Bought a New Fixer Upper

Would not buy a Richmond American Home again. Grew up in a family with construction background so very familiar with quality and to rate quality would be a 0. The house was complete disaster and unclean upon receiving Keys. Everything we had asked for was denied. Even during walk thru and something as simple as door bell not working and comment made was "I wouldn't want one anyways, who wants to hear a door bell?" well needless to say, I believe there is a simple reason for having a door bell. LOL...anyhow absolute nightmare and they are very pushy to get you to close escrow without them on ...

All team members from sales to completion failed to communicate with one another. Poor or NO customer service!

This review is being written jointly by husband & wife but this form only allows for one name. As requested, it is being written as to what we would want a new home owner to know. Don't expect cohesive customer service from any team member from sales thru completion of build. Note: when you do punch list, add a note indicating other things may be discovered after moving in (i.e. plumbers failed to connect dishwasher hose/drain hose up causing flooding of cabinetry under kitchen counter; carpet installers failed to put carpet strips over tacks underneath carpet at entrance ways to tiled ...

Between a 2 month delay, showing up to a scheduled walk thru 3 times to a home that was clearly not ready for a walk thru, the superintendent not providing a completion date but instead saying "any day now", not communicating with utility company to understand what is pending, the home left sitting with minimal progress for 4 weeks while they wait for a meter, not fixing/completing any repairs leaving it all for us to submit claims AFTER moving in, 2 months after move in only completing 1 repair, & continuous lack of response from superintendent and customer service; what was supposed to be ...

Cutting corners, no oversight with the trades, serious issues with the lot and interior

I had to close twice because of the lack of the certificate of occupancy. I could never get a real closing date in order to schedule my movers. I lost $1500 at the 2nd closing that I wouldn't have lost in the 1st closing. There was no oversight on the trades such as my entire floor of the house. It wasn't leveled before the LVP was installed leaving hills and valleys in my flooring. My beautiful quartz countertop on the kitchen island has a extremely visible seam directly down the middle...as do the countertops by the stove. Doors are hung correctly to be able to close. An uninstalled ...

From the start, we were bait and switched on a " promotional" interest rate. " get down here by tomorrow to get this rate", Then when we make the decision to commit to the largest financial purchase either of us had ever made, only to be told oh, wait, you cannot get that promotion because of a construction production issue. So.. we held up our end, but they mess up and we pay for it. Turned out, par for the course with Richmond. Next, the builder would not work with us at all during the build, we stepped into a build that had already started, however, it was only a concrete slab, ...

One of the 1st to buy and last to move in because they failed to preplan and see that the pole in my lot needed to be moved, took 2 yrs for me to move in and because it was rushed there have been all sorts of issues with the house. It's no wonder there have been several Class Action Lawsuits brought against them!

My experience was very bad from the beginning. The seller deceived me into signing a contract and giving my deposit by offering things I did not received. When I brought it up to a management absolutely nothing was done. I moved into a home I am not happy with. I will give them a zero if I could, the whole process was very bad.

Poor Construction Quality and Worse Warranty Coverage

  • Chi-Lun H.

The house was purchased under the assumption that it is new and will be covered under warranty if something is not right. That was a big mistake. The house was not ready on the date of closing with plenty of outstanding defects identified during pre-closing walk-through. The builder was not willing to fix them all before closing and forced us into closing or lose the deposit. The construction crew were working on the house even on the revised closing date. Then the repairs just stopped after closing and we have to chase down the superintendent constantly to work on the promised repairs. ...

This experience has been an absolute nightmare. Two days after move in, our downstairs bathroom flooding raw sewage. A month and a half later we’re STILL waiting for fixes! The super rarely answers the phone, and if he does, he has no idea the deadlines of material. The installers show up unannounced WITHOUT supplies because they thought Richmond was supplying everything. It’s a cluster mess and miscommunication around every corner.

Since starting the process with Richmond American homes it has been a nightmare. The only good person i meet was the Sales agent, everyone after him has been horrible. I have been living in my home a month and I still cant get the company to fix all the all the problem I have in. these are problem that have been mentioned since I did my initial walkthrough of the home. Richmond had too many houses they closed on in the same week so mine got half done. Paint, drywall, doors, trim, stucco, list goes on forever needs final touchups that were never done before closing. Really expect a better quality for a brand new house at this price. - Sales agent cancelled our contract and falsely stated it was agreed upon by purchaser/seller. - We were provided 3 different start dates of construction in 6-month timeframe. Earnest was placed on July of '23. Build did not start until February of '24. - Our several requests for change in sales agent was ignored. - We've had to file a police report on their sales agent for harassment. - Sales agent stated our selected options were all in order. By far this has been the worse experience ever. The entire loan process was ridiculous and overkill, the house was filthy dirty when i received it, my fridge is missing a filter, my garbage disposal wasnt working and i had to pay out of pocket to fix it. I had beer bottles left in my backyards and still had some tape left from the marked areas that needed fixing. Very dissatisfied and the only reason that I finished the pricess waa because of my situation I was in. Beautiful homes but that’s all.

My first walk-through went smoothly, and we addressed all issues. However, my second walk-through was disappointing. I drove two hours only to find that the issues hadn't been resolved. Disappointing Experience with Richmond America

Our experience with Richmond America has been extremely disappointing, primarily due to being misled multiple times throughout the process. First, we were lied to about how the incentives work. Additionally, we were given an incorrect cash-to-close amount, which was nearly double what we were initially told. Despite having my child support amount accurately listed on all signed papers, I was treated with suspicion and accused of lying about it. This resulted in the child support not qualifying, and I was required to pay off all my remaining debt to get approved. This process took about a ...
