I would say start away from Highland. They claim to be premium builder but don’t know how to address their customers. It’s been 2months after closing but the builder failed to give what they promised in the contract. I am frustrated after multiple folllow ups.

The buying process was great from the sales (Angela) to buying (Mattew). But quality of material, workmanship, trustworthy and price is just bad in every way shape and form. I won’t recommend anyone for this price, we deserved better. A lot of defects and all around inexperienced people were involved in the construction from start to finish. Just BAD.

The quality is not there~ broken sinks, shower door Leakes, toilet leaked but was fixed, missing paint on walls paid over 1 million. not impressed.

It was one day short of a year from contract to closing. Many items were not completed at closing but I was in a bind. Nearly two months after closing most items are finally complete except for one item. After many promised appointments to complete that one I am still waiting.

We built with Highland because of their good reputation. We have had way too many issues. We have been residing in this home for about 2 months and we have had contractors here on multiple days for almost every week.

We have encountered numerous issues ranging from cosmetic to a leaking roof. On the bright side Highland has been quick to respond. But it has been disappointing that a new home can come with so many problems.

Lots and lots of issues in construction quality. Not working sd/co etc

The financial side of the transaction went smoothly. When it came with the actual, physical habitation, the workmanship was fair. Fortunately, when issues arose and reported, the building manager was available.

WE PURCHASED IN SANDBROCK RANCH. WE HAVE HAD WEEKLY ISSUES WITH THE HOUSE. THE ON GOING ISSUE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM . ITS NOT JUST US, ITS NUMEROUS HIGHLAND HOMEOWNERS IN SANDBROCK WITH THE SAME ISSUE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE BREAKERS TRIP BECAUSE THE CODES ARE STRIC, BUT OTHER BUILDERS ARE NOT HAVING THE SAME ISSUES

Had to have brick removed and redone. The mail did not get delivered to community mails boxes for a month. The internet and fiber optic did not work until a month after we moved in. The caulking in house is already cracking & the corners of many rooms are cracking. I come home the other day with a giant hole in my front yard with no warning so i had no idea it was going to take place and was told they needed to run stuff (Electric) for the other part of development. No one told me that my front yard was the right of easement i guess we are supposed to know this.m It has been 5 days and counting with a hole in my front yard. I am the corner house and 2 months into living in my new home the handicap ramp is still just dirt and have been told many times it is scheduled but still nothing. ... More

Construction quality is not up to the mark. Not sure if they actually do those quality checks they say they so. You find several problems after their quality check. There were several items being worked on even after closing and have several issues still bein worked on which were reported. It also seems they treat customers differently, some get good attention and some don't. Cleanliness is not their thing... They feel some dirty items are ok when they hand over the home. They own lender company will put you on a higher interest rate even when you give counter offer you received from others. In my case the difference was 1 full percentage. They know you will still close with them for the 'incentive' and easiness of the process as they want you of delays if you go with other lender. ... More

The experience overall was very stressful, and it didn’t need to be. There was a lack of communication; questions never answered, problems not addressed in a timely fashion that would have saved Highland time and money, and would have given us an enjoyable experience. The quality of materials used and craftsmanship of the installation of the materials was mostly poor. Very disappointing in such careless, lack of pride for their trade and other trades. Most tradesmen didn’t know their craft. Nor did they respect the home of the future buyer or us the buyer. An example would be wood trim and cabinetry warped, still finding counter top dings (that is now not covered in warranty), uneven walls, and not all the warped wood was removed and replaced. I would tell a new buyer to document everything, take lots of pictures, hire your own inspector before close and before your year is up while you are still in warranty. I will leave it very short and simple. If Highland really cares, they will reach out to me for details. It is a VERY GOOD thing they had a pandemic to blame for each and every failure that came to pass on this build. In my opinion, it is only about making money for them with no care to the buyer and it is built into the contract to ensure that. If you chose to buy from Highland, invest in personal lubricant stock first.

