The worst experience, that I ever had in terms of home buying. We are still waiting on things that need to be completed. I will never recommend anyone else. Poor crafmanship, late response time, and many more issues .

Our buying experience started off great. The sales rep was responsive and helpful. After we signed the paperwork and design appointment were completed the service started declining. Although the construction manager reported updates almost weekly, we had questions and small changes that were treated as huge inconveniences. Our construction timeline ended right around the original projected date, but when we went through the walk through we were given instructions not to complete the full checklist as “it wasn’t necessary”. While the construction and foundational work seems sound, the finishings were, for lack of a better word, sloppy. Many corners of the walls were not completely painted, there were many spots on the baseboards where large areas of damage that were just painted over, almost every single window opening is very uneven (so much so that the person who measured for blinds commented several times), paint is messy in the powder room, there was paint overspray all over the floors, the caulking all throughout the house looks like it was done by a 5 year old, almost all of our fixtures were not level, the paint was peeling on most of the door hinges, the door to the garage had the wrong type of stopper installed so it broke the first day we moved in and damaged the wall, and there was a piece of the flooring that wasn’t completely attached. Of all of these items, the only one that has been mostly addressed was changing out the stopper on the door, although the damage on the door was simply painted over. I would say start away from Highland. They claim to be premium builder but don’t know how to address their customers. It’s been 2months after closing but the builder failed to give what they promised in the contract. I am frustrated after multiple folllow ups.

The buying process was great from the sales (Angela) to buying (Mattew). But quality of material, workmanship, trustworthy and price is just bad in every way shape and form. I won’t recommend anyone for this price, we deserved better. A lot of defects and all around inexperienced people were involved in the construction from start to finish. Just BAD.

I moved in couple of months back and till now I am experiencing issues . My home is still in 50 percent construction zone . I have to fight for things to be fixed . Bad drive way , patio concrete all messed up , lot of finishing issues , had a terrible experience. I wish I got my money back ,

Very poor quality of material used for construction for a 640k home

It took about a year to build my home. There were several set backs. My final walk through I noted a long list of incomplete items. The trim was not painted or caulked. A door was not painted, no door knob. The front door was not installed, the cabinets needed replaced, paint on brick, outside light fixture needed replaced, pendent lights needed install, paint on flooring, caulking on brick, etc. it has now been 2 months since closing and these have not been addressed. I have put in more warranty request that haven’t been addressed as well. I was told that the contractor has 6 closing in June then he will start working on his other houses. My house should be priority. I already paid for it and it’s incomplete. I’m very dissatisfied with Highland homes and their craftsmanship, and work ethic. ... More

What we envisioned vs what occurred was extremely disappointing and VERY UPSETTING. Our regional manager Jeff did try to do damage control, but it was too late. I’d be happy to speak further with your CEO’s Rod/Jean Ann or your QA team.

The quality is not there~ broken sinks, shower door Leakes, toilet leaked but was fixed, missing paint on walls paid over 1 million. not impressed.

It was one day short of a year from contract to closing. Many items were not completed at closing but I was in a bind. Nearly two months after closing most items are finally complete except for one item. After many promised appointments to complete that one I am still waiting.

We built with Highland because of their good reputation. We have had way too many issues. We have been residing in this home for about 2 months and we have had contractors here on multiple days for almost every week.

We have encountered numerous issues ranging from cosmetic to a leaking roof. On the bright side Highland has been quick to respond. But it has been disappointing that a new home can come with so many problems.

This is my first time purchasing a new build so I have nothing to compare my experiences to. This was a forced move for work so not a lot of time to shop around. Highland came highly recommend from my realtor. I looked at 2 Highland homes and on its face I really like them. Completed my "blue tape" walk through (took a vacation day and drove 10 hrs total) where I marked things that needed repaired before closing. I attempted to go over things with a fine toothed comb but it's a lot to look at in a short amount of time. I came back the next week for closing and was assured by the builder all of my stuff was repaired. I arrive at the house and noticed 90% of the things I marked were not fixed, though the blue tape was now removed. I was not a happy camper. What other things did they cover up? I made my concerns known and a few of the bosses arrived and began helping fix items. They assured me multiple people had walked through my house several times, but they must've walked through with their eyes closed to miss all the glaring issues. Things ranged from screws in the door hinges not screwed in, paint splatter all over the laminate flooring, trim not complete nor painted, grout all over the tile, laminate damaged, outlets not installed correctly, and sink leaking (though i was told it was fixed already, yet under the cabinet was still wet). Yes they are willing to fix it. Thankfully you get a bumper to bumper warranty for the first year because you'll need it. After a week of being in the home 5 tiles cracked in the bathroom and a warranty claim was made. Building a home is often a dream come true, filled with anticipation and excitement. Unfortunately, our experience with Highland Homes has been more of a cautionary tale, underscored by significant disappointment in both the quality of materials, craftsmanship and the responsiveness of their team. From the onset, we were drawn to Highland Homes by their seemingly stellar reputation and the promise of quality and engagement. However, as the project progressed, it became increasingly clear that our expectations would not be met and we were just a number in their budget. Our journey, which should have been paved with professionalism and precision, was instead marred by delays and oversight in the interest of profitability. One of the most glaring issues we are still facing is the incomplete state of our home nearly two months after closing. Please, DO NOT close on your home if it is not perfect to you! The moment you close, all urgency and responsiveness will dissipate. It is profoundly disheartening to report that major components, such as our front doors, are still missing despite having been chosen roughly one year ago in the design center. This oversight, one of dozens leaves a sour taste in what should be a celebratory new chapter in our lives. Attempts to resolve these issues have been met with a concerning lack of urgency and indifference. The responsiveness of the Highland Homes team has been less than satisfactory, leaving us in a state of limbo. The communication gaps and delayed responses have only exacerbated our frustrations, making it difficult to trust their commitment to customer satisfaction. While there are aspects of the home that reflect the quality Highland Homes is known for, these are overshadowed by the significant shortcomings in both delivery and service. It is unfortunate that our experience does not align with the high standards they advertise. Speaking with neighbors who had also chosen Highland Homes, our experience unfortunately appears to be the norm in Mustang Lakes. I wish we would have walked around the neighborhood and spoken to people before making such a significant commitment. In transparency, our realtor strongly favored Highland Homes but we have also learned that is likely due to their extremely generous realtor program rather than an unbiased recommendation. Highland Homes has the potential to deliver beautiful homes, our experience suggests that they fall short in key areas of execution and customer care. We hope that sharing our story will encourage the company to reflect on their processes and improve for the sake of future homeowners. For prospective buyers, we recommend proceeding with caution and a readiness to advocate strongly for your expectations. Continuous struggle through the whole process

