Could have been better with details and craftsmanship, unfortunately it didn’t turn out exactly as we wanted but “good enough” which is kind of the running theme on some things. In some ways they were very radon’s ice but then they’d disappear with no communication. In the end a couple of big things were missing/didn’t turn out right and I’m tired of having to call them out to fix things.

I really like the home and overall it has good quality. There is one part which is not addressed properly. My master-bath granite counter-tops are really rough and does not look a quality product. I had raised this issue to all involved in the home process since the day it was installed, however, I was just told that this is how granite comes. I would really appreciate if they replace with better quality product. The construction manager was good overall. So far I have not seen any other issues.

They'll overcharge you for upgrades. But realistically, adding ALL the upgrades only gets you to today's standard. Most of their basic fixtures and options are dated. Don't get me wrong, everyone is very nice, but these are cookie cutter homes with yesterday's design. It'll take a lot more investment to sell.

The houses are nice. However, we are still waiting on the builder for some warranty repairs to be done (they’re really busy).

So house was extremely rushed went through a ton of repairs and touch ups to cabinets. Island needed replacement panels and work was not finished product.. Very poorly constructed but very pricy

The lay out of the home is just right for us. The location is spot on for what we were looking for. Neighbors are great as well which is good. The issue is the details. The craftsmanship work done for the caulking around the floor trim is the worst I’ve ever seen, (not our first home build) door handles falling off, shower curtain rods not installed, just laying on top of tile till they fall, Stove not wired correctly, short cuts taken on trim work around doors and kitchen. Grout work is not professional either. We understand things happen and it can never be perfect, but this is just small detail work that a craftsman should be skilled in and take pride in, if a door handle can’t be put on correctly then how do we know the foundation or walls or roof was done correctly? We only listed a small amount of the issues found. With that said, they have come and fixed the issues which is good but with the history and amount of homes they do, we should be farther along with some pride in the work. I'll start with my wife was involved in the Sales portion of the house buying experience. That not surprisingly went off without a hitch. The financing portion of the sale was also amazing. Now is where everything starts to fall apart a bit. My wife put in our first warranty issue, and we still don't have a functioning video doorbell. We had a tech come out and get the garage door functional but not the camera after the first doorbell was replaced due to a humming sound. All other issues were fixed on her first ticket. Now is where I come into the fold. I started looking at various things around the house and was starting to find a lot of issues especially with the drywall. The other issues were cracked tile, paint, grout in the bathroom showers, carpet, and some other issues. The initial part of the process was handled within the time frame promised. The paint contractor and his wife came out multiple times to fix several issues throughout the house. The issue they are having to fix over and over are the cracks in the corners of just every room. He also fixed some other minor dry wall issues here and there. The grout issue took a week or more to get that person out. The plumber who came out was on top of his issues really quick and resolved them quickly. The real issue was taking 3 weeks to get a guy out to repair some cracked tile. He pulled the toilet and set it in the tub. Fixed the three cracked tiles originally reported one being under the toilet. Issue there were two more cracked tiles under the toilet that the plumber pointed out when he came to put the toilet back in. Another week or two goes by and they finally get back out to fix the other two tiles. I went out of town on vacation and the tub where the toilet was left is now damaged and will need to put in another ticket on that. The tubs were also left with grout all over them without exception. With the exception of the cabinet company, the low voltage company and the carpet company people have showed up unannounced to do a repair, not a huge issue for me as I am unemployed currently, but I would guess this would be a huge issue for people who are working outside the home. I was also consistently no showed when I was told somebody would be here to fix the issues. I feel a lot of my issues could have been resolved upfront with a better-quality control up front. Still waiting(3months after closing)on my driveway and sidewalks to be properly powewashed. It still has red dirt stains on brandnew sidewalk and brandnew community. Other craftsmanship issues on interior of my home is becoming apparent. Other builders in same community have done much better job with powerwashing after completion of construction. Please address this issue as soon as possible. Highland home directly across street has same issue.

on your walk through "BEFORE" closing make sure everything is looked at even molding and seams on the wall. Check EVERYTHING and document it and have it done if possible before you close.

Workmanship is crap. The painters suck. My 9 year old daughter could do a better job. The trim used inside is crap. MDF garbage For a 500k + house I guess I thought it would be better.

Sheetrock in living room was poorly installed. I had to move my furniture four times while they tried to fix a botched drywall job on high slanted ceiling. That I was promised would be re-done. They kept patching it. Now the head guy is saying ‘it’s not in the warranty.” They rush through everything. Was walking on the carpet and had a tack stick me in my barefoot...I gave them a 3star on responsiveness because they got back to me a 2days-week later. Trustworthy: The sales team were great...the builders that’s another story. I don’t trust them. I think I got a good deal on price and extras...I just wished they had done the house right the first time. I can still see waves in my ceiling. I probably would've have had a better experience with a another builder. They just want your houses done quick no matter what the condition. No communication after 1 month there was a big 10×10 hole in the middle of my yard and no one said anything about until i had to complain of course and 3 weeks later and the hole is STILL there.

