Not as good as it was in 2013

This was our second Highland Home. Planning on it being our last, the initial experience was good, but went down hill with a temporary showroom and lack luster selection. Then our Construction Manager was out sick from just after foundation pour till a month before closing. Never the less they kept building, we would walk through on weekends and notice that there was work going on but under no real supervision. Needless to say there were issues but luckily I contracted a home inspector. We wish people were honest and trustworthy but at the end of the day I don’t know what I’m looking at ...

Highland Homes - We contracted on our home in October 2020 and did not close until

We contracted on our home in October 2020 and did not close until February 2022. There were many delays from our foundation being poured incorrectly that halted the progress on our home. We paid a premium up charge for painted brick only to have crooked unlevel bricks installed throughout the exterior. We had upgraded carpet that was installed prior to the finish out of the home that was not protected and allowed workers to walk throughout home leaving muddy boot prints. Our closing date changed 11 times from September 2021. We had 5 closing date changes in January 2022 alone. The day we ...

Workmanship in different communities are not the same as other communities also the customer service. Highland Homes should have same standards in all of their communities. Would not purchase another Highland Home.

The main issue is Insulation in the house, there is no privacy. I can hear the conversation happening in the living room in my Master bedroom and vice versa. We also hear the highway traffic in our master bedroom. There are some minor things where we see that builder has tried to save money, it's not worth it. I am not sure if I will recommend highland homes to anyone.
Highland Homes responded:

I was offered no sit down meeting with Construction Mgr to identify specific requests. Construction Mgr clearly didn't stay on top of workers. It was a lot of measure 1x, cut 3 or 4 times, increasing time and reducing quality. Had to force replacement of roof. BSG is the worst sub contractor, don't let them touch your house, they filled mine with holes because of poor communication with construction mgr and they also did shoddy work. Get a 3rd party. Exterior vents were taped on and open to pests. Ensure you get a 3rd party inspector for all aspects of the house prior to closing so they catch ...

The workmanship is absolutely terrible. The subcontractors that actually build this houses don't care about what they are doing. There is trash everywhere. Beer bottles galore. One trade builds something and the next trade breaks or damages it. It's your average built house. They could do better.

Highland Homes may have built it’s better reputation in the early 2000’s for innovative, functional and almost high end quality materials. But in the recent years it’s quality and workmanship seems to be faltering. It’s been 86 days in our new house and there are already numerous issues of workmanship and quality of products installed. Had it not been with the construction manager and sales agent. I would rated it 1 star.
Highland Homes responded:
Hi There, Thank you for taking the time to leave a response about your experience and I am sorry to hear of your displeasure with the perceived quality of products used in your home. I understand from our team that they have been actively working with you in an attempt to improve some items you are not pleased with. While I do understand that there are some unique issues, most concerns are of the quality and standards we show in our model homes and we believe are well above industry standards. We pride ourselves in providing all of our customers with the highest quality home possible and remain committed to our customers throughout the home-building process and after, well into the warranty, to help get everything completed and to your satisfaction. We closed on our house with an affidavit for needed repairs/home finishings. We assumed it'd be done withing 14 days. We're over 2 months in and all of the repairs are still not complete. We've had to take multiple days off work to accommodate contractors, etc.! We had a third party contractor show up at our house to serve us a hand written "notice" that they haven't been paid by Highland and plan to take action. I met the guy while he was building the deck before we purchased the home. It's not my first pick of people to have showing up in the evening angry with my 15 month old in the ...

We closed almost two months ago and they are still working on our house. I feel the work has been sloppy and not well done. It looks like I am fixing a used home instead of moving into a new home! I would not buy from them again! My mistake was closing before the house was completely finished!!! The price we paid does not reflect the quality of the home. We are very disappointed!

While our Highland Home looks nice from the outside, it has been one frustration after another assuming ownership of this house. From failed promises to install a barrier wall that resulted in a vandal driving through our front yard (in a gated community, no less) resulting in hundreds of dollars of additional watering fees due to re-sodding, to HVAC duct work coming apart in the attic, to many other small to large issues, this has not been the experience described to us as we selected this builder and community. Perhaps ours is a unique case, but it doesn't feel that way when we speak to ...

