Quality promised was not present after closing. I am not happy & I should be.

My home buying experience with Highland is a mixed review. From a floor plan/neighborhood perspective they have very nice floor plan options that are in very nice areas. My sales manager, Sarah T., was fantastic! She was very honest about answering questions and extremely responsive. She walked through each phase step by step. Without a doubt she was what sold me on building with highland and making my experience pleasant. I also appreciated my lending team and my design center consultant. When it came to the project mgmt/construction side - things unfortunately were not as smooth. I assume things in Covid added a layer of complexity in terms of materials and timing, but that should not have an impact on the quality and finishes on the home. When it came time for final walk throughs and closing my home was "finished" with lots of missed items which proved a lack of quality assurance (cracked windows, screws missing from glass door, damaged tile, bathroom drains filled with corrosion, messy cocking, VERY THIN flat standard paint which comes off EXTREMELY easy, etc.). Also there were A LOT of construction remnants left for me to clean and fix in a brand-new house which I feel is unacceptable (I.e. paint spots on floors, pencil markings on the tiles, base boards not flush to the end of the wall, windows not clean, dust on counters, paint/cocking all over most light switches door knobs, and more). My project mgr was responsive but I feel it was hard for my points to be fully understood and made priority. Highland makes a beautiful - I have toured several model and completed inventory homes to confidently say this. What I would say for new buyers is stay on the project mgmt side and ensure they are doing what they should be in terns of finishes. Also, if at all possible...do not close without these items being fixed. I am still having to lead that charge to finish my house I am paying for. ... More

I’ve been dealing with Loud clacking noises over the stove top since I’ve been here. My front porch has large gaps between the bricks I can trip and fall or my visitors. I have asked to this to be fixed. Very disappointed in the quality of the home.

I feel that the Highland promise did not live up to expectations. Cost was high, processed was rushed, too many errors and quality concerns. As one of the first to move in to this new development, extra consideration should have been taken to protect and assure a great experience. The people are very good people, but the overall corporate objective leaves a lot to be desired.

Great sales team, helped us through every phase. Not everything was finished at closing and construction supervisor promised everything would be done very soon. Over 2 months later we still have a lot to be done. Funny how once they have their money very little, other than empty promises, happens. I wonder when they’ll get around to fixing the details???

The initial experience with HH was fantastic. Sales lady is an amazing person overall and was very helpful throughout the process. The second superintendent assigned to my house was easy to work with as well, but that's about where the positives end. My house was rushed (finished 2 months "ahead of schedule") and it showed. Poor painting, very poor trim work, and floors not adequately protected while contractors still in the house leading to cosmetic issues. The grass was laid prematurely causing uneven ground and poor drainage, lots of trash left on the property after "completion", and just overall a lack of attention to detail. The superintendent assigned to my house 4 days before closing was stuck with a pile of junk and desperately rushed to fix the issues. I had to do the final walk through after I closed and all of the issues weren't resolved until 5-6 weeks after I moved in. I take responsibility for not pushing back on the close date given the state of the house, but I was continually promised it would be completed. Ultimately my experience showed me that the employees you will deal with on a day-to-day basis are amazing, but it is lead by a management team who is completely out of touch making poor choices and putting their employees in a bad position with the home buyers. ... Worst experience buying a new home. Through out the process Still trying to get things fixed Do not listen and do not care Just check the box

We still have outstanding items that need to be fixed. The laminate floor People blamed the floor issues on the carpet people and dull have not fixed my floor. A big hole was in the soffit. They came by and replaced the wood without painting it. Water was dripping through our room AC vent during the Freeze. Technician found no issues. Sprinkler system hasn’t worked since Freeze. Cabinet work had not been completed. Etcetera!!!

