The home is beautiful and we are really happy that we managed to get a home with Highland in this crazy market. Out of the builders we looked at, we could tell Highland had good quality homes.

Long distance purchase builders very helpful showing stages of development

i have noticed many cracks in my home mainly at the window corners. they gave me a colour but still its brand new home. there should not be even one spot to criticize. door locks were all loose, door lock is not aligned properly, if you call them for repair they show in time.

Highland homes are nice homes. I closed on my home three weeks before I moved in. I went over the "punch" list and left a key for the workers to complete it before I moved in. A lot of the things were not completed and I am still waiting for it to be done over 6 weeks later. The cleaning of the home was sub-par. Attention to detail was horrible. You would think for the price you pay, it would have been better. I love my home but expected better customer service.

I moved in the end of April and have put in 2 request for repairs and haven't heard back. I had a crack in the master tub when i moved in and my vanity draw has fallen out.

This was my 2nd Highland home and it’s beautiful. Was completed ahead of schedule.

The home buy experience was very easy. It was less stressful then other homes we have bought. The quality of a Highland home is amazing. They take the time to show you how to operate all the modern convenience.

Sales team was great pat and kitty. Home loan process was fairly good. Hank was awesome. Christi was helpful but confused me on a few items. Spencer has been good and responsive for warranty. Main issues drywallers did a poor job. Walls appeared bowed or sloppy, outlet cuts are huge when replacing switches with smart switches, the plates don’t cover there big cuts. Some walls missing texture. One wall had a soft spot but was fixed. Mortar/bricklayers guys did a poor job as well. Tons of mortar voids all over. Several walls the bricks are not straight and bowed inward. Tile guys did alright for the most part but could improve. A few backsplash tiles are crooked. ... More

Overall experience was great & process relatively hassle free.

My search for a home took some time but I chose Highland because my realtor said that they were the best builder around this area. Some of the choices in design leave me scratching my head but I’m making some changes there. My concern is the quality of the build overall. The home is less than a year old and it has several cracks in the bedroom where the ceiling meets the roof line. My neighbor has a jagged crack inside where the balcony floor meets the living room and cracks in her pantry where the shelf supports meet the wall. That house is also less than a year old. There is also a concern with the way my electrical has been installed. Loose bare wires in units as well as nicks in wiring were found when installing ceiling fans and dimmers. I will probably end up checking all outlets and switches to make sure they’re secure due to issues some of my other neighbors have had. These homes are being thrown up so quickly that I feel quality control is not being maintained. So far issues I’ve had have been addressed promptly except the cracks and I’ve brought that up recently. The entire ceiling seam should be redone. These homes are not cheap and shouldn’t have these kinds of problems so soon after construction. At least it’s still under warranty but what will happen after the year is up? ... More

Miguel (builder) has been wonderful. He has been thorough, responsive and patient. I feel that he takes my questions seriously and cares about the quality of the home as well as my experience in the entire build process.

Overall we did have a good experience with both our Highland Rep and the builder. We were disappointed that we did not get the specific model that we wanted, but understand the limitation with repetitive designs. We would indeed work with our rep (Ashley) our builder (Shane) and would buy Highland again. The flat pain on the walls is probably the one issue we had as it marks up very easy and required significant touch ups after moving in. Had other, minor fixable issues when we moved in but overall very satisfied with our home.

Building a home during a pandemic was going to be a challenge under any circumstances. While our build took quite a bit longer to complete than originally thought, we believe Highland was able to do it the fastest of probably any builder at the time. The most important thing to note is that at the end of this process, we still adore our project manager, Matt, and salesperson/assistant to anything we ever need, Lesli, and that says a lot! We consider them both dear friends. It was so reassuring to always feel that the people working with us were on our team, they advocated for us because they cared about what we cared about. Any issues that arise can be handled well when you have a team like this. And now that we’ve lived in the home for a few months, as things come up (and they always will) Highland is prompt to address any concerns. Our only lingering concern is the amount of construction debris, plastic and trash that is leftover and strewn across the beautiful acreage adjacent to our home. They of course tried to contain this but wind carries trash away and the field really needs to be cleaned up. We bought this lot because of the beautiful views and they don’t fill us with joy like they did before we built here because of the trash….there are two levels of fencing separating us from the fields or we would clean it ourselves. We are still hopeful it’s part of the plan that this will be cleaned up. But overall we are thrilled with our home and would choose Highland again. ... More

Lots of concrete at bottom of foundation, grass unable to grow very unprofessional very disappointing, my last home were a Highland Home.

Highland Homes does a great job laying out the plan, locking in the price, and then providing flexibility in the build as things progress. They do quality work and are responsive to questions along the way. Very transparent and honest; trustworthy.