Very unsatisfied with the responsiveness of our contractor at Veramendi location. Many of the same issues were brought up multiple times with clear communication on our end regarding quality of workmanship and incomplete work. The contractor would make excuses and often times would not even be aware that the various tradesmen never showed up to complete work. Disappointed to see on our final walkthrough that several of these issues still remained unresolved. Weeks after moving in we are still trying to complete the list and take time off from our busy schedules to be available for the work ...

We specifically told the Highland Home Representatives, unlike others we were in no rush for the home but rather wanted quality work and material used in the process verses speed in trying to move into the home. What we got was very poor quality work that required us to bring in a third party inspector and maintain a detailed list of issues that required no less than four internal inspections by us and continueing to maintain and demand the list be addressed in order to get through the buying process. You have zero quality control in your process and only look to push the home out in hopes ...

The home is beautiful and we love our lot. The actual experience has been really poor. From a list of items that still have not been addressed since move in (8/2/19), to $1500 water bills, to no mailbox keys for 6 weeks and misspelling of our last name on a "gift" from the builder. I would say that, if given the chance again we would not move forward with Highland Homes.

The more time I spend here the more issues I find with the home. It is quite obvious that the builders go as fast as possible without attention to detail, resulting in imperfections throughout the home. One issue for example is that I find dried up paint on the carpet or flooring throughout the entire home. I have been slowly trying to fix this but it's an issue that shouldn't be there in the first place.

I have been in my new home for 2 months and there are still MANY repairs that need to be made that were not done before we closed. But since we are in the home now, they are "warranty" issues. I did not have a working oven for a month because they electricity wasn't connected. I have had a mason come out 3 different times and I still have a hole in the wall outside. I have tiling, cabinet, sheetrock, and paint issues. There are walls that I'm sure are supposed to line up, that don't. I don't know how many appointments I have had for trades to come here to make repairs and there is very ...

whew. here we go. We moved into a new build home by Highland Homes in August 2020 and have found so many issues with build quality of the home, as well as drainage issues on the land. Land/ Property: Drainage issue was brought up during construction in March/ April and was not assessed until we threatened to pull out of home purchase in August. This is still ongoing even through October 2020. Have had 2-3 development managers come out and discuss adjustments, a few fixes have been made to little or no avail, but it should have been discussed/ adjustments made to the property back when we ...

Hi Judd, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a detailed review as it better helps us to understand opportunities for improvement. I’m sorry to hear that this was your experience and after speaking with our team, I see that our Construction Manager has been working with you to address these concerns as well as help accommodate items that were due to a defect. The yard issue is 100% an event that originates uphill due to overwatering. Although this water is not puddling next to the home, the swale area is damp at times and we felt an obligation to install drains to try to resolve this issue. This has been an attempt to be able to guide drainage better and includes surface river rock & adding a 3rd drain ...

This is the first home we have ever built. The process was less stressful than others warned us it would be. Highland Homes finished the house ahead of schedule, however not everything was complete. After walking through the house with the construction manager, we had developed a list of issues that needed to be finished. The construction manager signed a contract to have the issues completed within 14 days. It has now been 7 weeks and only half the original list is complete and we have made a completely new list of issues we have noticed. We were also told in writing we would have ...

Very difficult process working with Highland. Both closing and builder repairs have been a bad experience - based largely on promises from Highland that they inevitably break (sometimes almost immediately). Setting up closing went well, but the morning of closing I was told the home wasn’t actually finished. I should have seen this big red flag. I went back and forth for a few hours trying to get them to delay the closing for their failure to complete the home on time - but I was promised that everything would be completed within 48 hours of closing. Based on the relatively short list of ...

Well there were many excuses. Change of builders, weather, rushing/more time, etc. They literally built my garage in the wrong spot and then messed up the island. Luckily we caught the island in time to fix it. But I now have a garage that is not functioning the way I needed it to be. The tile for backsplash was awful. There are holes and missing paint throughout the house. Fixtures were the wrong color. The quality assurance didn’t happen. Literally no one walked the house and tried to fix anything before we showed up they just built it and let us move in. We had a leak in the bathroom the ...
