It seems like corners were cut when building my home. Nearly every had paint issues or flaws, my back door looks like it was used before. Some of the trim isn't completely against the wall or is cracking. The wood above my garage is already showing wear, my fence looks like it was done with the cheapest wood possible, and my garage floor already has pits and damage. I like the floor plan of my house, but the quality is definitely not there

1 - Sales experience was great. 2 - Communication during the build process was poor and items that were discussed during sale did not happen during the build. Some of the problems were eventually solved but it was a struggle. 3 - The structural quality of the home is great but some of the finish work was poor (paint, cupboard paint, caulking, tile work, clogged drains)

I think the quality of materials and workmanship could be improved, especially for the price point. Also there were some pretty obvious issues that were not addressed until I said something, which makes me feel like they were hoping I wouldn’t notice so they wouldn’t have to redo it. There should be a standard of excellence from the builder that contractors understand and comply with or face some kind of consequence. I felt there were too many issues that needed addressing during the walk through and afterward. Because of the price of the home, I do wish higher quality materials would’ve been used such as paint, baseboards, flooring, and faucets. This was not our first new home, though it was the first time we had built from ground zero. We downsized from a (2) story highland home (new model) of which we loved, to a (1) story highland home new build. Unfortunately, the quality of the material and workmanship of our first home surpassed that of the home recently purchased. The sales team and site manager have helped us process through the building experience but the covid pandemic caused quite a few issues including having to move out the closing date twice.

Highland has great people and I do believe they are a great builder. However, there are a lot of issues with our home. The craftsmanship in many areas of the house is very poor. We trust each item will be addressed by the builder.

We spent a good amount of money on our home and when we finally moved in, we were and still are disappointed by how many issues we are having in the home already. We have only lived there for two months. The quality of work is subpar. It seems like they rushed the job at the end and used subpar materials to get the job done. Perhaps they didn’t have access to the better materials due to COVID but that shouldn’t result in our home already have cracks in the paint and doors not being able to be closed and opened correctly, including the front main door. The tubs are already peeling. The caulking in many areas are embarrassing. The bathroom tiles that we paid extra to upgrade are uneven. There’s a lot of cosmetic issues with the painting they did in the house. We are still working on a list of things that need to be corrected. The issue is it’s hard to be home every time to have things fixed. But overall, it’s disappointing to have spent over 8 months anticipating our new home and still have to keep going back and requesting things be fixed. ... More

The Highland sales representative was knowledgeable and extremely easy to work with. I believe my project manager made his best effort to handle the many issues that I'm sure are common to a new build but there's a good possibility he was juggling too many things at one time. He probably needs an assistant to keep him on track. He hasn't been great at responding to texts and/or phone calls. I believe he's sincere in his desire to do a good job but I still have some minor things that need addressing. I would recommend Highland Homes but definitely with a word of caution - don't allow issues to slide and hope things will eventually work out in the long run. ... More

Service after the sale is poor. We’re told GE Profile appliances, many substituted by lower priced models

House quality is great but there are always some of what I would call normal things that pass through during inspection that we have to open warranty claims to get it fixed. And the response time is not ideal... Sometimes the builder will try to push you an easy solution for you to fix or take advantage of your lack of technical knowledge... Having a hard time to have the builder recognizing that my backyard mow has a lots of imperfections which my 3 yrs old son twisted his ankle due to holes between grass sods. Also there are several types of grass so the backyard grass is all colored with different types of green and grass textures as well. Had issues with backsplash installation as well... After many attempts they did it right although I had to accept few minor defects as I was already of people coming to my place after I moved in. ... More

Home was clean when I moved in and ready for me to take over. The service from our PM was great however after we moved in several items came to light that needed attention. Our PM had the small items corrected in no time but the items left on the list have not been corrected such as our dishwasher issue with the hot water needed to clean the dishes etc. Hot water takes too long to get to the master shower and dishwasher so we have a lot of wasted water etc. You cannot foresee these underling issues before you close. After my investigation on this issue all of the highland homes have this issue in Liberty addition. I have called Rheem and explained the issue and found out that highland should have installed a recirculation pump to resolve this issue. My PM spoke with him boss and told him Highland has had this issue for the last ten years etc. S you can see where this is headed! ... More

It took a while to have plumbing issue resolved. Quality is not up to standards, I would expect, as corners were cut. Tile in downstairs bathroom is cracked and hidden in corner, wall to upstairs was poorly batched and noticeable, cheap paint throughout house.

Highland Homes are good. It is a better home than a lot of other builders I’ve seen. Certain things could have been done better.

