Highland does not adhere to its quality promise in Painted Tree. The construction manager who originally worked on the house left and the new one shrugged when pointed with the issues. Everything was rushed a lot including the home orientation. Just after closing the home we started identifying issues with flooring, issues with water leakage in washer/dryer unit which damaged kitchen flooring. Lawn is not setup correctly with water not draining. Even though the customer service is good and responsive, we did not expect the issues we faced in a new construction home. Not a good buying experience with Highland Homes. They were not forthcoming re lending and Sales Manager Margaret D. was never available and when she was she was not helpful. We made some bad decisions and are in a Highland Home which is a result of those decisions. The building contract managers were great and extremely helpful as was the assistant sales manager Kelly A. Otherwise extremely difficult experience.

You don't feel like your living in s house of the price tag. Poor workmanship on multiple aspects, lacking higher end feel that the simple things out s house give you.

beware of waranty repairs. Not as much flexibility in selection options as was anticipated

Need help with warranty items open for weeks now and have not been attended

The lack of care taken in the build was disappointing compared to the talk up of how great the quality was. The young lady selling the house was very helpful and worked with me and my relator on getting the perfect lot. after that was accomplished I could rarely get in touch with her and she was short and would only communicate with email. I ended up dealing with here associate more and he was extremely helpful and pleasant. after paying for my home I received my keys from the design assistant she was very pleasant and helpful. I have never heard from the young lady that sold me the house? The contract was pleasant to work with. I don't feel he gave me enough information in the design meeting. It has been the first time I have built a house and was unaware of what was considered extras. I have submitted a work order and waiting response week out. I am enjoying my home and I like it. a few thing I would have done differently. I have been a bit disappointed for the value. I received a house that was not cleaned very well my master bath floor has a tremendous paint overspray on it. That is my feelings ... More

Our home is beautiful, but over priced for what you get. Highland still has not completed their final punch list of items that were to be completed prior to move in. We did not want to push our closing date as we had nowhere to go, so we went ahead and moved in. Now we have a list of unfinished items, which they promised they would come finish shortly after we moved in, but haven’t. We have reached out to the builder multiple times, no return calls, no return emails, one time he put a meeting on the calendar and we took off of work for him to no show. It’s funny how once they get their money, it’s no longer their problem anymore. Don’t get me wrong we like our home, but be prepared to chase your builder down if you want them to complete anything they “promised”. ... More

The problem still going on after we have been in the house for over 2 months.

Actually disappointed with the new build construction and lack of responsiveness with our Highland home. (Quite inferior to our previous Builder home/experience). No doubt that the bones of the house are quality; however, overshadowed by the subpar craftsmanship of the internal and external finish out. Several major issues pointed out to the construction manager during the building process along with many cosmetic issues prior to closing. Unable to use our master shower upon move in and zero faith that any of our issues will now be address since the money has now been funded to Highland. Just to list a few: chunks of concrete missing on sidewalks and patio, grout lines of disarray and missing completely in some places, 2 doors damaged, backsplash tile uneven, broken marble in the master bath, drywall cracks and visible seams, and paint on tile, wooden floors and on trim. This is our second Highland Homes new build (the first was in 2012 in The Tribute.) The experience this time around was not at all the same. Overall, we like our house but only because we had to nitpick and complain about things from the day the foundation was poured. Nearly every surface in our house had an issue that we had to manage the builder on. We did have some resolution on certain issues, but overall, the quality of this build and the experience was not what we envisioned. We will probably build another house again in the next few years and will most likely not consider Highland. Also, we are very disappointed that even after our negative survey we filled out at closing to discuss these issues (closing date was October 4) not one person from the Highland Homes corporate sales office has reached out to us for feedback. A lot of back and forth with the agent and still need some help with a replacement blind and replacement chandelier

My experience has been horrible with this builder. Building supervisor never provided prompt updates. I have to call them every day even after 3 months of closing as they still haven’t fixed all issues from closing. Even with so many follow ups, issues are still open.

Overall experience is below average. I believe I have overpaid and the basic items are cheaply made.

Promises promises promises and then there is reality They push to close so they dont have the inventory on their books and 2 months later we still hear excuses Horrible follow up

Our experience would have been wonderful if hadn’t been for our project leader - he was full of empty promises and we sit here today 3-4 months post close with items still needing to be fixed. We got so frustrated we stopped reporting and started doing these items ourselves. The workmanship is very frustrating in our new home when you pay $700k plus and get better workmanship from the Highland 45 we purchased previously from Highland in the same neighborhood. Your project lead blew this one!

There were promises made and not kept. The work to complete the home continued after we moved in. We’ve had several warranty items that needs addressing, one item we’ve had a visit 3 separate times. Bath is still not complete nor have we had a final cleanup. I will take responsibility for signing off on completed items but I was relying on trust and word being kept.

Easy to work with during building process

The worst experience, that I ever had in terms of home buying. We are still waiting on things that need to be completed. I will never recommend anyone else. Poor crafmanship, late response time, and many more issues .

I moved in couple of months back and till now I am experiencing issues . My home is still in 50 percent construction zone . I have to fight for things to be fixed . Bad drive way , patio concrete all messed up , lot of finishing issues , had a terrible experience. I wish I got my money back ,

Very poor quality of material used for construction for a 640k home

It took about a year to build my home. There were several set backs. My final walk through I noted a long list of incomplete items. The trim was not painted or caulked. A door was not painted, no door knob. The front door was not installed, the cabinets needed replaced, paint on brick, outside light fixture needed replaced, pendent lights needed install, paint on flooring, caulking on brick, etc. it has now been 2 months since closing and these have not been addressed. I have put in more warranty request that haven’t been addressed as well. I was told that the contractor has 6 closing in June then he will start working on his other houses. My house should be priority. I already paid for it and it’s incomplete. I’m very dissatisfied with Highland homes and their craftsmanship, and work ethic. ... More

Love the design of our home but it’s been an absolute headache dealing with so many issues that need to be fixed. Tired of having workers in and out of my house nearly 3 months after closing. Many of these issues could have been avoided with just a little competence in project management. I’m sure we’ll love our home long term but the process getting there has been terrible

Already facing issue in home so bad material Used and they does not want fix through warranty

Our buying experience started off great. The sales rep was responsive and helpful. After we signed the paperwork and design appointment were completed the service started declining. Although the construction manager reported updates almost weekly, we had questions and small changes that were treated as huge inconveniences. Our construction timeline ended right around the original projected date, but when we went through the walk through we were given instructions not to complete the full checklist as “it wasn’t necessary”. While the construction and foundational work seems sound, the finishings were, for lack of a better word, sloppy. Many corners of the walls were not completely painted, there were many spots on the baseboards where large areas of damage that were just painted over, almost every single window opening is very uneven (so much so that the person who measured for blinds commented several times), paint is messy in the powder room, there was paint overspray all over the floors, the caulking all throughout the house looks like it was done by a 5 year old, almost all of our fixtures were not level, the paint was peeling on most of the door hinges, the door to the garage had the wrong type of stopper installed so it broke the first day we moved in and damaged the wall, and there was a piece of the flooring that wasn’t completely attached. Of all of these items, the only one that has been mostly addressed was changing out the stopper on the door, although the damage on the door was simply painted over. What we envisioned vs what occurred was extremely disappointing and VERY UPSETTING. Our regional manager Jeff did try to do damage control, but it was too late. I’d be happy to speak further with your CEO’s Rod/Jean Ann or your QA team.
