Excellent service and we are happy with our home.

The home itself is good. The 1-3-5-11 check-in plan is a good idea and has been helpful. Tami who helps with the move-in process and the periodic check-up is fantastic as is Eddie (maybe Freddie, sorry) who seems to be one of the lead contractors. They are both amazingly responsive and seem to truly care. Kveta from the design studio was very helpful and kind as well. We never felt rushed. She listened to our wants and needs and helped us to come up with a design that looked great and functionally has been fantastic as well. She allowed us to maximize our upgrade budget and we are very happy. She communicated with us throughout the process. We even had a question after moving in that she helped to answer for us. What was not good was the community representative, Kathy, and unfortunately, she is the one that we had the most contact with. I would not recommend her and wish there had been another representative we could have switched to (if this had been an opportunity, I would have switched after the first or second interaction). She walked us through the community on our initial visit. As someone who is trying to sell me on something and trying to represent a large brand and a community, I would’ve expected her to be somewhat upbeat and pleasant (not over the top, just a little bit, even a smile). She was not. There was no enthusiasm or excitement. If the market wasn’t as crazy as it was at the time, she would not have had a sale through us. I hope that Shea does not rest on the same laurels, that they can do and act however they want because the housing market is competitive. Lack of excitement is not enough of a reason for me to write a negative review about a person or company and as you will read, this was the least negative thing about the experience. She was very unresponsive regardless of the request, but if she sent something to us, expected a return e-mail within the day. For example, I had to e-mail her multiple times the month prior to moving in. I wanted to get the information for the utilities I would need to setup, I wanted to know when I should start doing all of that as well. I never got a response even after multiple e-mails. She eventually e-mailed my wife separately and mentioned that we would get that information closer to the move-in date and not to set anything up for the time being. She could have sent that simple e-mail to me after the first time. Instead, I now have the impression that she either doesn’t care, doesn’t know, or doesn’t care enough to find out the answer for me. When the roles were reversed and she would e-mail us with requests we always attempted to respond ASAP and send her whatever she requested. I truly believe that in nearly every case we responded to her with what she needed within the same business day. If we didn’t have what she needed, we explained how and when we would get it for her. The one time we did not respond to her within 24 hours regarding a question that was actually directed at our financial institution, she sent a follow-up e-mail with our loan officer attached saying that the failure to respond had meant that we were in default or about to be placed immediately into default. This was less than 48 hours after the first e-mail. While I understand there was information she needed to get from us, and mind you this was one or two months prior to move-in not our initial loan info/pre-approval or anything like that, threatening us with default after not immediately responding to one e-mail is absolutely inappropriate and unprofessional. We had made all of our payments/deposits on the first day it was available to do so. A little bit of good faith would’ve been appreciated before jumping the gun and going to such drastic measures. One of my largest concerns was when there was actually a potentially emergent situation at the home prior to move-in. We had a small leak in our house literally the week before moving in. The leak was noted on a Wednesday or Thursday, we were not notified until Saturday (mind you our move-in date was the following Friday). Why we were not notified immediately is still beyond me and I still never received a satisfactory answer. When we were contacted by Kathy she was exceptionally brief on the phone. She gave little to no details and told us to meet her at the house the following day. We were left with the impression that our entire home was flooded and we'd have a delayed move in date. We were told we should contact our apartment complex ASAP to try and revoke our written move out date and to try to extend our lease. Fortunately, when we did arrive to the home, the leak was relatively small and had nearly been resolved at that point. There was a good plan in place from the construction crew in terms of identifying the leak, checking adjacent piping, drying drywall, and checking additional moisture levels. The crew had been actively working on the problem since its onset. Had Kathy, spoken with any of them, I feel that she could have communicated that information over the phone and at least taken some of our worry away. Instead, she left us confused, scared, and unsure of what to do. After talking with fellow neighbors, we understand that at least two other homes in our motorcourt also suffered leaks prior to move-in. The way Kathy interacted with them was, from what I am told, was exactly the same and some of them had significantly worse leaks. Honestly, if there were only very limited interactions with Kathy, I would not have written this review. However, as she is the community representative and main point of contact throughout the whole process I felt this information to be pertinent. I like my home and community thus far, it’s just too bad that Kathy put such a damper on the whole process. As of now, I would buy from Shea again. But, if Kathy were the only community representative where I was looking, that would cause me to pass solely because of her involvement. ... More

Follow up warranty work is poor. No consistency in what is shown in models and what is actually done. EVERYONE here is unhappy with their home and all they do is complain to each other about Shea.

Recently I took delivery of a new home build by Shea. The design fit my needs and the home is nicely laid out. After some annoying delays with the city power, I tool delivery in the fall of 2022. On the whole the home turned out well, but there were areas of quality control that got missed or were ignored. I encountered some poor stain work and finishing on the cabinets, damage to appliances, interior and exterior paint and finishing issues and some electrical issues. The repair service is coming along and some items, I feel, will be pushed to the side. The sales and construction staff have been friendly and fantastic, but the care in the workmanship is less than stellar. ... More

Shea homes buying experience was an easy process and any issues that I uncovered after I moved in was addressed in a timely manner.

While I can’t compare to another home I’ve built because this was our first new build we are happy with the home Shea built us. The process itself was a little more difficult because we bought during Covid. We had to make design center selections in one day so it was rushed. The other thing that sucked was b/c Covid slowed things down our models weren’t open when we purchased so we didn’t get to see some design center options they ended up installing in the models which probably would have changed our choices on some things. We’re happy with our purchase but I don’t know if I’d build a new home again as it’s a daunting process end to end. Parts were fun and obviously new is nice but it’s not for the inpatient. ... More

Buying time and experience was good and no complain. But after movement there are no help / services on timely provided. Infact, we have an Emergency / life threatening situation but still trying to get it resolve. From Home service, no one is taking the raised complaint seriously and no/slow response.