This builder has so much potential because there is a good product that could come if the building team took our home seriously in their work. The building team did not walk us through home building as it should have been done so many things were missed and even done incorrectly due to lack of proper oversight. I often voiced concern that I need more information prior to having meetings to decide on things but would not get the information I need prior to or even in the meeting. The building team should have walked us line by line what each category is and meant and not brushed over anything or asked in a general section do you see anything here you want. We are not building professionals. After move in our concerns were brushed off time and time again until I had to provide proof of other homes that I would go visit during their construction that had items we were told were correct (but weren’t) or couldn’t be done (but we’re done elsewhere). Our floor plan is so beautiful but the lack of care has caused this to be very stressful once we were in the home and finding out things and not getting the help we need. ... More

The materials are cheap. Replaced light fixtures in bedroom with ceiling fans and the fixtures were plastic and could not be more than $10. This is throughout the house - I could go on. The warranty department is non responsive. Still waiting for a response and have left serveral messages. The air conditioner is not working properly and will be the 3rd call directly to the company they picked.

The salesman was great . But I’m disappointed in the price of the house and the material that was used for the price of the home i feel Rob because everything in the home is cheap from the mds molding that looks like he goes in a cheap apartment not a 900k home

This is the first new home we have bought and am happy to have done this but there are many things that I wish I knew. First off, if you are buying a semi custom home from Highland do not expect custom quality. It was clearly explained to me by my construction manager (Don) that these are production homes and not to expect the same quality as a fully custom home. This really irritated me and showed the lack of pride of the employee and their management have in their workmanship. It seems like the sub contractors are lowest bid contractors and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Every single home on our street has issues and while Highland is getting to fix things, it is not quick, and done at the convenience of Highland, I fixed many things that needed to be done but waiting on Highland would have meant we would still be waiting. This is really a shame because from looking into Highland, they have a great reputation and I was expecting a better experience. Don’t get me wrong, we love our home, but all the little things sure do add up and have soured me. I think they can provide a good home, just be prepared to really look at everything when you move in to make sure any issues are written down and fixed before you sign off. ... More

My wife and I bought this home as our retirement home. We have had nothing but disappointment since we moved in. Dings and a chip in the bathtub, 3 dents in the garage door. They used the cheapest materials and poorest workmanship I’ve ever seen. Now in our retirement years we need to go through and replace everything. Very disappointed.

Dear Highland Home, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the quality of the home I purchased and the customer service I have received since moving in. I have experienced several quality issues, including: • Loose doorknobs (multiple times) • A bathtub with scratches and dents (the builder representative accused me of being picky and said they didn't think they could meet my expectations) • A broken faucet handle • Walkway cement with footsteps on top (the builder representative argued with me for 15 minutes about why I didn't bring this issue up during the walk-through) Master bath with water leaks through glass • A busted fence (the builder representative refused to take accountability for this damage, which was caused by the next-door builder) I purchased a Highland Home specifically because of your reputation for quality. However, the customer service I have received post-sale has been contentious and unhelpful. I have been met with pushback at every step of the way. Highland Homes has been taking too long fixing things around the house under warranty. Some items were detected before closing and few months later we are still waiting for these items to be fixed. Builder’s grade quality items and attention to detail is almost none. Highland homes says they contact the owner within 48 hours to fix warranty claims, it has been months, with both phone calls and emails, we are still waiting.

Due to the excessive time wasting that we have experienced during this process I am not inclined to be as detailed but I write this in hope that these issues will be addressed and taken care of expeditiously. I plan to reach out to those in leadership positions to resolve all of my concerns without escalation to litigation. We are extremely disappointed with the warranty processes and have experienced so many inconveniences and POOR quality of work. The contractors have verbally shared that they are NOT doing their best work because HIGHLAND has not compensated them fairly; this is unprofessional and unacceptable and WE should not have to suffer due to their discontentment . ... I feel like Highland was misleading and only concerned about closing out the project and getting paid. I still have items on my final punch walk (before close in Oct.) that have not been complete. The overall quality is Mediocre at best and when we make request to have items fixed we are told this is normal. We did not even consider another building during this process, which was my first mistake.. Coming from a person in commercial real estate construction, I hope things improve or you will be considered like everyone else.

Cheap quality product used. Unfinished work every where.

