Disappointed in Craftsmanship and Quality Control

While I would like to commend our sales representative, Claudia, for her professionalism and assistance throughout the home-buying process, I encountered several issues with the quality of my Richmond American Home (RAH). Just for starters, the floors are not level. The flooring throughout the home is uneven, creating both aesthetic and functional problems. Also, the tile for both bathrooms were substituted, but the grout used was the color for the original tile...this should have been thought out by the builder and designer who substituted the tile, but it was not. Now I have lovely tile ...

We purchased a home and did the final walkthrough etc and all was taken care from the list our inspector provided. Their was one issue that wasnt…water dispenser from fridge. We were told part had arrived and scheduled the technician to repair. Technician arrived no part was given to us and tech knew nothing about it. The technicians made several trips and still hasnt been fixed as of 11/25….moved in 10/11. My wife or I have had to take time away from work and be at the house each time. Appears to be no sense of urgency or desire to get this resolved. Lesson learned….always have issuues ...

Not a very good after closing support for a remote buyer.

When buying a home remotely from Richmond American Homes, I expected a certain level of support and care, especially as a buyer. Unfortunately, the experience has left much to be desired. I closed on my home without being present for the final walk-through or the first two weeks of ownership, trusting that all was in good condition. Shortly after moving in, I discovered that three trees had fallen on the property while I was absent. I asked the builder to stand them back up, which they did, but the trees quickly died. When I reached out to report this, hoping Richmond American Homes might ...

After moving into the home I realized that all the appliances are very poor quality. My dishwasher was not working.. I had to call several times to get it fixed. not sure how it passed inspection. It is now fixed. The master bathroom doors are backwards. I have to get wet with cold water to turn the water on. Not a good experience. I expressed concern about this and I was told that it is correct. How is this possible? Who has to get wet with cold water every time you take a bath. Not happy about this… Landscaping issues on the back of the house it floods really bad. House gutters ...

We agreed to purchase this home while still under construction when a major leak under the slab was discovered. At that point along with other issues like the grading of the property where water collects around the foundation I no longer wanted to continue with the purchase because of potential problems in the future. In the agreement once they have your money they are not obligated to give it back to you even if the problem is on their end because they are supposed to fix it but the repairs done to my house were band-aid repairs that they won’t accept for themselves. Most of the blue tape ...

THE BAD. Our house was filthy after closing. Workers used our bathrooms, broking promises by builder in regard to our driveway. Paint spots on carpet in every room. The tile floor had paint specks and excess grout and some type of adhesive spots. Bathroom counter top had silicone smudges all over them. THE GOOD, The neighborhood and residents are great. The house house has a good layout. The sales team and superintendent seem to care

To who it may concern. We were never offered coach lighting now we see homes with them, we ask for some outlets to moves up for easier TV viewing (Pre Dry-wall) and could not get a response on the additional moving of the outlets. We would've paid for the modification if we needed too. Lots of builder grade materials and now the homes are lower in price with more upgrades. Just not a very professional experience at all for the wife and I!!

Richmond American Homes responded:
Unfortunately, additions and modifications are not always available on our quick move-in homes, since much of the planning and permitting occurs before the home is listed for sale. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the outcome, but I appreciate the opportunity to hear your feedback.

My Richmond American Home Building Experience - its not about relationships

We just purchased an Idaho Richmond American spec home. Although it was a spec home, we entered into a purchase contract just as the build began. The Richmond sales team was very friendly and reachable in those early days. We signed their contract and completed their down payment early. After that though, everything changed. Now the salesperson and project manager seemed to avoid us. Their prior promises really didn't seem to matter anymore. For example, one promise they made was that the build could be prioritized and the completion date advanced if we needed it. We needed it. Now though, ...

I have had nothing but issues since I decided to purchase a home. First was the purchase process where documents just given to you with nobody reaching out to make sure you understand them. If it wasn't for my agent I would have been lost in this process. Fast forward to the house itself. Worker did sub par work. During my walk through there were several things that needed to be fixed, door left open at end of business so anyone could walk in my home and beer in my refrigerator from the workers. Even after the walk through I had multiple issues with damaged ceiling, poor paint job in some ...

Love the overall layout and most of the workmanship, and the lot/view is what ultimately carried the day. On the other hand, the negatives are numerous. Appliances are a HUGE disappointment for the price of this home. Most are complete crap; dishwasher is a joke. Now that we are painting the entire house (making "contractor white" go away), we are finding all kinds of workmanship issues with the drywall joints, texturing, and initial painting. 3-car garage must be designed for Prius's; can't possibly park normal-sized vehicles next to each other inside and comfortably open a door. Don’t go without a Realator and don’t believe the salesman John he will say anything just to make a sale and the he will lie and say he never said it. He had us fly from Hawaii for the frame walk and the project superintendent was not ready to do the frame walk because the home wasn’t ready for it. Remember your not to hold them up in anyway but it will never be there fault if they are not ready when they inform you that they will be. As for the quality of the home I would have expected it to have been much better. The drywall in the home is already cracked in one of the door frames by ...

Nice floor plans and lots, poor agent communication, some poor craftsmanship, very poor work order follow up

The floor plans and lots are nice. The sales agents seldom gave updates, and was very hands off and everything was “out of their control”. There were frequent delays, communicated last minute, with vague reasons give. The day before closing, we were told it was delayed, yet again. The day before closing! Several rollover items from the final walk are still incomplete. Several new work orders after move in are still incomplete, going on over a month.

Our experience with Richmond American Homes was one of chaos and confusion. The sales team lack the ability to communicate. Three times the closing dates were moved, but the sales team would not inform us until the before and in once instance we were not informed until the day we were supposed to close and get our keys. I recently purchased a home from Richmond American Homes (RAH), and while the overall experience had some positive aspects, there were significant issues that need to be addressed. **Quality of Construction**: While the materials used are good, I was disappointed with the craftsmanship. There were noticeable flaws in the finishing touches, indicating a lack of attention to detail. Additionally, throughout the construction process, the workers left the property extremely dirty and even buried trash in the yard, which was unprofessional and frustrating to deal with. **Design and Layout**: ...

Buying experience was interesting to say the least. Very intrusive with the Mortgage process… However, what was more shocking was the builder and the Superintendent’s attention to detail and lack of follow up on my needs. I was not made to feel like I was number 1 so why would I make you feel like you are number 1? Poor service and lack of communication. This is who you have representing your homes? Wow. All concerns could have been easily remedied with proper follow up and proper communication. Never received a 30 day walk. Still trying to reach them…

We were rushed to close and did first walk through. Numerous issues pointed out and marked. A week later for follow up walk through nearly nothing was fixed. They rushed that day to fix a couple things and said they would get the rest taken care of. Stupid me I trusted them. It was not a pleasant experience as the home we wanted was told it was sold while in actuality it was not. The home we purchased has issues that are not being resolved. Poor quality of paint resulting in painting with superior paint prior to moving in. Garages are all too small to accommodate larger pickups. And the real clincher was looking in the attic above garage are ceiling joists with incorrect bevel cuts still used offering little ceiling support. Obviously inspectors don’t do their job.

This is my 4th new construction, all with different builders and the quality of the workmanship has been the worst so far. After a month none of the “within 30 day” repairs have been completed. Several rusty nails have been found in the front and back yards. The yard has many low spots in excess of 6”. The sod along the back fence was dead, promised to be fixed and never was. First off, the house itself is very nice. The floor plan is awesome, the materials aren’t bad. It’s a very welcoming home. However, 1 month later.
