From Excitement to Frustration: My Disappointing First-Time Homebuying Journey with Lennar Homes

  • San Diego, CA

My first home was a significant milestone, but my experience with Lennar Homes fell short of expectations. While I am thrilled to have a home of my own, the process felt disjointed, transactional, often frustrating with numerous communication issues and unresolved challenges. Communication during the home-buying process was inconsistent and heavily one-sided. While Lennar’s representatives did communicate when they needed something from me, they rarely responded to my questions or requests. This left me frequently reaching out and “fetching” for answers rather than receiving proactive ...

The volume of paperwork that could not be changed nor copied to have someone else look at it was ridiculous. Why send it if no changes can be made. We have not been impressed with the electrical outlets in the house.

Customer service is not good. The master bedroom shower is useless with no tap at the bottom and sliding glass door is hard to clean. The master bedroom wic is literally in the corner you have to walk through the bathroom to get there and there is no power outlet in it. I told my desire what type of home I am looking for but the Lennar team was very cold. They didn't help me to find my first home to be my dream home. I wish it could be my dream home. The team you have is not supporting at all. We moved from New Jersey for this home. The team was not cooperating with us to find the perfect home

The sales person I bought the home from retired and left me with no one to ask questions. When I tried to find answers., I would be routed several times before someone knew the answers. The person that helped me the most was the loan person. The loan person was very helpful and patient and I give him 5 stars. If it weren't for him, I probably would've walked away.

The start of the process was great, the sales team and mortgage group did an outstanding job (great communication, attentive to questions and concerns and just a pleasure to deal with). The walkthroughs were ok, a bit rushed and even items pointed out prior to the walkthrough weren’t all corrected (some weren’t corrected after the first walkthrough, and were rushed to correct just prior to closing), because of this several items were missed. The warranty group, although they are polite, they did not address the issue we were having and even closed the warranty ticket after an escalation ...

We bought our first starter home from Lennar some years ago and had a positive experience about it, so we thought “why not” when we received a call from the new home consultant about the availability of a lakefront property at Northlake, a community four miles from the Sacramento Metro airport. We couldn’t be more wrong! Sales – I am one of those buyers who was willing to pay more for upgrades. It is apparent that Lennar cared more about how they got the job done quickly than customer satisfaction. There were either no or very limited upgrade options to choose from - cabinets, ...

Do not use Lennar mortgage. Maybe it was just my loan officer but phone calls weren’t returned. Emails not answered and I was told I was getting money back at closing. Then I wasn’t. Then I was. I was told to put 10% down but it turned out it should only have been 5%. Then I was told PMI had to have insurance on it in order to get it cancelled if I paid it off early. Then I was charged $7000 for it. Go to any other lender. Not lennar lending.

Unfortunately the quality control of their homes is non-existent. I have found issues with EVERY SINGLE TRADE!! I am an engineer by trade and run a construction company so I do know how good work should look like. Flooring / Tiles: Floor in general is off level. Had to add shims to almost every piece of furniture in the house. Very poor quality installation. Also found a couple of broken tiles as well. We have warranty items that have been identified to Lennar to be fixed. Some items like exterior doors that let air come through the threshold. This is a critical defect that is making our energy cost spike that has yet to be fixed. We have to keep rugs in front of the doors to keep our heat in. Other items have yet to be given an estimated time of completion.

I was warned that Lennar builds cheap homes. I should have listened. It all started on the intial pre-closing walk with our superintendent Luis where we gave him a punch list of items that needed to be addressed. Six days later (1 day before our closing and when we were to move out of our current home) I was called by Luis and told he couldn’t get the majority of things done but he promised we would have them addressed starting the week after we closed. So, we trusted him and on Thursday, October 17 we closed and got our keys. That is the day we started noticing there was more than a punch ...

Not the best experience purchasing a home with Lennar. When I decided I wanted to put an offer on my home they would not allow me to because their “incentive” was to close on as many houses before the end of month. This was a Friday and the new month started on that following Monday, so instead of allowing me to put an offer on the house for the sales price on Friday, I had to wait until that Monday where the price increased by $30k. Extremely frustrating and honestly ridiculous! I loved the house and the location so instead of walking, I decided to purchase. My final walk through before ...

My experience with purchasing a new build from Lennar was horrible and will Never do it again. The construction and quality of build was exactly as expected. The financing promised was misleading and in the last 30 days before closing I was forced to find a new lender. The recommended “sister” company handed things off to a new associate who constantly asked for items he already had access to. Additionally they blatantly lied to me regarding their efforts to verify employment which delayed underwriting who then changed the loan terms right before closing costing me around $10,000 over the life of the loan. My advice is to find your own financing and avoid the headache.

The homebuying experience was rough. First, we were not allowed to use an agent, which made me feel at the mercy of Lennar when going through the process. Second, our home concierge was terrible. She would update us on the status of the house late in the night. On inspection day, the house was not ready and had to reschedule after we were already present at the appointment.