I was out of my element, having never bought a home by myself. It was an orderly transition, with help available when needed.

There are many minor problems with the quality of the house, and the after-sales maintenance service is very slow,

Shea made the home buying and building experience easy. We looked at several builders and none compared to the quality of Shea.

Shea is a very organized production builder. We were very pleased throughout the sales and building process. They have excellent follow up through their warranty program as well.

We purchased a new build Mosaic model at the beginning of the pandemic, sadly what we purchased has not come close to meeting our expectations. We rented in the community during the build process and we were able to catch many issues. Once we moved in, it’s been an on-going punch list of repairs due to poor craftsmanship. Not one cupboard or drawer works correctly, light fixtures are off center and now a broken primary condensation pipe has lead to opening up our living room wall to dry out the insulation and sheet rock. Our Shea customer service person has been great, but scheduled trades don’t show up to fix the repairs or if they do show up they’re not fully briefed or prepared to fix the problem. We closed the beginning of November and we are no where near getting everything fixed. ... More

My entire experience from beginning to end pleasurable! Any problems that I had were taken care of quickly! The team that worked with me had were very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I would highly recommend Shea homes!!

Staff nice but work repairs very slow. Cost way too much

The best thing Shea has done is hire Kim and Earl. They are the epitome of customer service and are the backbone of Shea homes in Cane Island. Kim is literally an encyclopedia of everything there is to know about Shea and their floorplans. She has the most amazing memory and the brightest smile. Earl has got to be one of the hardest working individuals in this company. After living in the new house for over a month now, I see Earl going around all the homes to be finished as early as 7am all the way past 7pm some nights. He is so good at his job. Always follows up with whatever I may have asked him. Always treats me and my family with kindness and professionalism. I initially went to Coventry (the other builder of the section) to shop their homes and tried to tour their models/builds. Tina, their salesperson, hates working past 6pm and complained outwardly to me on two separate occasions. I am self employed working 7 days a week till 5:30 every day. My 25 minute commute gives me 5 minutes to view homes and talk options? God forbid I have to keep her an extra 15 minutes past her work hours all while she potentially could have made some good money if I bought Coventry. Well I didn't. I suppose the housing market was so strong, she wouldn't care if I bought one of their houses or not. That's okay, because the next day, I walked in to Shea's model home and met Kim for the first time. She was more than happy to stay late to discuss their homes. Don't get me wrong, Shea has beautiful homes, but Kim was a huge reason we went with Shea. Our last home was a Lennar build and that was a disaster I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to endure. Three items: 1. Our experience to date with SheaConnect has not been pleasant. The WiFi shut down, taking the applications, plus our printer and the WiFi functions on my cell phone with it. 2. We can not add a security front door to our home because there is a beam on the ceiling that prevents a door from opening outward. I consider this a design flaw. 3. There is no electrical outlet on or in the area of the front porch. The steps are shaded and we need electric pads to melt snow and ice on the steps. Another flaw not obvious until winter arrives.

Easy people to deal with and take the time to listen. Great value and experience for a dream home.

Made it easy to buy took a bit long to built but its ok

First, I have bought 5 new homes, I will say that we love this home in general, but our beginning has been rough. Deanna was a great person to work with on the front end. House wasn't delivered clean, some things out of Shea control... type of insulation, garage door opener downgrade, dented fridge, no washer/dryer (have loaners). Busted kitchen cabinet, broken tiles all through kidtcen, also in master shower. Flooring issues, window blind too small, many little touch things that should have been done prior to delivery. Then to top it off, broken cable line, so we had zero internet/tv for first two weeks. The good news is that our long punch list is being worked on now, Adam has been an amazing help and overall the staff is very supportive. Biggest disappointment would have to be the tile issues, but other than that, it will eventually be a wonderful home! ... More

We had a fantastic experience purchasing our home through Shea Homes. The process from putting down a deposit to moving in is so streamlined and easy to understand. The Shea Homes team members are very professional and quick to respond to questions or concerns. In the current real estate market, purchasing a home can be a very stressful and daunting process. Buying through Shea Homes took all the stress off of bidding wars, losing offers, and all the other issues in buying a pre-existing home. The best part is that we did not have to endure living through a remodel. Most of the homes in our area are very old and out-of-date. Having an updated new home on the Monterey Peninsula is a rare find. I would not hesitate to buy through Shea Homes! ... More

Being at the beginning of a new community build has alot of kinks to work out. Fortunately, BreAnn and my Project Manager Will, along with my Warrantee person, Gus have been easy to work with and responsive. Along with many supply shortages, there have been significant shortages in Skilled labor which has caused delay and less than desirable end results with certain trades. Will and Breann and GUS (he's a GEM) have worked hard to remedy various issues.

Tina, Travis, Cody, Weston, James, Brooke, Julie and Marci were professional, nice, knowledgeable and very responsive. I have not one complaint. My home is beautiful and actually even better than I imagined. The floor plan is innovative and functions well. The build is sound and the choice of finishes made it difficult to stay on a budget which is very typical for me to struggle to stay within budget. The standard/included features are a cut above what other builders offer. The Canyons is an amazing community and I feel grateful to be able to live in such a great place.
