We love the community. Throughout the building process the communication could have been improved. As an example, we were given a closing date and then two days before the close were told it was not going to happen. Despite the fact that the Shea representative knew we were in a rental and had given notice. One issue that may contribute to communication issues is the staff turnover seems very high. Additionally while some of the subcontractors did stellar work others are not as diligent. At the end we are happy with our home despite some repair issues that are under way

Everything went so smoothly.....from selecting the lot to completion of the home and loan! I love it here!

Overall decent for the price but 2 major issues. - The walls thickness are probably at minimum allowed by the state law, according to another Builder that I have asked. Apparently some builders are trying to save money on materials so they cut back on building homes the proper way. The sound travels easily through the Walls, I mean literally any sound. I could be in the master bedroom brushing my teeth and someone in the kitchen can hear my electric toothbrush!!I can even hear my Neighbors talking at night from inside their house. No, they’re not being loud typical conversation, cuz I can literally tell. - They claim their homes are energy efficient and windows are sealed pretty tight. Definitely neither are true. Yes they have led lights for all their light bulbs, but that’s about it. If I can smell my neighbors bbq with my windows and doors closed that’s not air tight nor energy efficient. ... More

The Shea team was great. I felt the communicated throughout the process and I always knew what was happening with the construction of my home. Everyone was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. it was an easy, stress-free and enjoyable experience. Love the quality and workmanship of my home.

This is our second Shea home. We have built custom homes for ourselves in the past, but nothing beats the quality and workmanship of a Shea home. I also really appreciate how fast all the superintendents have responded to questions and concerns. They were simply great! Shea is the best!

The initial home-buying process went smoothly, although it took the company a long time to finish building my home. Now that I'm in it, I see issues with some of the workmanship, mostly with what appears to have been touch-up work to finish the job. Some of the painting, cabinetry, and other installations were done very sloppily, as if the workers rushed to finish and get out of here. Dealing with these and other issues with Shea's Customer Service also hasn't been the best experience. The representative I've been working with to fix problems doesn't communicate well at all, and she gets things wrong or forgets things all the time. When I've pointed them out to her, she's gotten rude, defensive, and even accusatory, as if these problems or misunderstandings are my fault. She just doesn't seem to care about my convenience or overall satisfaction. She makes decisions based on what seems satisfactory to her or what she thinks I should just accept, instead of asking me about what I want, including when repair technicians are scheduled. She doesn't apologize for mistakes and miscommunications, and gets upset if I don't just accept her decisions and treatment, to the point where she won't even respond to me. I don't look forward to having to work with this person for the next few years. ... More

We were huge fans of Shea Homes (repeat buyers), but the quality of workmanship in our new home is extremely disappointing. We were so excited to move into a new Shea home, but have been dealing with frustrating warranty issues since we moved in ten weeks ago (one representative says they will fix it, but the other says they won't), and still are dealing with obvious issues that we assumed would be covered such as dirty carpet from the subs, grout overspray on our brand new tile, an irrigation system which leaks, nicks on our brand new cabinet hardware, cabinet installation issues, shoddy paint quality, and the electric hook-up to the clothes dryer not functioning, resulting in us not having a clothes dryer since we moved in ten weeks ago. Regarding this issue with the dryer, we were informed by our warranty representative that it is not an "emergency" issue so we were put off several weeks. We question how much of an emergency this situation would be considered to be if it were a Shea employee experiencing no clothes dryer for more than two months. We actually purchased a new dryer (and washer) because we assumed our old dryer was the problem, but it turns out to be an electrical issue, so we likely didn't need to invest in new expensive appliances. We would be so pleased to refer Shea to our friends as a reputable builder who stands behind its product, but are frankly very disappointed with the outcome of the purchase of what we hoped would be our dream home. All of our new neighbors share the same frustrations, so please listen to these suggestions. Our advice to Shea is to scrutinize the talent and intent of the subs you hire, so as to ensure that they don't undo each other's work, and can effectively verbally communicate with the customer . You advertise a great product, and your floor plans and lot plans are excellent, but your finish and warranty work needs a lot more attention. We moved in about 2 months ago . The home is up to date with the latest smart products. Couldn’t be happier with that. A big thanks to Octavio the customer service representative and his team. The follow up care is outstanding. He is very responsive to repair request.. Experience with design center was great, sales staff are very friendly. Would highly recommend using Shea Homes.

Good value for the dollar.

Knew what to expect, everything went smoothly, follow through was excellent, really nice and knowledgeable people!

From the time I purchased the home to the time I moved in, every time I wanted to see the progress of the build, Alan found a few minutes to walk me through the house, and explained what was going on and what the time table was. He was busy and did not have to be so kind.

Shea Finance was terrible we ended up not using them and had to pull money from savings to pay cash for house. Never recommend anyone to deal with Shea on the financial side.

the seller is good

This Trilogy division was built for 55 age and over owners who desire a simple down sized home with minimal problems. There seemed to be a disconnect between the on-site contractor (Construction Supv) promises and the follow up person handling identified owner tasks still needing to be fixed. It seems that, neighbors and I, feel the need to get down and nasty for anything positive to happen. IE; The top surface of covered porch was 12" (step) above the ground surface which caused me to fall during construction walk-thru. The contractor (Supervisor) measured the step and told us that a concrete step all across the front would be provided before we took posession. During the final walk-thru there was no promised step as dirt had been pushed up against the front of the raised porch reducing the drop in elevation from 1 foot to 7.5 to 8" step down and we're told that was within code. Does it seem reasonable that two 77 year old owners living in a 55 and over development would have to negotiate an 8" step daily to get to their back yard not to mention the builders commitment for a step to be added? Also, it should be noted that owners were not allowed on-site after hours or not and on weekends. We could not follow up on what was happening verses was not. Here is another example of problems being ignored. Putty work around outside vents, front door bell, and other sealing applications needed reworking. Instead of running caulk smoothly across a seam, it was applied in small bulges all along areas needing to be sealed. It looked like it was applied by someone very inexperianced or who did not care enough to do the job correctly. The answer we were given was "That is the way it was done on all the houses"(?). Is that an acceptable answer? I could go on and on but I think We have made our point. Last, when we were at our site before anything was finalized, the sales person told us that he could not decide whether our lot was a view lot or not. There were no houses as yet built around our lot and we did have a beautiful view of Mt Rainier in all its' majesty. A few days later we were notified that it was indeed a view lot so the price of the lot went from $5000 to $10,000. When all the houses around us were later added and competed we could not see Rainier even from the street. When I inquired I was given the message from sales, "He is crazy if he thinks we will give any money back." So the issue of whether the home was in fact a view lot, or not, was mute because by law I had already signed and was stuck with the misleading criteria for the cost of the lot included in the agreement. A poor example of what Shea considers fair and above board dealings with their customers. The only other issue was that the top soil was removed from the lots during construction and not put back. The remaining soil is gravel and rock. You cannot penatrate the remaining soil with a shovel. You need a pickax and luck to find an area between the rocks for your pickax or shovel to penatrate more than an inch. ... More
