My experience started off great, but once we got close to the end to close that's when we had issue with getting items completed. The sales person was great she did the best she could to get items addressed. However, the construction team was slow and unresponsive to getting items ready for a final walkthrough. Things weren't ready until 5 minutes before we had to close.

Could have been better with details and craftsmanship, unfortunately it didn’t turn out exactly as we wanted but “good enough” which is kind of the running theme on some things. In some ways they were very radon’s ice but then they’d disappear with no communication. In the end a couple of big things were missing/didn’t turn out right and I’m tired of having to call them out to fix things.

From the beginning of the process, December 2019, Megan, our sales rep, went above and beyond to answer our questions or concerns that we had. We purchased our property before our section of the neighborhood had been started and before Highland officially started building in the neighborhood so there were growing pains associated with that. The whole process could have been streamlined had we known every option that was available from the start. Throughout the whole process we had to essentially inundate our sales rep with questions about things we could have put in the house, things that are now readily available to all purchases, ie. Black exterior and interior windows. Megan did her best to get our questions answered asap but it seemed like corporate didn't have the answers themselves. Again, Megan went above and beyond and did an amazing job. Overall quality of the house...some aspects are good and others not so much. The trim work around the house is sub par and cheap. The caulking used to seal has already started splitting, seams and taping on the drywall have started splitting, which was explained to us by our construction manager is not covered to have repaired by highland since its from settling. Correction tape and floating issues are covered but not seems in the caulking and nail pops. One of our corners in the kitchen trim is wonky and not plum, neither is the wall. Exterior paint job is spotty and shotty and the trades used throughout the process have zero respectability in their work. Touch up done on trim around the house was not painted properly after repairs were made to it. Stain in the master bathroom tub hasn't been able to be removed. Cracks on the corners of walls, and the list goes on. For a company that I've heard nothing but good things about some of the work quality is lower than builder grade at best. Need to be more attentive to the trades they hire and be on-site more to make sure they're doing their jobs and cleaning up their trash. I should not be finding fragments, large fragments at that, of brick and trash throughout my yard under flower beds and sod. ... More

Wasn’t a very pleasant home purchase. We had issues from the day we moved in and had to reach out many times to get things fixed.

The sales team was great. When construction started, that’s when things went south. Our construction manager was changed after the house was started. Things that were written on the scope were not followed through correctly. We are very disappointed with the workmanship of the house. I have a working list of 27 items for warranty at this time that I need to submit. Also disappointed in the materials that were used especially using mdf products and not wood for baseboards and trim around doors. Do love the floor plan that we selected.

I bought a Highland home because of their wonderful reputation however, I was disappointed in the quality of work and the oversight. While I love the home itself there were many issues during construction and after. The finishes of the house are poorly done and it feels like cheap labor was used just to complete the job. I thought Highland was known for great customer service however, was disappointed in being brushed off by the construction manager. The process they have with pre-closing and home orientation is flawed. We had several items on the list to be fixed but the focus was on closing and not finishing the punchlist. We have been closed for almost two months and are still trying to resolve issues. Highland needs to have an independent quality check prior to closing. They say they do but they don’t. After we closed we came to the house and our cooktop was in the floor because it did not fit, which was an issue for weeks prior to closing which they had time to fix but just could get it done. This builder has so much potential because there is a good product that could come if the building team took our home seriously in their work. The building team did not walk us through home building as it should have been done so many things were missed and even done incorrectly due to lack of proper oversight. I often voiced concern that I need more information prior to having meetings to decide on things but would not get the information I need prior to or even in the meeting. The building team should have walked us line by line what each category is and meant and not brushed over anything or asked in a general section do you see anything here you want. We are not building professionals. After move in our concerns were brushed off time and time again until I had to provide proof of other homes that I would go visit during their construction that had items we were told were correct (but weren’t) or couldn’t be done (but we’re done elsewhere). Our floor plan is so beautiful but the lack of care has caused this to be very stressful once we were in the home and finding out things and not getting the help we need. ... More

The materials are cheap. Replaced light fixtures in bedroom with ceiling fans and the fixtures were plastic and could not be more than $10. This is throughout the house - I could go on. The warranty department is non responsive. Still waiting for a response and have left serveral messages. The air conditioner is not working properly and will be the 3rd call directly to the company they picked.

The home looks great, but the functionality is not there. Sound travels from the guest bath all the way to the master bedroom. The light switches are minimal and placed oddly. The air conditioner blows super loud. They installed a used dishwasher. The interior paint is the cheapest quality I've ever seen and scuffs at the slightest touch. The cabinets are not adjustable. The master closet was only designed for hanging everything, which no one does. The master bath doesn't have a place to hang towels near the shower. Little things that make a house feel like a home are not there with this model. Also, the construction manager told us to reach out, but does not respond. The house just feels like it was a rush job. Issues with cabinet paint and wood floors. Still trying to get repaired.

I feel that the Highland promise did not live up to expectations. Cost was high, processed was rushed, too many errors and quality concerns. As one of the first to move in to this new development, extra consideration should have been taken to protect and assure a great experience. The people are very good people, but the overall corporate objective leaves a lot to be desired.