The house seems like it was rushed to meet our closing date, which we could have easily pushed back. Details such as internet availability was vague and misguided. Still don't have internet after nearly 2 months. Sales consultant seemed clueless about the tree removal behind house. Paint work is sub par. Floor is unlevel in several places throughout the house. Drainage around the house seems to be an after thought. Inconsistencies from house to house with same floor plan in the sections. Wrong fence per groves code installed on back fence line. Chesmar homes are building fences to code next to us. The construction manager has done a good job at meeting our needs with fixes. Seems the mentality is to build fast with disregard to fit and finish and try to fix under warranty instead of just taking the time to get it right the first time. Bricks uneven and mortar not installed correctly. The brick layer came back once to correct it and made it worst and use the wrong color mortar.The drainage in not slopped correctly and water sits in the backyard. The warranty representative suggestive that I purchase grass that will grow in damp areas. Sprinkler system not zoned correctly. I had to turn off half the sprinklers in order to water some of the grass that was replaced. If not then the area that does not drain water accumulates and just sit there longer then 48 hours.

Our house had no heat or AC for the first 2 weeks of owning it. We found the issue on the final walkthrough but we signed a form accepting it so we wouldn't delay closing. The weather was not too bad but we still expected it to be fixed. One weekend it was going to be very cold. Nothing had been done so I submitted a warranty request on the Thursday before and it wasn't even looked at until the Monday afterwards. We put an electric heater in out infant daughter's room but it was cold in the house. When I talked to the person on Monday she told me I should have just called the contractor directly and started explaining how they don't check the warranty requests every day. Thanks, next time I wont use the warranty claim form.... Eventually they got it fixed but when I buy something brand new I expect the basic systems to function. Other issues were minor like the stair spindles being crooked, gate wouldn't close, some surfaces weren't painted that should have been. They fixed all of those but again, if I am rating quality of workmanship and materials, even a 3 is generous given our experience. Plus they need a street sweeper in the neighborhood. I understand its under construction, but they don't even try to keep the streets clean. Our cars are filthy all the time. Again, a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. ... More

The home looks great, but the functionality is not there. Sound travels from the guest bath all the way to the master bedroom. The light switches are minimal and placed oddly. The air conditioner blows super loud. They installed a used dishwasher. The interior paint is the cheapest quality I've ever seen and scuffs at the slightest touch. The cabinets are not adjustable. The master closet was only designed for hanging everything, which no one does. The master bath doesn't have a place to hang towels near the shower. Little things that make a house feel like a home are not there with this model. Also, the construction manager told us to reach out, but does not respond. The house just feels like it was a rush job. Issues with cabinet paint and wood floors. Still trying to get repaired.

We had high hopes given the options and level of detail when we purchased our build. Then it was delay after delay. Then a rush to close before things were finished, only to find out that key utilities weren’t even up. Only after contacting the ceo for the master builder did we get anything addressed, I blame highland homes for rushing into closing without checking everything, had we known we would not have closed when we did. I’m still dealing with finish items that weren’t addressed with the home prior to closing because it’s now MY responsibility, not theirs to deal with the subs. We closed 3 months ago. ... More

I felt the response time in addressing some issues were very slow and some of the workmanship left a lot to be desired installing damaged goods are just not acceptable

We have previously built a new home with Highland some 13 years ago, and our past great experience was not matched this time. Not even close. They were resistant to even minor changes in the house plan, and one employee noted the business model had changed 4 or 5 years ago. Frankly, the house was just not ready for move in, and the punch list grew longer every day. There have been electrical issues, plumbing issues, landscape issues, and more . 8 weeks later we still have items not completed though staff says they are working at it. We clearly are not a priority. This experience with Highland has been disappointing to say the very least, and I could not in good faith recommend this builder to a friend. ... More

Quality promised was not present after closing. I am not happy & I should be.

My home buying experience with Highland is a mixed review. From a floor plan/neighborhood perspective they have very nice floor plan options that are in very nice areas. My sales manager, Sarah T., was fantastic! She was very honest about answering questions and extremely responsive. She walked through each phase step by step. Without a doubt she was what sold me on building with highland and making my experience pleasant. I also appreciated my lending team and my design center consultant. When it came to the project mgmt/construction side - things unfortunately were not as smooth. I assume things in Covid added a layer of complexity in terms of materials and timing, but that should not have an impact on the quality and finishes on the home. When it came time for final walk throughs and closing my home was "finished" with lots of missed items which proved a lack of quality assurance (cracked windows, screws missing from glass door, damaged tile, bathroom drains filled with corrosion, messy cocking, VERY THIN flat standard paint which comes off EXTREMELY easy, etc.). Also there were A LOT of construction remnants left for me to clean and fix in a brand-new house which I feel is unacceptable (I.e. paint spots on floors, pencil markings on the tiles, base boards not flush to the end of the wall, windows not clean, dust on counters, paint/cocking all over most light switches door knobs, and more). My project mgr was responsive but I feel it was hard for my points to be fully understood and made priority. Highland makes a beautiful - I have toured several model and completed inventory homes to confidently say this. What I would say for new buyers is stay on the project mgmt side and ensure they are doing what they should be in terns of finishes. I’ve been dealing with Loud clacking noises over the stove top since I’ve been here. My front porch has large gaps between the bricks I can trip and fall or my visitors. I have asked to this to be fixed. Very disappointed in the quality of the home.

I feel that the Highland promise did not live up to expectations. Cost was high, processed was rushed, too many errors and quality concerns. As one of the first to move in to this new development, extra consideration should have been taken to protect and assure a great experience. The people are very good people, but the overall corporate objective leaves a lot to be desired.

Great sales team, helped us through every phase. Not everything was finished at closing and construction supervisor promised everything would be done very soon. Over 2 months later we still have a lot to be done. Funny how once they have their money very little, other than empty promises, happens. I wonder when they’ll get around to fixing the details???
