For the most part, the experience was pretty good. Whether it was the sales person or the loan officer that was all a great experience. What was not a great experience was the sloppiness of following up on actions needing addressed prior to and after closing (entry light crooked, master tub faucet leaking, etc.) and the lack of quality painting throughout the house. We spent an entire day scraping paint droppings off of our tile floor just so that we could seal all of the tile throughout the house. I assume it’s hard to find good painters, but someone should’ve followed up after the painters finished and made them clean up after themselves. With the amount of money that was spent to purchase this house, I expected better. On a different note, all of the warranty items that I have requested action on, have been followed up on very promptly, and they have been doing a very good job in this area. ... More

The more time I spend here the more issues I find with the home. It is quite obvious that the builders go as fast as possible without attention to detail, resulting in imperfections throughout the home. One issue for example is that I find dried up paint on the carpet or flooring throughout the entire home. I have been slowly trying to fix this but it's an issue that shouldn't be there in the first place.

The home warranty was explained fully by your representative. However, when having submitted our varied requests for service through the website, there was NO, repeat NO, response towards resolution nor even an attempt to contact us. When after notifying the warranty representative, we have yet to hear anything in response. We are sadly disappointed since some of the issues were known prior to closure. Unacceptable comes to mind.

Cheap materials, extremely high prices not suitable for the final product. We bought almost 2 months ago and we are still dealing with the same walkthroughs issues from before closing time.

My experience with Highland Homes was exceptional! Working with Rikki, my sales counselor, and Cliff, the Construction Manager was seamless from start to finish. Communication and workmanship was wonderful. I highly recommend Highland Homes! Plus, I really liked reading the history behind how Highland Homes came to be.

My husband and I chose Highland Homes because, in the past, we have had great experiences with the builder. Our experience in the building process was very good, but once we moved in, we learned that there are things that were done poorly that will not be fixed because they're not "warrantable items." It is disappointing that things are breaking and materials aren't of the quality that we paid and now we have to deal with it. Sales process was easy. My sales consultant did a great job. The home is beautiful. We got everything we wanted. Now, the attention to the little details is HORRIBLE. There are so many things that need to get fix that if the workers would have been paying attention, it would have gotten done correctly the 1st time. Now, I'm having to take time away from my week to be here for repairs. It's ridiculous and very annoying.

From front-office sales to back-office builder and warranty support we have been treated extremely well and could not be happier. The quality of build and general experience has been fantastic. Debbie and Lindsay made the sales process extremely smooth and fun. Dave supported us on the build side and made the entire process fun and turned around warranty items extremely quickly. In the later stages getting settled into our home Lane took his time to do an additional warranty walkthrough and showed Highlands support for the foreseeable future. We like our home overall and the options and features that were offered. Unfortunately we’ve found many quality issues in the first couple of months that we’ve lived in the home. Many of them were things we brought up prior to moving in to our home. It has been very disruptive to our lives working through the warranty process to resolve issues and often requiring multiple attempts to resolve the issues. Many of the issues we’ve just elected to resolve ourselves because they’re things we’re capable of fixing it and we don’t trust that it’ll be done right. Very poor experience during the home building and buying process. This was our 5th new construction home so we knew it was going to be rough but could never have expected it to be as bad as it was. Everything on this home had to be done twice basically because people weren't help accountable (the brick even had to be torn down and new brick installed - windows wrong color - wrong fireplace etc.), construction quality was extremely poor for this price point (closed over two months ago and still don't have everything complete - CM is great, things just move extremely slow), paid extra for upgrades that were never done (still working to get it resolved). For example, I paid to upgrade bathroom fixtures and they just installed the cheaper ones and never said anything. I questioned them on it and it is still not resolved (said a back-order issue but this was in my change orders at the design center from a year prior to construction). This is the first home we have ever built. The process was less stressful than others warned us it would be. Highland Homes finished the house ahead of schedule, however not everything was complete. After walking through the house with the construction manager, we had developed a list of issues that needed to be finished. The construction manager signed a contract to have the issues completed within 14 days. It has now been 7 weeks and only half the original list is complete and we have made a completely new list of issues we have noticed. We were also told in writing we would have traditional mailboxes and Highland did build them. Apparently they did not have approval from the USPS which wanted community style cluster mailboxes for the 19 homes being built. USPS has refused to deliver our mail for 7 weeks now because of it. We have to drive 20 minutes each direction to the post office to wait in line for another 20 minutes to receive our mail. Highland has stopped updating on this issue or any of the problems with our new home. ... More