We are first time homeowners and we trusted Highland Homes for our first house but unfortunately it hasn’t been a good experience. We have been living in our new house for a little over 2 months and we have had people working here pretty much every week fixing things that were just poorly done. We pointed out those things on the blue tape walk through but they were not fixed so we had to go trough a lot of trouble to finally get them fixed. So far we have had 1 shower redone, the whole backyard redone, door frames, door hardware and we are still waiting for our curved island quartz to be replaced, floor tiles to be fixed because of the poor installation and the kitchen cabinet doors to be replaced as well. The quality of houses that HH is selling at least in this neighborhood is very very low and we just wish someone could have told us before buying from them. ... More

Don’t sign your closing docs until the builder fixes everything! It has taken me over 2 months to get everything fixed the right way and stay on the painters!! The builder has been very responsive about getting back to me but they are so busy building so many houses, their attention to detail from the contractors is not always good. We had to get the the patio and a portion of the driveway“floated” as there was acid/grease stains from the sub contractors, the painters (pretty sure the first painters were fired) had to come at least 5 times to fix things, and there were some finer details in the kitchen that were left unfinished/not painted. Bottom line, the house was rushed and not checked prior to the walkthrough and corporate would not move back the closing date. The materials/quality were good but attention to detail was lacking. ... I love my home, but the process was very poorly done. I had to get VP involved and once she was involved, things went very smoothly.

They over promise on home buying experience

My fourth home build - and my worst. The quality of the workmanship is very poor.

If you’re considering purchasing a Highland Home, I hope you’re reading this review in time to change your mind. In fairness, we purchased our home in Sienna Plantation and our neighbors have similar complaints, but we know others who own Highland Homes in other communities and are satisfied with their purchase. From start to finish, but especially at the finish, Highland was less than impressive. From our salesman giving us incorrect information to our home not matching the elevation we agreed to and ending with very poor craftsmanship, this house is nothing but a headache. I wish I could include pictures to show you, but here are some examples: multiple fans wobbled upon move in and had to be serviced multiple times, there are paint drips and smudges everywhere, paint splatter dots all over the floors, caulk all over the place, many, many, many cracks and openings in the trim and floor including a hole in the wall that was concealed by a support leg for our counter top, tile floor was installed with too shallow grout and had to be redone, shower floor was installed with very inconsistent spacing between tiles and and had to be redone, instead of cutting small pieces of tile to fit into the corners of our master bath, the installer filled those corners with big swipes of grout, grout and black wash from the tile installation is smudged all over the white trim in the bathroom, tile around the tub is poorly installed, especially at the edges, cooktop was installed at an angle in the kitchen, Silestone was the promoted quartz material at the design center, but our actual brand was a no-name, despite our sale agreement specifically listing Silestone, our backyard is a sopping mess and finally, the most egregious: we have RIGIDCORE installed in the majority of our house and the entire floor needs to be replaced. This is a floating floor product and the installers did not evenly spread the float beneath the floor, causing pieces of the floor to “touch down” to the concrete below and gaps between the floor and trim. Additionally, they installed the boards too tight with no margin on the edges for expansion, so our entire floor has peaks and valleys; in the sunlight, it truly looks like it’s a wave. The corners of the boards are chipping across the entire floor because of this. Some of these issues were noted prior to move in, but some we discovered after living here for a few months. Highland fails to hold their trade partners to a high standard and the builders fail to recognize these issues independently; it’s up to you to note all these flaws. Highland promotes that they have exceptional customer service and I would agree that they are quick to respond to items outside of “warranty”, but then drag their feet to get the work done. I would personally rather have a house that doesn’t have these issues instead of spending an absorbent amount of time trying to get them fixed with “excellent customer service.” ... More

I thought I was buying a decent home until i moved in. The FIRST weekend, the plumbing backs up on us!. There was a stake in one of the trees that a genius landscaper stuck so deep into the ground that it cracked the cheap pipe that was used for the plumbing. To their credit, highland homes fixed it the same day. Week later, i discovered a roof leak due to a leaky roof jack. This was fixed a few days later. Now ive realized the ac installer that highland choses for my area is one of the worst rated hvac installers in Houston. They never tested the static pressure on the ac, the coils were full of sand, several vents were installed backwards, etc. I expected far better than this considering the price of the home . ... More