Love our home, had some challenges with supplychain issues

Our home seller was outstanding (Brittany Kennedy) she responded to ours concerns very quickly and efficiently. She was very patient and understanding with us. She was the main reason we bought here, because of her professionalism and expertise. I would recommend some improvements to these houses like: Wider front doors Bigger guests room Overall compared to other builders in the area Highland Homes are better quality

I have used Highland Homes on three different occasions with the previous home being built 30 years ago. All three previous experiences were very positive so selecting them last year for my 4th home was a no brainer. I didn't even show around. I realize building standards are not the same as it was 30 and 40 years ago, but this most recent experience took my off guard. Covid really took its tole on the building industry back in 2020 with equipment and materials being in very short supply and the workforce down to skeleton crews in many instances. Four years later the industry has definitely recovered, but with some disappointing changes. The first eye opening experience was during my selection process. The standard options were selections that were sub-par and in many cases, outdated. Upgrading to a more dated selection cost dearly, even for a slightly higher material. Due to the high prices, many times I kept with the standard selection and scarified what I really wanted. After a short time I felt like I was in the middle of a bait and switch scheme. It became almost laughable. By the time I completed the selection process I was very disappointed and frustrated. The next eye opening change came with the cabinets. If there was a corner to cut - literally - it was taken. The width and depth are much much less than in any previous home. Case in point, there are drawers in the master bath that are 2-1/2" wide by 3" deep - just enough room for a tube of toothpaste if you place it on it's side but not enough room to include your toothbrush. If a dollar could be saved, they were sure to take that route. There were additional upgrades I had not considered until that particular phase of construction was in progress. For example, the plumber was installing the plumbing fixtures when I realized the standard size garbage disposal was a 1/3hp unit. I am accustomed to a 3/4hp so I asked what my cost would be to install a larger size. Their markup was 300% above a reasonable price! Requesting any upgraded material or equipment during construction was at least a 300% increase! This was extremely frustrating. Eventually I purchased upgraded materials and equipment on my own and hired a contractor after closing to install for significantly less than if I had let Highland do the work. Personally I believe this is wrong on so many different levels and is unacceptable. And finally, I believe there were a few subcontractors that were not at the level I had expected from Highland. There were times I felt they selected a different subcontractor just to keep the project moving because their usual sub was not available. This is merely my opinion and may not be the case at all, but it sure felt that way with a few "high profile" subcontractors. My field superintendent was a great guy! He did everything he could to satisfy my requests. If I was disappointed with the installation quality, he would have them re-do it. That level of customer satisfaction went a long way with me and I was very grateful for his consideration. The four and five stars given in my review were because of him. ... More

The builder made many promises to correct some issues. Never completed!

I signed the home purchase contract on February 11, 2024 and closed on October 10, 2024. I hired an inspector before my final walkthrough. Unfortunately, the gas pipe to the heater was not even connected for testing on October 1. Having great respect for Highland Homes as a Trusted builder, we took their promise that the heater would working and it shouldn’t be a concern. We are very disappointed when I had to suffer 2 days without the working heater for my new home when the temperatures plunged to 19 degrees outside. The house inside temperature dropped to 49 degrees in the morning and finally reached 51 for the high on January 6 and January 7, 2025, which caused us great pain and suffering as I was concerned for my 87 year old mother, who I care for ,living in such a cold conditions. ... The house is nice but built quickly and thrown together.

We chose Highland Homes based on their reputation for quality, communication, and strong warranty service. Our construction experience reflected that—everything went smoothly, and Danny, our construction manager, was outstanding. He communicated clearly, stayed on top of the timeline, and made the entire build process seamless. Danny deserves a full 5 stars. Unfortunately, our experience with the warranty side has been the complete opposite. A month after moving in, our backyard tree died, despite plenty of rain and proper yard maintenance. Additionally, a gate hinge had come loose—likely due to wind sometime between our final walkthrough and closing. While I fully understand that no one is perfect and there are rules and disclosures in place to prevent misuse of warranty services, the issue wasn’t the problems themselves—it was how they were handled. Nate, our assigned warranty manager, came across as dismissive from the start. He offered excuses for every concern, spoke to my wife in a condescending tone, and seemed more focused on defending himself and Highland than listening and empathizing. During my own conversation with Nate, I found myself frustrated—not because I didn’t get my way, but because of the complete lack of empathy or ownership. He made sure to mention his accolades with the company, which seemed more like a justification for not helping than a way to reassure us. I did apologize to him for getting frustrated, but throughout the entire interaction, he never once said something as simple as, “I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.” A little empathy and common sense would’ve gone a long way. In the end, I reached back out to Danny, who kindly helped us address a few lingering issues. I truly appreciate that, and again, Danny is a major asset to Highland Homes. But unfortunately, Nate's approach to customer service left a bad taste in what was otherwise a positive experience. It’s disappointing because it wasn’t about getting everything covered—it was about being heard and treated with respect. I chose a Highlands Home because of its stellar reputation for quality work. However, I don’t think Highlands has completely delivered on the townhome I purchased. Highlands responds in a timely manner to my concerns. However, there’s (at least to me) a defensiveness to my critique of some of the carpentry workmanship, especially the trim work done on the baseboards and door mouldings. As of the writing of this survey, I haven’t even moved in yet, and I’ve noticed the moulding around ALL the doors is separating and in some places, pulling away from the wall. I have voiced concern about the shoddy trim work and I have requested that it be corrected. Maybe the trim guy for the work done on the townhomes in Sherman Texas needs to be replaced. Also, I noticed that the shower frame is not level. As for the smart home features, I love them! I also, appreciate the double-paned windows. ... More

Loved the quality of the home, but I do wish certain things I knew what I know now. I do wish they have a better option at design center and not charge u so much for little things like tiles I’m sure they already have that price included in the house