We have been here about a month and a half. We find the house build very nice........but as we are in Harvest, a community in the works, it is 8 PM in the evening, and one street over, there is still heavy construction vehicles working! This is after a day of loud blaring music from the construction workers on the house next door. I THOUGHT THERE WERE POSTED HOURS for deliveries and construction. Had I not have to get up for work at 3 AM for work, i might not see this as important.......but this is very annoying!

This was my fourth highland to build. Still a good builder but their quality and flexibility has slipped.

Local Highland Team are great. Local Subcontractors are Poor. Product and materials vary from good to poor. Processes need work.

I was rushed to close as I was told the house would be ready when I moved in. Since I have moved in the issues I have pointed out have been slow to be addressed and I’m still dealing with a lot of the same issues. Once they are addressed they seem to be handled. Just shouldn’t be so hard to have things handled when I did my part.

Address all issues before close

Don't get me wrong, we like our new house. Our frustration was with the build process and post close process. It feels like quality control in the build process is non-existent. My advice? Be diligent in making sure everything is completed appropriately. Be demanding to ensure you are fully satisfied.

Our home buying process was easy. No hiccups along the way and it was a pleasure working with Daniel, that part was a 5 out 5! However after we moved in we noticed a number of issues that weren’t done to our liking. We even noticed a few “blue tape” pieces still on the spots where we left them, signaling no one even saw it. We were told that we would notice things but I did not expect major appliances needing to be fixed or changed out. I gotta say based on our awesome building process and your reputation, I was expecting a little more out of the home itself.

Love the people at Highland Homes and their home designs. The home building industry has a shortage of qualified skilled labor so end product suffers. I have maybe two walls in the house that does not have a texture/paint flaws. I thought a half million dollar product would look better. I think all builders have the same problems though. Again the people at Highland Homes are OUTSTANDING!!!

I believe that I got a great home, however there were many things that had to be done well after the move in. I believe it was rushed and therefore much was missed. The employees of highland however have been really great and truly want to help so that has made it easier to deal with things that were missed. Overall it is a great place to live and a great builder to purchase with. The biggest thing they need to work on is finishing everything to the customers expectations and get a new cleaning crew!!!! I had to pay over $400 after moving in just to get my house clean! Worst cleaning crew ever!!!! If they continue to use the ladies they are using now expect to have to clean your house multiple times over just to get it livable to expectations! Paint is still on my floors, caulk in the drains, grout in the drains, trash in the yard. Windows I’m still cleaning 2 months after the fact due to paint on them I can’t get off. The overall construction process started off well, and communication during the build phase was appreciated. Weekly updates and photos helped us stay connected since we were not local. Unfortunately, the final stages of the process were disappointing. Before closing, we hired a third-party inspector who identified several items that needed attention. During the final walkthrough, we expected those items to be reviewed carefully with us, but the walkthrough felt rushed and lasted only a short time. Many of the inspection items were not properly reviewed or explained in detail during the visit. After moving forward, we also noticed concerns with the finishing quality in several areas of the home, including electrical fixtures, lighting placement, and cosmetic finishing details that did not meet the expectations we had for a home at this price point. Some items were later described as upgrades, but as buyers we feel more clarity should have been provided upfront regarding standard finishes and options. To their credit, the team did respond after concerns were raised and communication remained professional throughout the process. However, we believe the final quality-control process and homeowner walkthrough experience need significant improvement to better match the expectations of future homeowners. ... More

The sales agents were great to work with during the buying process. Also, the finace agents were great to work with. The construction manager got changed during the process. I am not happy with the following items: 1. The towel rod is in the master toilet room, not placed next to the tub. Reason from the manager: The trim person is not allowed to drill into tile, because it could crack. This maybe true, but the window blind installer did it and the shower installer did it. This made think about the skill level of the workers. This is a high end home builder, therefore they will have very skillful workers. The manager should get the shower installer put in the towel rod. 2. The light switches in the master toilet room and the second bathroom are placed far away from the door, it got placed more than 2 feet away from the door. Reason from the manager: There are studs in the way to move the wires. Yes this is true, but it can get rewire. 3. The keyhole for the interior garage door is upside down. Reason from the manager: This is how we build all of the homes. The process to change the keyhole is very simple. I had to do it, it took 5 minutes. I would not have purchase this house, if I knew that the above items could not get resolved. I feel it should have be caught early in the building process. ... More

The experience with him is not quite good, there are some upgrades in the house that was not mentioned and it was too late to add it in, and there are some that are missing like a middle shelve in the main closet and he said it doesn't have one and the corner edge of the bathroom tiles doesn't have covering and its showing all the roughness of the tiles and there's one towel holder in one of the bathroom that is missing. There are paint issues all over the house that its not address yet. Not satisfied, might sell the house.