I was offered no sit down meeting with Construction Mgr to identify specific requests. Construction Mgr clearly didn't stay on top of workers. It was a lot of measure 1x, cut 3 or 4 times, increasing time and reducing quality. Had to force replacement of roof. BSG is the worst sub contractor, don't let them touch your house, they filled mine with holes because of poor communication with construction mgr and they also did shoddy work. Get a 3rd party. Exterior vents were taped on and open to pests. Ensure you get a 3rd party inspector for all aspects of the house prior to closing so they catch all boo boos. For the price, a lot of what is installed, if you didn't upgrade is low quality, the shingles especially. The appliances are wonderful. You really have to watch these folks, they'll try to get away with anything they can. I had less stress with Meritage and paid half as much. I guess I paid for the neighborhood. Construction Mgr promised to address punch list items within 90 days of closing; he never returned. He left the community, when I reached out he said submit it under warranty. Warranty responded quickly on 2 items, but their contractors are hit and miss. Not impressed. ... More

Number one thing is be patient and courteous. Everyone is from sales team to construction team treated us with respect. Even minor issues and repairs were addressed swiftly and professionally. Bob our construction superintendent was a true pleasure to work with. His shared knowledge of the housing construction process helped relieve a lot of our stress!

Despite the aggressive housing market that was summer of 2022, Highland Homes set themselves apart from other builders-the buying experience was as seamless as possible. From the sales team, to building team to financing; all were extremely responsive to questions and concerns and willing to make our home a reality. Supply chain issues might have caused delays, but quite honestly the building managers and supervisors pressed their crews to finish with limited delays. We can't say enough positive things about our experience. With some minor minor issues after closing, all have been scheduled and soon to be completed. We have moved into our dream home built by Highland Homes. Rikki our sales counselor was there to answer all of our questions and get things done for us. Cliff and Chuck, our builders did an excellent job on the home and Cliff has followed up on any issues we have had and immediately resolved them. Thank you Highland Team for making this happen.

In an effort to keep this review brief, I will only list our general experience. Communication with our construction manager was poor throughout our build process. Our home inspector identified enough items to complete a 30-page report and we nearly walked away due to the severity of some of the issues. A mere two months after closing we have had 18 (yes 18 and counting-with at least 5 more visits pending) repair visits to address/rectify the multitude of problems with the home. Highland has the potential to be one of the, if not the best, builders in the area, however, the quality and workmanship fall short on nearly every level. I have been in my new home for 2 months and there are still MANY repairs that need to be made that were not done before we closed. But since we are in the home now, they are "warranty" issues. I did not have a working oven for a month because they electricity wasn't connected. I have had a mason come out 3 different times and I still have a hole in the wall outside. I have tiling, cabinet, sheetrock, and paint issues. There are walls that I'm sure are supposed to line up, that don't. I don't know how many appointments I have had for trades to come here to make repairs and there is very little that has changed. I work from home. To have people in and out of your home making noises disrupts my work. I went to 3 different Highland Models just to see how they look in comparison to my home and it just made me angry. They don't care about the owners once they are in the home. They are off to sell the next house. If we didn't constantly reach out, I honestly don't think anything would get done. I even had one of the trades tell me my complaint about a wall switch was petty when they came to make the repair. Needless to say, it didn't get done. I could seriously go on, but I feel like its pointless. It is really exhausting. I would NOT recommend Highland Homes to anyone. As soon as you ask about making a change to something since they have so much to do, they are quick to tell you it wont be covered by warranty. Building a home with Highland Homes has been a great experience for us. Despite all the supply chain issues, our project stayed on track and our builder, Chris, was very responsive to our questions and to any issues which arose. We love our new home, and we’re pleased with the options and upgrades we chose. We have a few minor issues, but having built a home before, we know those are to be expected and we have every confidence they will be addressed by Chris and his great team of sub contractors.

Excellent experience. Great quality.

Accepting the fact that building a home Post-COVID is extremely stressful makes the experience much easier, however, having a building team like Caleb, Austin and Almalic is extremely comforting. My wife and I are Blessed to have had such a team on our side!

Working with Thea was amazing. She followed up on everything and was really understanding throughout the process. She guided us all the way and when she didn't have an immediate answer, she always got back to us in a timely and accurate manner
