Prior to buying the house we had extensively communicated that it was very important to my wife that the two oven system in the kitchen be changed to one oven system so that the microwave could be lowered and be of use to her. We were promised support in this regard but unfortunately that promise was not in the contract. The undeniable fact is that after spending near $700K and 50 days post closing I have an unhappy wife with the promised support for modification not done. I will never ever recommend Highland Homes to my contacts.

It’s my fault that I was in rush buying a home and therefore I end up buying a home with many faults. Jonathon ( manager) is a great guy and very helpful every situation but the house itself has many defects such as pendent lights, back porch concrete, interior walls r not straight , kitchen sink , breakers r Turing off itself quite often and many more. They replaced my pendent lights at least 5 times but still couldn’t get it right and I was lied about the situation. Basically, after third party doing a job , there was no one from Highland to inspect the job quality. I am thinking to buy another home and most likely not from Highland. ... More

The experience was the worst I have ever had in buying a home. Our realtor, Hector and my finance person didn’t get a long, they were pointing fingers at who was at fault, Hector went so far to add me and my wife on the email chain, and the result ended up causing us to miss closing and having to move twice. We emailed Hector’s boss about how unprofessional this was and his boss still to this day has never acknowledged or responded.. No one cared that all the unprofessional behavior cost us, the buyer, thousands of dollars to move and store our items until we could get closed. The VA inspector reached out to Hector for a week, with NO response, then when Hector finally responded and scheduled the inspector the home did NOT have appliances. The house has had several issues, that if anyone really looked they would have been fixed, 2 doors with door handles uneven, one much higher than the other. Underneath cabinets paneling falling off, paint was sloppy, the painters have been back several times. The yard has an open ticket now, our grass is dead, we noted this in walk through. We thought we were buying a good quality home from a trustworthy builder, but we were totally off, it's been really painful starting from the permit submission that was not done on time and even worst the person accountable lied about it... We moved almost 8 weeks ago and still have pending thing to be fixed... The house floor plant is so beautiful but quality and how Highlands manages materials is a shame. Worth to highlight the Engineering interest to fix things but unfortunately he has too many things to do. The builder should reformulate it's strategy and try to get things done right first time. ... Our experience with the sales team from the beginning has been excellent. However, our experience with the construction and warranty department didn't align with the Highland Homes reputation at all. We would like to provide more details if contacted by Highland Homes Customer Services team, however, below are some experiences where we felt that we (as buyer) and our time were not valued at all by builder's team: After closing: * Some of the crew members didn't show up during the scheduled window (to complete the items from affidavit) and had to wait for the whole day and follow up with construction managers to get things done. * There are a couple of items from the affidavit for which we are still waiting (despite multiple reminders to the construction manager) even after more than 2 months from closing. * Had to wait for a month and also had to request multiple times in order to get a simple response (about the HVAC system invoices) from the construction manager/local warranty customer care representative. * Even though Highland Homes says that a customer care representative will contact us within two business days from submission of warranty request, so far we have not been contacted at all (and it has been 2 calendar weeks from the day of warranty request submission). Overall, our experience with the construction and warranty team so far DOES NOT encourage us to recommend Highland Homes to any of our friends/family members. We will really appreciate it if someone (who cares to make a difference) from Highland Homes contacts us and addresses our concerns. ... More

Customer service is very very Bad

The subcontractors were abysmal. The sheetrock seams are horrible. The "finish" work on the trim looks like a child put it in. The concrete in the driveway, garage and patio are pitted, gouged, and have boot prints in them. As I write this, the master closet ceiling and upstairs bathroom vanity are torn out as water is leaking through the ceiling. The absence of professionalism even extended to unhuman behavior such as urinating in the shower to the point where the smell prevented us from going into the house, and there was even feces rubbed on the painted wall in the bedroom upstairs. I cannot stress enough how shocked, disgusted and disappointed we are in Highland and this house. ... More

Worst buying experience ever. Many many issues with the house once we moved in. Plenty of excuses, broken breaker, air condition was hooked up wrong, drier connector was broken. Maintenance men didn’t show up twice on two separate occasions. Just a mess

