Every door knob has fallen off, the hardware is so cheap. 4 toilets and every handle is missing pieces in the back. Washers missing. It’s embarrassing to bring people in to my home. The toilets and tubs backed up in 1st week. The stench of sewage was something we had to live with for a month, with a one year old and three year old. The worst thing is I have kids and the rails have fallen through upstairs. Allowing the ability for one of my kids to fall through the railing. Can provide time stamped pics for everything. The water heaters were not working for the 1st month of ownership. They were replaced. My kids had to bathe at a family members home for weeks. The lack of insulation is insane. Builder made promises at the time of closing that they have not fulfilled close to 3 months after closing. Bathroom cabinets are broken, missing fixtures, unpainted items, etc.

The actual buying process was ridiculous. The sales agent was not informed, and what’s worse didn’t appear to care if she didn’t have correct, timely or complete information. The home design is lovely. The light, the layout and the function is beautiful. If there was less upper loft area, which could be dedicated to larger second bedrooms, the plan would be fantastic. The workmanship behind the walls seems to be competent. The finish work is bad, among the worst I’ve seen. Looking at the details of finish, you would think the subcontractors do not care about their work. Additionally, they do little to protect their, or others, work, so many parts need to be replaced or redone. Having said that, the responsiveness of the warranty team has been terrific, thus far. We may not always agree about things that need to be addressed, but they are always courteous and show care. Hopefully that will continue as we move forward. Highland Homes builds beautiful homes. Workmanship issues with various crews and insufficient quality control resulted in many issues. However, Highland Homes does attempt to resolve the issues. The process is slow but steady.

So many things still need repair as we closed before all work was completed properly due to rising interest rates. Plumbing failed within 4 weeks of moving in and backed up into the bathrooms. Shane is on top of these things and I will be happier when all of the work is completed, but for the price point on this home, I expected things to be much better.

I don't know how things are with other builders, but my experience with Highland Homes was okay. I loved working with my sales counselor, who is hands on, attentive to details, and responsive.

Take lots of pictures and document everything during pre-construction and construction, and especially during blue tape. monitor utility meters as soon as possible, just so your not blindsided 2 months later of a water leak that was never discovered. just goes to show, anything can happen. Started out as a second home made it harder to keep up with everything. Over all above average.

We are disappointed with the house and wish that times were different so we could have bought from a different builder.

I purchased a speck home that was already designed. Color scheme chose was pretty. Disappointed in a lot of the workman ship in the home however.

But because of the home being built so quickly, there were many things that were overlooked. Our two main upgrades (Lot size & master shower) were not completed to our liking and we are still resolving these issues. Also the sprinkler system was set up prior to moving in and it was set to run three times a day, every day and our first water bill was almost $900. It would have been nice to know that issue before moving in. Very frustrating!

The finish work of our home was below par. The building manager did a great job addressing the items. If I could do it over I would not have closed until the majority of the items were corrected.

The quality of products and material used in a 735K home is poor. The floor is painful to walk on due to no padding under wood and low grade padding under carpet. Wall finish is matte. Shower marble tile was not even attempted to look cohesive.

I bought the model home that was 6 years old. I was told that I had a warranty. NEVER NEVER did they tell me differently. I have an issue with the refrigerator that came with the house. I asked about putting in a warranty and was told then that there was NO ONE YEAR warranty on the home. I was told that they GAVE me money back to buy a 3rd party home owners insurance. The paperwork I saw, after closing, seemed to say that highland homes was paying for the insurance. Been informed now that that's now how they understood it. Bottom line, it's a very nice home BUT Highland Homes was NOT open and honest with me about this. I trusted and believe them when they told me that I had a warranty. There’s too much to negative items to list on this second Highland home purchase. I’d like to highlight that there are still items that are not repaired or replaced. Craftsmanship and quality control lack in this caliber of home. Professionalism lacks from the sales agent of which we never met or greeted by. Again, this is our experience with Highland homes.

We love the layout and floor plan, however, that is the extent of our happiness. For the most part, every sales rep and/or project manager or superintendent was pleasant to work with, but the follow through was lacking. The quality of workmanship and materials was abysmal, not something worthy of aligning itself the reputation Highland Homes has come to have over the years. Simply put, anyone on the executive leadership team would be disappointed...except for maybe the person trying to cut costs or save a dollar, it shows with the contractors working in this subdivision. In some aspects, we are heavily using the 1 year warranty to get things right, in other aspects we are doing it ourselves because we take pride in our work and attention to detail is of the utmost importance. Very poor experience during the home building and buying process. This was our 5th new construction home so we knew it was going to be rough but could never have expected it to be as bad as it was. Everything on this home had to be done twice basically because people weren't help accountable (the brick even had to be torn down and new brick installed - windows wrong color - wrong fireplace etc.), construction quality was extremely poor for this price point (closed over two months ago and still don't have everything complete - CM is great, things just move extremely slow), paid extra for upgrades that were never done (still working to get it resolved). For example, I paid to upgrade bathroom fixtures and they just installed the cheaper ones and never said anything. I questioned them on it and it is still not resolved (said a back-order issue but this was in my change orders at the design center from a year prior to construction). We are happy to be in our new home. Sales process was great. However, post-close, things are less than desirable. More than two months after closing, original punch list is still not complete. There is little to no communication and no sense of urgency. Hate to complain on social media, but hoping this will get someone’s attention that can take care of the punch list.

