed.