House was to be completed in September 21, it was “finished” in January 22 to Highlands standards at which time they gave us the option of moving in or forfeiting the money we had put down and paid for upgrades and losing the property. So many things were still not done correctly but we moved in with the promise they would be fixed timely and to our satisfaction. Five months later, they haven’t fixed more than half the issues and haven’t responded to our communication attempts. Would definitely not recommend to anyone.

After owning a Highland home ten years ago and having an incredible experience, we were excited to build another Highland after moving back to Texas. Unfortunately we encountered a nightmare with being assigned multiple builders, mistake upon mistake with workmanship and materials, and having to get upper management involved to actually get our build finished. I know it’s a tough market now, but I would not buy a Highland home again.

Relocating from out of state meant we needed stronger and faster response on queries we had about the home, statuses, changes/modifications, etc. Buying process was difficult, too much confusion between Highlands (due to a lack of prompt communication), their chosen Title Company and our bank (a major credit union); this was quite a stressful situation on top of our relocation. Title company apparently made a last minute mistake on a closing doc, and we almost missed getting keys to the house on time. Literally had to sit in their offices until they corrected the issue, and they were close to closing for the day. Highlands takes the blame on that because they chose them to run Title; perhaps Highlands should look into a better title company. Moving in was rushed (lots of outstanding problems the day we took keys). Several warranty issues and “blue-tape items” persist even to this day, about 90 days after move-in. Highlands wouldn’t help with any repairs due to the winter storm. Ice Dam or other roofing issue caused interior leak on the house (60 days after moving in). Ice Dams could be caused by poor attic insulation, but despite this, Highlands won’t help or warranty the problem. Really poor experience given we just moved in here. I understand the severity of the winter storm, but we should not be experiencing ice dam problems or roofing issues 60 days after we took keys. Not acceptable. We intend on writing their corporate offices. For what we paid for the home, I definitely expect more. Almost 90 days living here and I still don’t have basic items (“paint kit”, etc) when buying a new home, and several issues are still outstanding warranty-wise. The one thing they did do well during construction was the additions we asked for. Those were well executed (water softener line, and other electrical). That said, it doesn’t make up for the rest of the experience we went through, and I can’t say my wife or I are happy with Highlands (quite upset overall actually). No internet. Asked them to come out to fix things wrong once I noticed things not right and they have ignored me once I closed. Yet they said contact us we are always here

Enormous demand for new homes has created an environment where subcontractors hire semi-trained or even untrained workers (on the job training). Their work is many times simply sloppy and sometimes unbelievably bad. The Highland supervisors ensure that work is performed to code, but that does not mean work is high quality. A new buyer must constantly question things that do not look "normal", and get them fixed before closing. i.e Highland "cheaped out" and did not put in foundation drip lines on the automatic sprinkler system; this should be standard on your new Texas home. Make sure wood trim is cut with tools, not box knives. Make sure the cheap kitchen appliances are upgraded, because Highland uses low-level kitchen appliances. Make sure the yard is graded correctly to prevent large puddles and mud holes, especially if you have children playing back there. Make sure you purchase 3-way switches for all areas where there s entry from two separate directions. Make sure you use the Highland warranty system to fix all the poor workmanship because you only have 1 year to get it fixed - some folks had been working for many months to get items fixed, nothing occurred until the continuous use of the online warranty system was the only way to finally get things fixed (again, because the building managers seemed to be too busy to remember the small stuff). Remember that sheetrock errors are MUCH easier to fix before the paint is applied. With that said, you should always get the builder to fix texture and paint errors at any stage of the game - but it is most effective before closing on your home. Highland is MUCH more responsive before closing than after closing (again, to busy for small stuff). Finally, get some help from some building experts to help you find all the errors before closing time. ... More

Be upfront with the buyer and let them know exactly what they are getting. Do not blame or penalize the buyer for a mistake Highland made. Have real sample of building materials in one location so the buyer will not have to pick materials from a picture ina 3 ring binder. Finally make sure that the Highland team in the area you’re selling home has the knowledge , experience, and customer service skills to sell your homes.