I am reasonably disappointed with our home. I DO NOT think we got what we paid for. I have owned a number of homes over the years, several of them were new construction homes like this one. While this one was the most expensive by double, it was the least well constructed. Too many cost-cutting measures. As an example, for a home that cost over $750,000, EVERY home on our block has the exact same outdoor fixtures (excluding doors which are an option). The master bedroom closet is well appointed but the poles that hold hangers are extremely cheap and skinny 3/4 inch diameter instead of 1-1/2 inch wood poles as would be expected in a home of this price. It appears that subcontractors are either required or encouraged to slap their parts of the house together as quickly and cheaply as they can, and then they ARE PAID to come back and fix mistakes later. Tell me how this doesn't always end in the subcontractor being financially encouraged to screw up. We had to have nearly the entire roof replaced prior to closing due to just this kind of effort. The home is turned over to you in a manner described by the supervisor as "Contractor Clean" (His words and this was related to me by my neighbors as well). I would not want to live in a home with a contractor if this is the case. Just cleaning my floors required 4-5 hours with a Swifter and an entire box of Swifter pads. It was filthy. One of the guest bathroom tubs had a dent with rust in it prior to mounting COMPLETELY installed with tile around it so of course when shown prior to closing, all of the tile had to be removed in order to replace it. Two months after closing, we are still having to get things repaired not because they have failed, but simply because they were allowed to be left uncorrected. Outdoor fence was installed with only one nail on each support, randomly placed and disrepair a guaranteed occurrence with the first wind. I have never, ever had a home this poorly constructed. EVER. To their credit, the sales rep and the construction supervisor have a positive attitude and do make the effort to assist us but the people who make decisions over this process are clearly overpaid and underqualified. ... Highlands was highly recommended to us. But the workmanship was not close to what we saw in model home or website.

Our home was rushed to close. The day of closing it was not complete and we were promised it would be that day. Shame on us for trusting. We expected outstanding quality with highland homes, we did not get that quality. Everywhere I look I see a rushed home build. So disappointing.

We just really like the models , no coality, cheap stuff.

The sales reps Thea and Patti were great. They made our home buying process go very smoothly and made us feel very comfortable. Once we moved into the house we found that fans in the ceilings of the bathrooms were not screwed in, vanity lights were screwed into the dry wall instead of something secure, the base boards and door frames are very cheap material and will not last very long. Grout work on the tiles was done very sloppy. The backyards were not leveled out and barely any dirt was put down under the grass. Seems that the individual in charge should have been walking through the homes more often to ensure the workers were doing a good job. Seems as though some of the people working on the homes are not qualified and don't know exactly how to do their jobs. We found a lot of alcohol bottles in the home when being built so these workers are drinking on the job. We paid extra to buy the lots looking at the greenbelt but the workers threw a ton of trash in the greenbelt. We asked for the builder to clean that up but got no response. These homes are close to the 1 million dollar price tag and we expect good quality materials and better workmanship. Overall for the price we paid we were disappointed in the quality of work that was done in the house. When you are building homes in this price range you should have more oversight on the work being done and use quality materials if that is what you are charging. ... More

Workmanship in different communities are not the same as other communities also the customer service. Highland Homes should have same standards in all of their communities. Would not purchase another Highland Home.

This was our second Highland Home. Planning on it being our last, the initial experience was good, but went down hill with a temporary showroom and lack luster selection. Then our Construction Manager was out sick from just after foundation pour till a month before closing. Never the less they kept building, we would walk through on weekends and notice that there was work going on but under no real supervision. Needless to say there were issues but luckily I contracted a home inspector. We wish people were honest and trustworthy but at the end of the day I don’t know what I’m looking at and it’s a lot of money we are paying for to have second rate contractors while being charged at a level of licensed contractors. As we got closer to closing we come and find out that we requested matching hutch and they didn’t submit the request in time so we didn’t get what we originally agreed to and are stuck with someone else’s mistake of being overwhelmed with paperwork and fill other people jobs. Currently going through the house getting ready to submit repairs orders just having to deal with this can be overwhelming. We contracted on our home in October 2020 and did not close until February 2022. There were many delays from our foundation being poured incorrectly that halted the progress on our home. We paid a premium up charge for painted brick only to have crooked unlevel bricks installed throughout the exterior. We had upgraded carpet that was installed prior to the finish out of the home that was not protected and allowed workers to walk throughout home leaving muddy boot prints. Our closing date changed 11 times from September 2021. We had 5 closing date changes in January 2022 alone. The day we closed on the home there was trash all throughout the yard and had to ask multiple times to have it cleaned up. We are still finding nails and razors in our yard. We closed with about 20 items incomplete on our affidavit and are still waiting to have the last remaining items remedied almost 3 months later. Our warranty list of items after move in is quite long from improperly installed frameless shower to damaged doors. The builder seems to be dragging their feet with most of these items and we have not received the quality and service you would expect from a builder when you purchase a 600k plus home with what is supposed to be a premium builder that prides themselves over customer service. ...