We have had many many problems with our new home, which include Quality control with workmanship and several warranty issues, including the AC. Our AC shut down after only 6 weeks and the company we are required to use made it extremely difficult to schedule service. They also will not allow us to lower our thermostat below 72, which we were never told would be an issue when purchasing the house. Upstairs rooms don't cool properly because of mistakes made during installation and the AC company refused to come out to fix for a whole month because it wasn't an emergency. We have a roach issue in the house, despite paying our own pest control to come out 3 times in 8 weeks. We have never had this issue in the past. These are baby roaches also, which does not result from construction in the surrounding areas. This means there is an issue in the home. We were mislead upon expressing interest in the home and told that the lot size was 2000 sq ft larger than it actually is. We expressed that this was important to us and were still mislead with an inflated size estimate twice. Granite in the kitchen is chipped but chip was concealed with amber colored resin. Our backyard floods with water whenever it rains for a few minutes, which worries me when it comes to future heavy rainfall. The construction manager John has been extremely nice and helpful where he can be but I know he can only help so much. I feel the house we moved into was not the luxury home that was advertised to us and its very disappointing. ... More

Bad paint job. Paint/stains all over floors and doors. Garage concrete is completely stained and chipped. Construction did not follow design and preconstruction design notes. Floors lifted by trim. Doors don't close right. Drawers slides are not smooth. I think my expectations were to high choosing Highland, should of known something was off when the sales rep took us to tour a house and they couldn't believe how much trash there was. I do believe more supervision should be done over the construction crew not only in design but in constructability.

As first time home buyers we had an awful experience with Highland Homes Sales Team. Very poor customer service. Both Andrew and CeCe are very untrustworthy and very dishonest. True “Salesman”

Bad quality work no Finishing in work lot of dump in sheetrock ,rough painting in cabinet look cheap

I was disappointed immediately after moving Into our home. Many electrical problems that required me to wait for the tech on multiple days. One day he didn’t even show up. We were told that all appliances were tested. Which would of been impossible because my dishwasher didn’t have power going to it. So a flat out lie. No one inspected the house, or they would have found multiple outlets with no power and the crossed wires in my garage. The home’s media box where the modem and router go are at the furthest point in the house. Sadly we have poor signal because of this. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HOME FROM THEM. ... More

The building process was a nightmare due to the construction managers that oversee your home build. They had zero concern over quality or workmanship by the contractors and nothing was made right by them. We have built before and never thought it would be this bad. I’m not kidding! By from a different builder!

We’ve bought several new homes in the past 20 years and I must say this is the worst by far in regards to quality, workmanship and service. We selected Highland in Wright’s Landing 50’s based on the advice of our broker and the fact that our last neighborhood in May Valley only had Highland and Village Builder homes - which were of superb quality. The appeal of selecting an employer owned company was also attractive because of the assumed personal attachment to the craftsmanship, quality and details of the finished product. The contractors used in the construction process simply either don’t care or are incompetent or both. Sadly, construction management does little to reinforce these issues. The experience was so disappointing, that the director of construction management for the greater Houston area changed project managers after we closed on the home because of his ineptitude. The second construction manager was much, much better but unfortunately it was too late to change our perception of Highland. It is hard to believe that painters would be sent out 5 times to retouch the same spot on a wall, which is still shoddy. Can you believe that we were told by their electricians that it is acceptable for our lights to dim and flicker when we vacuum or use a blender because this is a byproduct of the house’s energy efficient design? (We were literally told this by Highland electricians two weeks ago). Their main concern was to get us to sign the affidavit, which we begrudgingly did due to the exhaustion from this process. We are embarrassed to tell family and friends that our new home is a Highland product and to tell them the unfinished, sloppy concrete stories (which still exist) or the tacky cabinet and doors finishes issues (which I am looking at now). It’s interesting to note that the sales experience was amazing. This poor rating addresses the pre and post construction process and poor customer service related issues. It has been a very disappointing experience. Many issues to fix with the house after moving in. Very poor paint job in some of the rooms, issues with plumbing, the dishwasher wasn't installed properly and leaked on to the floor. The flooring needed replacing after this, but 6 weeks later it still hasn't happened. A light fixture in the kitchen has been broken for 4 months. No replacement in sight. I now dislike my home because of the experience the builder has given me.

