My Richmond American Home Building Experience - its not about relationships

We just purchased an Idaho Richmond American spec home. Although it was a spec home, we entered into a purchase contract just as the build began. The Richmond sales team was very friendly and reachable in those early days. We signed their contract and completed their down payment early. After that though, everything changed. Now the salesperson and project manager seemed to avoid us. Their prior promises really didn't seem to matter anymore. For example, one promise they made was that the build could be prioritized and the completion date advanced if we needed it. We needed it. Now though, ...

New Home Purchase

I have had nothing but issues since I decided to purchase a home. First was the purchase process where documents just given to you with nobody reaching out to make sure you understand them. If it wasn't for my agent I would have been lost in this process. Fast forward to the house itself. Worker did sub par work. During my walk through there were several things that needed to be fixed, door left open at end of business so anyone could walk in my home and beer in my refrigerator from the workers. Even after the walk through I had multiple issues with damaged ceiling, poor paint job in some ...

It's A Shame You Can't Live In It First...

Love the overall layout and most of the workmanship, and the lot/view is what ultimately carried the day. On the other hand, the negatives are numerous. Appliances are a HUGE disappointment for the price of this home. Most are complete crap; dishwasher is a joke. Now that we are painting the entire house (making "contractor white" go away), we are finding all kinds of workmanship issues with the drywall joints, texturing, and initial painting. 3-car garage must be designed for Prius's; can't possibly park normal-sized vehicles next to each other inside and comfortably open a door. And ...

Don’t go without a Realator and don’t believe the salesman John he will say anything just to make a sale and the he will lie and say he never said it. He had us fly from Hawaii for the frame walk and the project superintendent was not ready to do the frame walk because the home wasn’t ready for it. Remember your not to hold them up in anyway but it will never be there fault if they are not ready when they inform you that they will be. As for the quality of the home I would have expected it to have been much better. The drywall in the home is already cracked in one of the door frames by ...

Nice floor plans and lots, poor agent communication, some poor craftsmanship, very poor work order follow up

The floor plans and lots are nice. The sales agents seldom gave updates, and was very hands off and everything was “out of their control”. There were frequent delays, communicated last minute, with vague reasons give. The day before closing, we were told it was delayed, yet again. The day before closing! Several rollover items from the final walk are still incomplete. Several new work orders after move in are still incomplete, going on over a month.

We are completely pleased with the workmanship of our new home. However, we were not satisfied with our Richmond American agent. This individual was not forthcoming with the process and changing information. We would get information from our lender before we would the Richmond agent.

Our experience with Richmond American Homes was one of chaos and confusion. The sales team lack the ability to communicate. Three times the closing dates were moved, but the sales team would not inform us until the before and in once instance we were not informed until the day we were supposed to close and get our keys. We have been in our homes for a month and the punch list items have not been completed from our pre-move-in checklist. Richmond American staff does not inform us with someone is coming over to make repairs; people show up at random time. Overall we had a terrible experience ...

I recently purchased a home from Richmond American Homes (RAH), and while the overall experience had some positive aspects, there were significant issues that need to be addressed. **Quality of Construction**: While the materials used are good, I was disappointed with the craftsmanship. There were noticeable flaws in the finishing touches, indicating a lack of attention to detail. Additionally, throughout the construction process, the workers left the property extremely dirty and even buried trash in the yard, which was unprofessional and frustrating to deal with. **Design and Layout**: ...

Buying experience was interesting to say the least. Very intrusive with the Mortgage process… However, what was more shocking was the builder and the Superintendent’s attention to detail and lack of follow up on my needs. I was not made to feel like I was number 1 so why would I make you feel like you are number 1? Poor service and lack of communication. This is who you have representing your homes? Wow. All concerns could have been easily remedied with proper follow up and proper communication. Never received a 30 day walk. Still trying to reach them…

We were rushed to close and did first walk through. Numerous issues pointed out and marked. A week later for follow up walk through nearly nothing was fixed. They rushed that day to fix a couple things and said they would get the rest taken care of. Stupid me I trusted them. Now every little thing needs to be scheduled where you waste your time in 4 hour blocks. I've reached out via the website, phone calls and texts with no response! I was looking at Lennar and DR Horton homes also and wish I would of went that route. I'll never buy a Richmond home again and will never recommend them. I tell ...