We had high hopes given the options and level of detail when we purchased our build. Then it was delay after delay. Then a rush to close before things were finished, only to find out that key utilities weren’t even up. Only after contacting the ceo for the master builder did we get anything addressed, I blame highland homes for rushing into closing without checking everything, had we known we would not have closed when we did. I’m still dealing with finish items that weren’t addressed with the home prior to closing because it’s now MY responsibility, not theirs to deal with the subs. We closed 3 months ago. ... More

Great sales team, helped us through every phase. Not everything was finished at closing and construction supervisor promised everything would be done very soon. Over 2 months later we still have a lot to be done. Funny how once they have their money very little, other than empty promises, happens. I wonder when they’ll get around to fixing the details???

So house was extremely rushed went through a ton of repairs and touch ups to cabinets. Island needed replacement panels and work was not finished product.. Very poorly constructed but very pricy

The salesman was great . But I’m disappointed in the price of the house and the material that was used for the price of the home i feel Rob because everything in the home is cheap from the mds molding that looks like he goes in a cheap apartment not a 900k home

I felt the response time in addressing some issues were very slow and some of the workmanship left a lot to be desired installing damaged goods are just not acceptable

We have previously built a new home with Highland some 13 years ago, and our past great experience was not matched this time. Not even close. They were resistant to even minor changes in the house plan, and one employee noted the business model had changed 4 or 5 years ago. Frankly, the house was just not ready for move in, and the punch list grew longer every day. There have been electrical issues, plumbing issues, landscape issues, and more . 8 weeks later we still have items not completed though staff says they are working at it. We clearly are not a priority. This experience with Highland has been disappointing to say the very least, and I could not in good faith recommend this builder to a friend. ... More

The initial experience with HH was fantastic. Sales lady is an amazing person overall and was very helpful throughout the process. The second superintendent assigned to my house was easy to work with as well, but that's about where the positives end. My house was rushed (finished 2 months "ahead of schedule") and it showed. Poor painting, very poor trim work, and floors not adequately protected while contractors still in the house leading to cosmetic issues. The grass was laid prematurely causing uneven ground and poor drainage, lots of trash left on the property after "completion", and just overall a lack of attention to detail. The superintendent assigned to my house 4 days before closing was stuck with a pile of junk and desperately rushed to fix the issues. I had to do the final walk through after I closed and all of the issues weren't resolved until 5-6 weeks after I moved in. I take responsibility for not pushing back on the close date given the state of the house, but I was continually promised it would be completed. Ultimately my experience showed me that the employees you will deal with on a day-to-day basis are amazing, but it is lead by a management team who is completely out of touch making poor choices and putting their employees in a bad position with the home buyers. ... The lay out of the home is just right for us. The location is spot on for what we were looking for. Neighbors are great as well which is good. The issue is the details. The craftsmanship work done for the caulking around the floor trim is the worst I’ve ever seen, (not our first home build) door handles falling off, shower curtain rods not installed, just laying on top of tile till they fall, Stove not wired correctly, short cuts taken on trim work around doors and kitchen. Grout work is not professional either. We understand things happen and it can never be perfect, but this is just small detail work that a craftsman should be skilled in and take pride in, if a door handle can’t be put on correctly then how do we know the foundation or walls or roof was done correctly? We only listed a small amount of the issues found. With that said, they have come and fixed the issues which is good but with the history and amount of homes they do, we should be farther along with some pride in the work. I'll start with my wife was involved in the Sales portion of the house buying experience. That not surprisingly went off without a hitch. The financing portion of the sale was also amazing. Now is where everything starts to fall apart a bit. My wife put in our first warranty issue, and we still don't have a functioning video doorbell. We had a tech come out and get the garage door functional but not the camera after the first doorbell was replaced due to a humming sound. All other issues were fixed on her first ticket. Now is where I come into the fold. I started looking at various things around the house and was starting to find a lot of issues especially with the drywall. The other issues were cracked tile, paint, grout in the bathroom showers, carpet, and some other issues. The initial part of the process was handled within the time frame promised. The paint contractor and his wife came out multiple times to fix several issues throughout the house. The issue they are having to fix over and over are the cracks in the corners of just every room. He also fixed some other minor dry wall issues here and there. The grout issue took a week or more to get that person out. The plumber who came out was on top of his issues really quick and resolved them quickly. The real issue was taking 3 weeks to get a guy out to repair some cracked tile. He pulled the toilet and set it in the tub. Fixed the three cracked tiles originally reported one being under the toilet. Issue there were two more cracked tiles under the toilet that the plumber pointed out when he came to put the toilet back in. Another week or two goes by and they finally get back out to fix the other two tiles. I went out of town on vacation and the tub where the toilet was left is now damaged and will need to put in another ticket on that. The tubs were also left with grout all over them without exception. With the exception of the cabinet company, the low voltage company and the carpet company people have showed up unannounced to do a repair, not a huge issue for me as I am unemployed currently, but I would guess this would be a huge issue for people who are working outside the home. I was also consistently no showed when I was told somebody would be here to fix the issues. I feel a lot of my issues could have been resolved upfront with a better-quality control up front. Worst experience buying a new home. Through out the process Still trying to get things fixed Do not listen and do not care Just check the box

Still waiting(3months after closing)on my driveway and sidewalks to be properly powewashed. It still has red dirt stains on brandnew sidewalk and brandnew community. Other craftsmanship issues on interior of my home is becoming apparent. Other builders in same community have done much better job with powerwashing after completion of construction. Please address this issue as soon as possible. Highland home directly across street has same issue.

on your walk through "BEFORE" closing make sure everything is looked at even molding and seams on the wall. Check EVERYTHING and document it and have it done if possible before you close.
