Shea Homes - The buyer must ask questions.
- Tina A.

The buyer must ask questions. Example: Find out if interior paint can be upgraded. More orientation on light switches, waterless tank, and thermostat. Concrete and paint spills on entrance stoop and patio. I'm still waiting for a stovetop and additional water tank remote. This is beyond reps control. He is very responsive. I appreciate his efforts.

It was a mixed feeling experience. Sometimes the customer care was there sometimes it wasn't. We had an issue with closing and it felt like all transparency went out the window. Without that issue it would've been an amazing experience.

Shea Homes - Make sure you keep track of everything otherwise they might try

Make sure you keep track of everything otherwise they might try and switch out things you ordered and then make you feel like that was never an option. Overall the experience was okay. They do provide differential treatment to some buyers that are able to do modifications where others are told no. After moving in everything is great except for the caulking. There are holes in it and door jams not completely caulked. Most things seemed rushed instead of taking the time to make sure it’s right.

Post sale support is not ideal

The post sale representative doesn't do his best job to inspect and verify if the issues have resolved. The manner is subpar and I don't feel respected as a shea home owner.

I have bought more than one Shea homes due to there quality and customer service and decided to buy this one too from Shea homes. Man what a big mistake, the sale person specially Cathy was just a pain. She made us feel so low from day one and more of a pain during closing. I couldn't understand why she makes stories and screams on you to get her point. I am never ever going to buy anymore homes from Shea just for that reason.

Lot of issues Frustration after moving in

Working with Gretchen, our designer, was great and Shannon was good too. However, once we moved in, there were a number of problems found which I doubt any inspections were even done from any of the work that was done. After two months, we still have some major issues including cracked, chipped, missing stones w/ discolored grout and our back wall having water damage already from the neighbors higher up causing some flooding. This should have had a proper seal from our ground up 3 bricks to where the neighbor ground level. We have had other issues but they are too many to list here. Some of ...

To whom it may concern, I am writing an open letter regarding our disappointing experience buying our brand new Shea home in the new community of Côta Vera. We were fortunate enough to be in phase one, and although we knew phase one would come with delays and some issues (we were also phase one in the Escaya community), we never expected to have this many issues. As far as delays, there were way more than expected. We closed on our home at the end of March, and when we signed the purchase agreement we were told the anticipated closing would be towards the end of December. That being said, ...

Disapppointed with the finishes on the house, seems very rough and ready. Since moving in, we’ve seen quite a lot of imperfections that overall just feel like the house was very rushed and little care was put into it.

Shea Home Construction Problems
- Andreas K.

several aspects of the construction as subpar. It seems that a lot of inexperienced sub-contractors used. For example, most doors/frames in my house were not plumbed and leveled properly so they do not close with an even reveal. There is not attention to detail. The subcontractor who installed the kitchen cabinets did a horrible job as the cabinets are not leveled correctly and the crown molding is not even.

Don’t Buy a Shea Home Without Hiring a General Contractor to Oversee Construction

I love the layout of my new home. Some materials are of high quality, however I have had problems with every single trade. I found electrical that was not to code and hazardous when using my own electrician to install ceiling fans. The LVP flooring was very poorly installed with multiple gaps. The painters were horrific and got paint on cabinets, towel bars, flooring, all of the light switches… Many walls did not receive two coats of paint. I hired my own painters to re-paint. Plumbing issues. The list goes on and on. I’ve had way too many issues. Shea has been fairly responsive. I would have ...

Excellent sales team - great to work with. Always promptly got answers to any questions. Building team - average. Seemed to do a good job EXCEPT in a couple of instances - once the wrong product was installed and they resisted correcting it (I had to repeatedly say it must be addressed), once when they installed something in the wrong location that was specified in the contract and they resisted correcting it (I had to point out legal agreement twice before correction made), Post purchase team - horrible. Shea Homes - This was not the greatest home buying experience.

This was not the greatest home buying experience. I've bought 3 previous new builds and have never had the lack of communication and lack of attention to details during the building process and up until final walk through. Shea takes entirely too long to build a home in comparison to Perry, Drees and Highland in this particular area. Once moved in, my warranty representative found a list of things that needed to be addressed and redone on top of the things that were not addressed during the build. The warranty representative is OUTSTANDING!!! She has addressed all details in a timely manner ...

salespeople did not communicate how viewable my yard would be to my neighbor

The inside of the home is very nice, and I'm happy with it; however, and it's a BIG ONE. When I walk to my back yard, my neighbors and I can see 100% of everyone's yard. There is zero privacy. They could have raised the fence or at least told me because had I known, I would not have purchased this condo.

Thus far we are mostly enjoying our new home. However, the punch list and warranty process is terrible. They push you to close on your home but it is only 90% complete. There are many small details that are not complete and the fine details are of poor quality. Floor creaks, paint issues, exterior issues, door issues etc. They try to get things taken care of but just can't seem to get them resolved. They need to at least double if not triple the number of people they have for their construction punch list and warranty issues. We were only allowed in our home on Sunday's to inspect as the ...

Pros 1.The Hyde floor plan in Luxe at Canyons is great and the main reason we bought the house. Cons in order of priority 1. Final Walkthrough and Handover : We are pretty disappointed with this process. Firstly the house lacked a professional deep cleaning and there was still a lot of dust and dirt from construction. Second about 90% issues we found in final walkthrough were not fixed before closing and these were not handed over to the warranty rep. We pretty much had to do this all over again with warranty rep at 1st month and many of these are still not fixed. Finally I am left ...

Three months later still dozens of items not fixed

Shea sales proudly proclaims their commitment to quality since 1800s. But that's where it stops. Three months after closing, dozens of items still aren't fixed, including some requested to be fixed prior to closing during the final walkthrough. Service appointments are often cancelled at the last minute (or just a no-shows). Those that do show up often don't actually fix what they were there to fix (but still close the tickets). Extremely poor workmanship throughout the house - pretty much every single wall and ceiling have dents, bumps, and mismatched/uneven paint. Just some of the bigger, ...

There were children of the laborers at our home site while the home was being built-we have photos of them! We had multiple labor and material concerns ALL ALONG during the build, horrible workmanship, lack of quality, lack of caring. The painters were the worst, we continue to find more and more problems as we live in the house and the light shines on painted surfaces. Our framing wood quality throughout our home is bad, we had to fight so Shea didn't' use particle board pieces (7 on one) on our interior door frames. We sent multiple emails with legitimate concerns, most of which went ...

Shea Homes-Family - Shea limited site visits to only once per month, seemingly to

Shea limited site visits to only once per month, seemingly to avoid us (and others) from pointing out various issues, like missing insulation, or missing options, or incorrect placement of options. They like to blame the trades for these issues, but they don't seem to manage their trades very well, and are more concerned about meeting schedule than delivering quality.

Shea Homes - Made a mistake of buying a model home and paying for all those
- Michael S.

Made a mistake of buying a model home and paying for all those upgrades at high prices. Being a model home, the builder only kept up with the house to make sure the lights and AC were working for other to see. There were so many issues with the house like appliances not work, missing parts, lack of explanation/manuals for the options included in the home price, etc. Getting things reported and being taken care of is another stressful process that no homeowner should go through. The construction team did very little quality assurance of the tradesmen that build our house. As a result we have a laundry list of items that have to be addressed. Shea seems willing to address issues, hoping that it will get done right. The whole process is quite frustrating. If you buy from Shea I would recommend being all over them during the construction process.