Construction quality is not up to the mark. Not sure if they actually do those quality checks they say they so. You find several problems after their quality check. There were several items being worked on even after closing and have several issues still bein worked on which were reported. It also seems they treat customers differently, some get good attention and some don't. Cleanliness is not their thing... They feel some dirty items are ok when they hand over the home. They own lender company will put you on a higher interest rate even when you give counter offer you received from others. In my case the difference was 1 full percentage. They know you will still close with them for the 'incentive' and easiness of the process as they want you of delays if you go with other lender. ... More

Not the best experience when building a new house - our builder did not respond promptly to our issues/concerns, and he became defensive when we pointed out issues and/or concerns. We are moved in and continue to deal with issues that should have been resolved prior to closing.

My experience hasn’t been good. I choose Highland because of their reputation, however they have NOT stood up to their name. There has been many errors and oversights throughout the entire process from incorrect ceiling heights, bathroom flooding, missing lights, texturing, painting etc., corrects are still being made which is NOT good howbeit some major and some minor. The contractors Do Not take pride or care in their work, their craftsmanship is poor which makes for a poor quality home. Maybe the more expensive lots have better builders and contractors but my experience has been awful. The experience overall was very stressful, and it didn’t need to be. There was a lack of communication; questions never answered, problems not addressed in a timely fashion that would have saved Highland time and money, and would have given us an enjoyable experience. The quality of materials used and craftsmanship of the installation of the materials was mostly poor. Very disappointing in such careless, lack of pride for their trade and other trades. Most tradesmen didn’t know their craft. Nor did they respect the home of the future buyer or us the buyer. An example would be wood trim and cabinetry warped, still finding counter top dings (that is now not covered in warranty), uneven walls, and not all the warped wood was removed and replaced. I would tell a new buyer to document everything, take lots of pictures, hire your own inspector before close and before your year is up while you are still in warranty. Maybe I had too much expectations with highland home. I had so much issues that needed to be redone like the driveway painting the cabinets I have installed has a huge gap and they are telling that is how it will stay. Now I have drainage issue. For a new house the issues are just a lot.

The house is beautiful but I've got tons of documentation that shows what looks like a house that was rushed and unfinished. There's holes in the mortar of the brick, plumbing fixtures falling out of the wall, above my cabinetry there's wood and screws and plastic tossed everywhere, my lights didn't work in the front of my home, I had to recalibrate my HVAC unit because it wasn't installed properly (per the tech's input), I had an entire sprinkler sector in the front not working at all, I've had holes in walls where plumbing runs into the wall, my wood floor vinyl started peeling up, I've had one door knob fall off completely off the door, and the majority of the door knobs came loose 1 month after moving in. I want to say good things but with so many issues with a brand new home it makes me wonder if there's proper quality assurance being done. Overall disappointed with how we received the house and I have concerns about how long this house will stand if these minor things were overlooked. ... More

Lots and lots of issues in construction quality. Not working sd/co etc

The financial side of the transaction went smoothly. When it came with the actual, physical habitation, the workmanship was fair. Fortunately, when issues arose and reported, the building manager was available.

Moved in my house April 28th there were still a few issues that had been blue taped. I brought this to the builder attention and it was suppose to get repaired. It is now almost August and I have been given the run around. I have contacted the builder multiple times who tells me he will reach out to the flooring company and call me back and then I never hear from him. The flooring company calls and gives me the run around and now I’m stuck with a chipped tile that was that was suppose to be repaired. My bricks and mortar are starting to crack and chip. My baseboards shred super easily I think the material used is cheap. My house is so beautiful but there are some issues that I have had in the process. ... More

I will leave it very short and simple. If Highland really cares, they will reach out to me for details. It is a VERY GOOD thing they had a pandemic to blame for each and every failure that came to pass on this build. In my opinion, it is only about making money for them with no care to the buyer and it is built into the contract to ensure that. If you chose to buy from Highland, invest in personal lubricant stock first.