I recently purchased a new property from Highland Homes, and I must say, the experience has been extremely disappointing. Here's why: 1. Poor Workmanship: The quality of the construction is far below what one would expect for the price. Numerous issues have arisen, from uneven flooring to poorly finished walls and faulty plumbing. It’s evident that the craftsmanship is subpar. 2. Low Quality Materials: The materials used in the construction of the home are of low quality. Doors, windows, and fixtures all feel cheap and have already begun to show signs of wear and tear within a short period of moving in. 3. High Prices: The cost of the home is exorbitant compared to the quality delivered. You are essentially paying a premium price for what amounts to substandard housing. 4. Poor Responsiveness: Trying to get issues addressed by the builder has been a nightmare. Customer service is unresponsive, and when they do respond, the solutions are either inadequate or delayed significantly. 5. Lack of Trustworthiness: Overall, the experience has left me with a deep sense of mistrust towards Highland Homes. They make grand promises during the sales pitch, but fail to deliver on almost every front. In conclusion, I would not recommend Highland Homes to anyone looking for a new property. Not the best experience for first time home buyers. Unprofessionalism from sales agent to the builder.

The finance part of our home buying was fantastic. No complaints there, but the construction part of the home buying is horrible. The workmanship of our house is very poor and the value for the price paid is not worth it. The response to issues is a joke. I have purchased homes before and this is by far the worst experience I have ever encountered. Highland should be ashamed of presenting their homes to buyers like this. Truly a lack of customer service. Customer service is what makes America great. I've had 4 builds in under15 years and this has been my worst experience. (My previous builders were Lennar, Castle Rock, and Long Lake Ltd...wonder builders, experience, and quality of work) COVID-19 and logistics had no bearing on oversight/quality of craftsmanship. (Excuse used "TRUST THE PROCESS" it will be corrected in the end...I can't trust the process when I don't have experienced Project Management/Oversight). I've been in my home 90 days and still have unfinished work. Highland Meridiana will be receiving a poor BBB Report to make customers aware... Foundation: Blueprints not followed I even told the PM prior to them pour the foundation yet they had to tear-up bust bathroom foundation to move tub plumbing. Foundation poured on raining misty day my back porch and garage are horribly finished due to weather conditions. Driveway: Poorly done cracks/major breaks (redone because I requested it. Structure: Poor Material Used damaged lumber used (identified by me and external inspector) Dry Wall had severe waives in master bedroom I Identified and had them redo. Craftsmanship: Rework/Sloppy work, unable to make proper 45 degree cuts to form 90 degree angles. Front window over garage was not level (spouse identified...PM swore it was taping...yet after putting a level on it it was deemed un-level. Arched windows were not insulated properly...I identified prior to dry walling, Door Frames broken in 3 rooms they attempted to just paint over or add caulking to hide again I identified and had them correct the issue. Second story floors not screwed securely squeaky/sounded like paper when walking on them. Carpet not properly stretched seams in most notable places Dripping paint....redo, loose stair treads redo; bad cabinets redo, as you can see it a theme of poor quality work with constant rework. Front door unlevel insects able to enter through top. Water sprinkler system two zones failed, rewire. Lights flicker in home when AC or Vacuum turns on, Garage door, squeak tremendously with large knocking sound. Dishwasher repaired 3 times, then finally replaced. Vent hood installers 3 separate trades 90 days still not installed...(Parts on back order...etc ordering wrong parts...lack of oversight) $700K Lemon...I wish there was a Lemon Law for Homes I would give this one back if SO! Worst buying home experience ever. Quality of home is horrendous

I closed on my home in March and builder still has not completed my master bath. Upgrades that were paid for were never installed. Untrustworthy project managers! I had my home inspected before closing and manager said he fixed problems and never did! I’ve had to put in so many warranty requests, I’ve lost count! My husband and I rearrange our schedules to accommodate them and they are constant no call, no show. We are contacting our attorney. Enough is enough! We paid so much money for this house. The CHEAPEST labor and materials are used but they Charge you a premium. They gave us an incomplete home stating everything would be done prior to close. Instead they rely on the warranty and that takes months to complete. So instead of enjoying a new home, you are dealing with the incompetency of the builders and the terrible contractors they use for months on end. Joseph and Giovanni give you a ton of attitude if you point things out that are done with poor quality, not done at all or done incorrectly. I could keep going but won’t. Bottom line...STAY AWAY!

High price and poor costumer service

After 1 month closing. The grand new AC has issues. AC leaking water down to the ceiling and dripped to the floor. Highland Contractor just repaint the effected area. Big Tex still don’t know what happened to the AC. Same thing happened after 2 weeks. Called Big Tex Emergency many times nobody respond. Very disappointed.
