The floorplans offered by Richmond American caught our attention as “empty nesters.” we wanted large gathering areas in the home for hosting groups. We are very pleased with the quality! Everything about the purchase and construction process was handled professionally. We are so happy with this home!

They were a great team! Very responsive and personable.

The people I had a chance to work with, Peter in sales and Abby in Home Design, are what made the experience the best possible. Peter checked in on me and kept encouraging me when I lost my job and the contract. I felt like it was a buddy checking in and not a sales guy hoping to close a sale. I felt that way because that’s what it was. He still texts me and makes sure everything is good. I made a friend. Abby made sure that she knew what our budget was and let us know the best place to go lower and places to just not go lower and the best quality for the price in all areas. She was great at saying wish for want you want in certain areas and delete it later. I’m glad I took her advice about the plugs in the bathrooms. I’m mad I didn’t take her advice about the plug in the closet. She’s right, I did end up putting my home office there… Then, George the PM was great for the walkthroughs and called in warranties on day one when things could not be fixed by the time of the walkthrough. I thought it would be a smoke and mirrors trick and he would have us eventually do the warranty claims. Then the cabinet people called. A week later the carpet people called. True to his word. ... It would be most helpful if the salesman could provide a menu of all available options, along with the price of each option. It was difficult to find out which options were available, and how much they cost. We had to ask questions to discover what should’ve been transparent.

We’re very happy in our new home and are pleased with the work put in to it. This was our first time building a home so we were learning along the way. Our biggest struggle was in the beginning. Our sales agent did not cash our check for the lot we wanted and was difficult to get answers from in a timely manor. About a week later, she responded by saying another couple had purchased that lot. We don’t understand how she wouldn’t have known that before we gave her a check for more then $20,000. We tried on another lot she advertised and wrote a new check. She came back to us later saying that lot was actually not up for sell yet so we had to find another lot… finally we landed on the one we own. I want to make it clear that they were apologetic and did not attempt to take advantage of the first checks we gave them. They were fair with our money. But it was very stressful not obtaining the lots we wanted, while also worrying about why checks weren’t being cashed. Once the house went under construction, we worked more directly with the builder and that was an overall better experience for us. There a few things in the home that aren’t perfect (squareness of drywall in some areas, etc) but for the most part the builder was willing to make the fixes we asked for before closing. ... More

We are happy in our home now but the buying experience felt unhonest, we requested a home and radon inspection before closing and felt as we got excuses to avoid getting the inspection done that if any issues arises they would be covered after closing was completed, it’s been over a month and we haven’t received a call or text or any type of follow up for things that need to get fixed in the home after closing. Inspections was completed after closing and it felt as after. Losing all communication stopped in regards to getting our issues fixed we got the run around that we have to go through the warranty link and not them directly as well as radon levels were 38 in this home. ... Great value, Wendy and Braxton were great. The paint/drywall/trim contractors did a poor job.

So many things didn’t get done before house as sold. Now we have to be home in order to get repairs done that should have happened before we moved in. Sub contractors trying to get away with mistakes and covering them up, and Richmond is not holding them accountable until after we complain about it. Then we have to take time off of work to be home so they can come back and fix it correctly. Mike treated us like we were idiots and refused to listen to us, even though time and time again we were proven correct. I haven’t met a neighbor yet that is happy with Mike or the process, and we have met about half of the new buyers. Just about every complaint was met with I don’t see anything wrong with that. But when we asked him if he would accept that in his own house, he would say no. Always trying to get away with the least possible workmanship. ... More

everyone was friendly and personable, however the building process was rough. There was poor craftmanship that we had issues with, and the issues were slow to be resolved before closing and now that we closed nothing has been resolved. Some of the craftmanship is questionable quality especially for the price being charged. things like gas leaks, broken doors, dryer vent being installed smashed to the point that it is not possible to hook a dryer up to it. missing lights, gas line being cut too short and instead of cutting a new pipe they just glued on a bunch of couplings to make the short pipe longer, and many more. note the issues above are things that remain issues after closing and that have not been resolved nor been given a timeline of when/if they will be. Note on the gas leak, called an emergency line and they sent someone out and they said that it looked good. Then as they left they recommended just incase to call the city. Called the city they came out and said yes you for sure have a gas leak and then the city fixed it. ... More

I was promised $10k towards closing costs if I signed by a certain date and if I used the preferred lender another $9k. Fine print of contract said all of nothing. Sales agent made a promise and did not keep it. Still have warranty issues, blue tape items not finished and no front yard landscaping after a month of living in the home with no timeline on when it will be completed.

Overall not a very good experience, I would try my luck with a different builder, they definitely could’ve done better.