It was not a pleasant experience as the home we wanted was told it was sold while in actuality it was not. The home we purchased has issues that are not being resolved. Poor quality of paint resulting in painting with superior paint prior to moving in. Garages are all too small to accommodate larger pickups. And the real clincher was looking in the attic above garage are ceiling joists with incorrect bevel cuts still used offering little ceiling support. Obviously inspectors don’t do their job.

This is my 4th new construction, all with different builders and the quality of the workmanship has been the worst so far. After a month none of the “within 30 day” repairs have been completed. Several rusty nails have been found in the front and back yards. The yard has many low spots in excess of 6”. The sod along the back fence was dead, promised to be fixed and never was. I replaced it myself. Floor boards were replaced once and require continue work due to the replacement damaging adjacent boards. Several area of trim work still need to be fixed. First off, the house itself is very nice. The floor plan is awesome, the materials aren’t bad. It’s a very welcoming home. However, 1 month later. The screen door has popped off, the locks wouldn’t lock from the beginning, no body has came and fixed it. Our garage door opens our neighbors and our front door handle is coming lose. The home buying was incredibly frustrating. The loan process took way too long. Our loan officer Deacon kept us updated as much and as well as he could. I love the beautiful house that was built. The workers made sure to build the house with great care. However, there are portions of the house that are different than what was discussed with me by the sales representative. In fact, there are quite a few surprises that have come up that were not communicated to me by the sales department. Three weeks before closing I was blindsided by what I was told was a "decision the builder made". I've tried calling to get clarity several times but I was told the Sales Manager and the original sales representative, Rena, would return my calls so ...

I’m keeping this review short and sweet. DO NOT buy from Richmond American. The people I worked with, sales and construction, are outstanding and continue to be so. They are just being asked to do too much, too fast and the results show it. Lots of little/moderate problems that were indicative of this. Not real pleased with that, not much else to say. I chose to buy, so it is my fault. I like the house ( once the issues are straightened out)and the neighborhood. Why you cannot select any options is stupid and why you get this review. No pull out drawers in the bathrooms…really? Worst builder I have ever seen. Door trims are not even, patched poorly, and missing caulks. There was a delay in getting into our home. Two weeks to finish up. They should have taken another two weeks. At final walk through - punch list items would be taken care of asap. We waited over 4 weeks for even the first things to be addressed. We love the area and we think structurally the house is built well but the quality of the finishing (paint, doors, grout, etc.) has been really disappointing. The initial 4 weeks of hardly any communication was frustrating.

Bought in April 2024, It was great at first, I loved how fast everyone answered and responded. After it closed, suddenly no one responds anymore (see below). Completely shattered my trust in this company. We reported an issue with our showers (not heating up properly), were advised we would get a call back within 24 hours, and weeks later we haven't received any sort of further communication from Richmond. The quality and workmanship was terrible when I closed so to get it fixed, we had to contact customer service, Jennifer, for every issue that needed fixing especially the one’s that weren’t fixed by the final walkthrough. Every time I call customer service, up until now, she does not respond for weeks and only responds when she’s forced to. She’ll say I’m not talking to her properly. Well guess what? Unfortunately, our experience with Richmond American Homes was not a pleasant one. Poor communication, very slow to respond to questions and concerns, and was told false information about some of the items we chose. Financing was also not trust worthy. We found equal to better financing with outside financial institutions that didn't charge for items to make up the "discounts" Richmond American offered. We just can't recommend Richmond American because of our experience.
