Hello- Our sales associates for the house build and the front office were top notch and still are. High quality folks. They have been terrific. I even wrote a email raving about them. Our home closed three plus months ago and we still cannot get some of the items fixed that have been on the closing documents. Many things have been addressed but we are not complete. Lots of reasons why, but we have paid in full for the house being completed and have been very patient for what seems like a long time.

Sales process was very positive. Building process less so. Great building superintendent assigned to build. Midstream he quit for a new builder. Replacement hood but not aware of all issues that had been agreed to. Supply chain issues. We have been in house for 7 weeks and still don’t have key appliances. Follow up on punch list is weak. Overall house is great. Pleased with build but frustrated with follow up. Too many “the other guy did it “ excuses. Someone needs to take responsibility. Can’t always expect us to believe that the other guy is so irresponsible. Who chose the other guy? The ...

Highland Homes - There were promises made and not kept.

There were promises made and not kept. The work to complete the home continued after we moved in. We’ve had several warranty items that needs addressing, one item we’ve had a visit 3 separate times. Bath is still not complete nor have we had a final cleanup. I will take responsibility for signing off on completed items but I was relying on trust and word being kept.

The lack of care taken in the build was disappointing compared to the talk up of how great the quality was. The young lady selling the house was very helpful and worked with me and my relator on getting the perfect lot. after that was accomplished I could rarely get in touch with her and she was short and would only communicate with email. I ended up dealing with here associate more and he was extremely helpful and pleasant. after paying for my home I received my keys from the design assistant she was very pleasant and helpful. I have never heard from the young lady that sold me the house? ...

Home Buying Experience Was......Ok

This is our third new home buying experience and overall it was not a great one. We had a closing date that was moved, we a an fairly significant closing addendum for items that were still not finished at the time of our new closing date. We are still working on getting a few of those items done almost two months after close. The home itself is beautiful, but there is some question about the quality of the build and what we cannot see or what may come up in the future.

We purchased a Highland home in April of this year and have had multiple issues. One of the main issues was our granite kitchen countertop had a crack that ran from one side to the other and our previous construction mgr didn't want to replace it and kept telling us it was a natural fissure which it was not. We had to go to his boss to get this resolved and it took several weeks but they finally replaced it 2 weeks after we moved in. We did our 10 day walk through before our closing day and marked multiple issues that needed to be fixed. Several of these issues were not addressed and ...

Highland Homes - The current market has allowed even the top builders to do the
- Alison W.

The current market has allowed even the top builders to do the minimum because there is a line of people to buy the homes. We had an average experience with a builder that I went into with high expectations based on family in real estate and being a long time resident of DFW. If Highland is now ok I would hate to experience the builders that don't have the best reputations.

Our home is beautiful, but over priced for what you get. Highland still has not completed their final punch list of items that were to be completed prior to move in. We did not want to push our closing date as we had nowhere to go, so we went ahead and moved in. Now we have a list of unfinished items, which they promised they would come finish shortly after we moved in, but haven’t. We have reached out to the builder multiple times, no return calls, no return emails, one time he put a meeting on the calendar and we took off of work for him to no show. It’s funny how once they get their ...

This was a tough situation Covid and weather made things go slower than normal. On one hand they were very responsive to making upgrades, changes and things that we were paying for. We did need to rush into the house a little sooner than normal due to the lease we had expiring so there were some touch of things that needed to be done and that is acceptable. The biggest negative I have is with the yard. The sod was dormmate when it was laid down and then the weather hit. It is starting to come around but there are large patches with no grass. Second the irrigation people didn't level ...

Highland Homes - There’s a massive lack of detail with highland homes.

There’s a massive lack of detail with highland homes. Maybe it was just our experience though? We had three different building supervisors, I don’t know maybe they just didn’t care. I can walk into any room in my house and find a handful of things that are wrong. On top of that, there are a lot of things that just look sloppy. No attention to detail, they just threw everything up as fast as possible and there was no supervisor watching. For the amount of money we paid and the quality of work performed, not impressed.
Highland Homes responded:
Hi Dustin, I appreciate you taking the time to leave us a detailed review of your experience during the build process as it helps us to better understand opportunities for improvement. I am sorry that this has been your experience as we strive to ensure a quality finish in the homes that we build. Well if you show a model home and say you would give a customer the same exact without only one item the customer needs to hold your word for it. If the customer is paying for a premium product its not right to short change them. The fence color did not match and we were told they will fix the issue which ended up not getting fixed to date. The outside up-lights went missing and that is one of the signature aspect that made me go for the model that i bought. All similar models next to me have the and apparently when i asked i was told it was am upgrade which is not what i was told at the time ...

We closed on February 19th and STILL have issues waiting to be corrected. At first we were told materials had to be ordered and they were delayed. Now we are told no one will come out with the COVID scare. Not overly confident that my issues are going to be taken care of ever at this point.

Actually disappointed with the new build construction and lack of responsiveness with our Highland home. (Quite inferior to our previous Builder home/experience). No doubt that the bones of the house are quality; however, overshadowed by the subpar craftsmanship of the internal and external finish out. Several major issues pointed out to the construction manager during the building process along with many cosmetic issues prior to closing. Unable to use our master shower upon move in and zero faith that any of our issues will now be address since the money has now been funded to Highland. ...

This is our second Highland Homes new build (the first was in 2012 in The Tribute.) The experience this time around was not at all the same. Overall, we like our house but only because we had to nitpick and complain about things from the day the foundation was poured. Nearly every surface in our house had an issue that we had to manage the builder on. We did have some resolution on certain issues, but overall, the quality of this build and the experience was not what we envisioned. We will probably build another house again in the next few years and will most likely not consider Highland. ...

The sales representatives were fantastic. We were always treated with respect and courtesy when visiting the sales/design center. Once in the house, things changed slightly. On move in day, we attempted to hook up our dryer (electric) when I was shocked due to the plug being wired incorrectly. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the plug had no ground thus allowing for electric feedback. I had to re-wire the plug correctly. Next, after a further (detailed) inspection of the house it was discovered that there are many quality related issues that in my opinion are ...

Choose your house engineer carefully if you can. Make sure they actually understand what’s happening inside the house. In my case, the concrete was poured on a rainy day, which led to cracks. Any concerns I raised were brushed off as “common.” There was no blue-tape walkthrough, even a month after moving in, supposedly due to a “new Highland policy.” A design center mistake caused mismatched grout in the bathrooms that was never corrected, even though I was told verbally it would be. Several promises were made but not delivered. As a corner lot, we were supposed to receive upgraded side ...

Love the design of our home but it’s been an absolute headache dealing with so many issues that need to be fixed. Tired of having workers in and out of my house nearly 3 months after closing. Many of these issues could have been avoided with just a little competence in project management. I’m sure we’ll love our home long term but the process getting there has been terrible