Building a home is often a dream come true, filled with anticipation and excitement. Unfortunately, our experience with Highland Homes has been more of a cautionary tale, underscored by significant disappointment in both the quality of materials, craftsmanship and the responsiveness of their team. From the onset, we were drawn to Highland Homes by their seemingly stellar reputation and the promise of quality and engagement. However, as the project progressed, it became increasingly clear that our expectations would not be met and we were just a number in their budget. Our journey, which should have been paved with professionalism and precision, was instead marred by delays and oversight in the interest of profitability. One of the most glaring issues we are still facing is the incomplete state of our home nearly two months after closing. Please, DO NOT close on your home if it is not perfect to you! The moment you close, all urgency and responsiveness will dissipate. It is profoundly disheartening to report that major components, such as our front doors, are still missing despite having been chosen roughly one year ago in the design center. This oversight, one of dozens leaves a sour taste in what should be a celebratory new chapter in our lives. Attempts to resolve these issues have been met with a concerning lack of urgency and indifference. The responsiveness of the Highland Homes team has been less than satisfactory, leaving us in a state of limbo. The communication gaps and delayed responses have only exacerbated our frustrations, making it difficult to trust their commitment to customer satisfaction. While there are aspects of the home that reflect the quality Highland Homes is known for, these are overshadowed by the significant shortcomings in both delivery and service. It is unfortunate that our experience does not align with the high standards they advertise. Speaking with neighbors who had also chosen Highland Homes, our experience unfortunately appears to be the norm in Mustang Lakes. I wish we would have walked around the neighborhood and spoken to people before making such a significant commitment. In transparency, our realtor strongly favored Highland Homes but we have also learned that is likely due to their extremely generous realtor program rather than an unbiased recommendation. Highland Homes has the potential to deliver beautiful homes, our experience suggests that they fall short in key areas of execution and customer care. We hope that sharing our story will encourage the company to reflect on their processes and improve for the sake of future homeowners. For prospective buyers, we recommend proceeding with caution and a readiness to advocate strongly for your expectations. Continuous struggle through the whole process

Not the best experience when building a new house - our builder did not respond promptly to our issues/concerns, and he became defensive when we pointed out issues and/or concerns. We are moved in and continue to deal with issues that should have been resolved prior to closing.

My experience hasn’t been good. I choose Highland because of their reputation, however they have NOT stood up to their name. There has been many errors and oversights throughout the entire process from incorrect ceiling heights, bathroom flooding, missing lights, texturing, painting etc., corrects are still being made which is NOT good howbeit some major and some minor. The contractors Do Not take pride or care in their work, their craftsmanship is poor which makes for a poor quality home. Maybe the more expensive lots have better builders and contractors but my experience has been awful. I’m sadden to say because this is my home and investment and I expected better or at least good but instead it’s just ok. I would not recommend this builder. ... More

Maybe I had too much expectations with highland home. I had so much issues that needed to be redone like the driveway painting the cabinets I have installed has a huge gap and they are telling that is how it will stay. Now I have drainage issue. For a new house the issues are just a lot.

The house is beautiful but I've got tons of documentation that shows what looks like a house that was rushed and unfinished. There's holes in the mortar of the brick, plumbing fixtures falling out of the wall, above my cabinetry there's wood and screws and plastic tossed everywhere, my lights didn't work in the front of my home, I had to recalibrate my HVAC unit because it wasn't installed properly (per the tech's input), I had an entire sprinkler sector in the front not working at all, I've had holes in walls where plumbing runs into the wall, my wood floor vinyl started peeling up, I've had one door knob fall off completely off the door, and the majority of the door knobs came loose 1 month after moving in. I want to say good things but with so many issues with a brand new home it makes me wonder if there's proper quality assurance being done. Overall disappointed with how we received the house and I have concerns about how long this house will stand if these minor things were overlooked. ... More
